Captain Tom Moore’s 100th birthday on Thursday
He’s already received over a quarter of a million birthday cards 2 days before his birthday. All mail sent this week by Royal Mail will carry a commemorative postmark reading: ‘Happy 100th Birthday Captain Thomas Moore NHS fundraising hero 30th April 2020.’. The RAF will do a Spitfire flypast on Thursday. He’s achieved No. 1 in the UK’s singles charts collaborating with Michael Ball in a rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone“, becoming the oldest artist to achieve that position. He opened one of the new NHS Nightingale hospitals via video-link in Harrowgate.
Broadwindsor will publicly acknowledge and send our best British birthday wishes to Captain Tom, initially at the 1 o’clock Sound of Music Through The Square Window slot by singing Happy Birthday following the day’s song (which will also be dedicated to Captain Tom) and then in the evening, at his own request, a 2 minute silence at 19.58 hrs. for those who have lost their lives to the Covid-19 virus.
At 20.00 hrs. we do what has now become our weekly ritual to show our thanks to the NHS and all the keyworkers, the clapping outside our door.
Finally, following that, at approximately 20.05 hrs. we sing at the top of our voices Happy Birthday. Happy Birthday Captain Tom.
Very short notice. . .

It’s one calendar month since . . .
The Sound of Music Through The Square Window began on 26th March. Villagers, Shane Pym & Simon Emmerson prepared a snippet of what goes on for BBC Spotlight TV but sadly it didn’t make the cut as hoped. It’s two minutes and twenty three seconds long, so it is unlikely they would have showed the whole piece anyway! Margery Hookings is sharing it on her Maddie Grigg YouTube channel.
But YOU can view ALL 2mins 23secs of it now 🙂

See you at one o’ clock tomorrow!
A bit about Wasps . . .
Almost everyone loves the bees and despises the wasps but do you really know as much about wasps?

Countryfile.com offer an informative Guide to Wasps which looks at common wasp species found in the UK, their lifecycle and why wasps tend to sting in autumn.
Are you worried about wasp stings?
Have you found a wasps’ nest?

Sadly, contrary to an earlier post, Broadwindsor’s Sound of Music Through The Square Window didn’t make the cut for the news on Friday evening as hoped. So, we’re continuing the hope that it may be included sometime next week. You can be sure if it is – you’ll be told 🙂
