Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm showing of “Sweet Bean” (PG), a Japanese film with sub titles directed by Naomi Kawase.
A struggling street vendor needs to pay rent on his stall and trade is bad. He makes little pancakes with a sweet bean paste but he knows his paste is not as good as it should be. Help to turn his business around comes from an unexpected source and that is where our tale starts.
This is a beautifully made film, no excessive dialogues, so time to hear city life, the rustling of the trees, nature and the seasons and three lonely people coming together for mutual benefit.
A wonderful book. A wonderful film.
