Neighbourhood Policing – Tuesday, 9th August

Social media increasingly reports on antisocial behaviour and rural crimeWhat can we do?
  • 1. Don’t ignore it, it won’t go away.
  • 2. Make an immediate note of what you have seen, especially anything which could make people or vehicles identifiable. Most people have cameras in their pockets now, take photos if you’re safe to do so.
  • 3. If there is a crime in progress, contact the police immediately.
  • 4. Make Dorset Police aware of concerns and issues. An ideal opportunity is at the Neighbourhood Policing Team sessions. Turn up, tell them, ask what they can do.
  • 5. The next session covering our area is at Broadwindsor Comrades Hall: Tuesday, 9th August 2022 at 11:00 am – 11:30 am.
What do you think their priorities should be? Complete their survey HERE.

40°C Expected – Post Office Open Today – Closed Friday

The Post Office will be open this morning (Tuesday) until 12 noon at the Comrades Hall. It will be closed on Friday, 22nd as post master, Peter has contracted Covid.  We very much appreciate the services they provide and wish Peter a speedy recovery.

Until this week, the highest temperature in the UK recorded was 38.7°C, in Cambridge in July 2019.

A high of 38.1°C was recorded in Suffolk yesterday.  The U.K. is bracing itself for higher temperatures today.  To keep cool and avoid heat exhaustion and/or heatstroke, please read the following advice:

  • Drink water.
  • Eat foods with a high water content
  • Wear loose clothing, breathable fabrics
  • Wear a hat
  • Stay in the shade where possible.
  • Limit your travel & exercise
  • Use fans, ice packs to cool down.
  • Take lukewarm, not cold showers.
  • Put nightwear in the fridge

The NHS recommends keeping all babies under six months out of direct sunlight, and older infants should be kept out of the sun as much as possible, particularly between 11:00hrs and 15:00hrs.
They should be kept in the shade or under a sunshade if they’re in a buggy or pushchair.

Recycling Bins Now In Situ

The Recycling bins have now been moved from Redlands Yard to the Comrades Hall Car Park.

They’re now at the back of the Hall by the ‘turning area’.

Thank you to Adrian & Dave for walking them down the road 🙂

Village Recycling Update

The recycling bins for tetrapaks and aluminium foil items are moving from Redlands Yard to the Comrades Hall car park.

  • Please take your recycling there from now on.
  • Please don’t put any other items in these bins – it is very unpleasant for volunteers!!

…Talking of which they urgently need more. Recently, two volunteers have left and now there are slots for the upcoming months not covered.

If you are able, please help. It isn’t difficult or time consuming… a trip to Bridport. What it does mean is that this service, which is so important, can remain local.
