Julie AndrewsThe last Sound of Music Through The Square Window will be at 1pm on Sunday 7th June.  The weekend would have been the village’s Fun weekend, so the date does seem appropriate.

Parish Magazine returns in July.

Broadwindsor.orgAfter a two month break, Margery Hookings is aiming to produce our Parish magazine in July.
Deadline for copy is 12th June.

Her comments:  “As groups and organisations have not been meeting in the usual way, there won’t be the usual meeting reports. So I am looking for your stories from the lockdown as groups and individuals, particularly positive things which can be taken forward for the community in the future. Will you be doing things differently? What have you learned from the crisis that you can hang on to? Did you become more creative, in terms of ‘doing’ and also in communicating?

I can probably take some photos that will reproduce well in black and white and I am also looking for a good colour shot for the front cover. Many thanks, Margery.”

NHS Test and Trace – Covid-19

NHS Test and TraceThe new NHS Test and Trace system launched today (Thursday 28th May) across England, and Public Health Dorset is encouraging any residents with symptoms of coronavirus to use this service.

NHS Test and Trace will identify those who have had close contact with people who have tested positive for coronavirus, helping to reduce the spread of the virus and save lives.

Public Health Dorset is reminding residents of what they need to do if they develop coronavirus symptoms:

  1. Isolate: As soon as you develop symptoms – a new, continuous cough OR a high fever OR a loss/change of taste or smell – you should self-isolate. Stay at home for 7 days, and anyone else in your household should stay home for 14 days.
  2. Test: Book a test online at uk/coronavirus or call 119 if you have no internet access. Anyone with symptoms can book a test, now including children under 5.
  3. Results: If your test is positive, you and your household need to complete your period of isolation. If it’s negative, you can all end your isolation.
  4. Share contacts: If your test is positive, the NHS Test and Trace service will contact you by text, email or phone to give you instructions on sharing details of places you’ve been and who you’ve been in close contact with so they can be given advice on what to do.

If you’re identified as a close contact of a positive case:

  1. Alert: You will be contacted by NHS Track and Trace by text, email or phone call, and you’ll be told what you need to do to communicate with the service.
  2. Isolate: You’ll be told to stay at home and self-isolate for 14 days from your last contact with the person who tested positive, even if you currently feel well, to avoid unknowingly spreading the virus. Other members of your household don’t need to self-isolate unless you have symptoms, but they should take extra care with handwashing, social distancing and avoiding contact with you.
  3. Test if needed: If you develop symptoms, other members of your household should self-isolate immediately for 14 days. You should book a test – if it’s positive, you should stay home for 7 days and you will need to follow the process for identifying contacts. If it is negative, you must still complete your 14-day self-isolation period because the virus may not be detectable yet.

Staff from Public Health Dorset are joining NHS Test and Trace’s 25,000-strong contact tracing team which has the capacity to trace contacts of up to 10,000 people who test positive per day.

Last night of Clapping?

Clap for our CarersThe Dutch woman, who lives in South London and the instigator of this weekly public gesture, Annemarie Plas, has said tonight’s show of support for NHS staff and key workers should be the last because of concerns the event has become politicised.

Tonight’s clap will be the 10th weekly event since the UK went into lockdown in March, and it has seen members of the Royal family, the Prime Minister and many celebrities join in.

Message for businesses from Wessex Water

Wessex WaterThe lockdown restrictions in place over the last couple of months has meant several business premises have been forced to close which means water within the building plumbing systems will have been left stagnant.

This can cause the water quality to deteriorate within the plumbing system in a number of ways:
* Warming of water
* Growth of micro-organisms (e.g. bacteria, legionella)
* Increased leaching of metals found in plumbing (could cause discolouration)
* Taste and odour from prolonged contact with some plumbing materials

We would like to bring to your attention the steps that should be taken to remove any stagnant water and renew your water supply before your workforce return to work and use the water.

1. Identify all items that use water within the building (taps, showers, appliances, toilets, urinals, drinks machines, bathrooms, etc) and any water storage (tanks and cisterns). Anything storing water should be emptied and refilled first.
2. Then gently flush all cold-water outlets individually starting with the tap nearest to where the water enters the building and move systematically to the most distant outlet including flushing toilets. Flush until the water is cool to the touch or the same temperature as the water closest to where it enters the building.
3. Minimise the potential of creating aerosols by flushing gently, removing aerators, shower heads and any other tap inserts or attachments. Close toilet seat lids before flushing.
4. If there are any outlets that require servicing or cleaning by an external contractor (e.g. coffee machines, soft drinks machines) switch off the supply to them and do not use until a contractor can visit.
5. Once the cold water has flushed through, repeat the process with the hot water outlets.

If you have a water safety plan for the premises, this should include how to return the building water system to normal following prolonged low/no use. Complex systems involving chemical dosing systems (eg swimming pools and spa pools) please enlist the services of a professional to service the system and return to normal operation.

If you have any specific concerns or queries regarding your water quality, please reply to water.regulations@wessexwater.co.uk

If you have any other enquiries regarding billing or metering, please contact your water retailer who provide your bill.
