An old school friend?

FriendshipFriends are important to us all, even more so in these strange times. A lady named Josephine Downer is trying to contact her old friends from Broadwindsor Primary School.  They are Joy, Christine and Nigel HOLT.  If anyone has any news or information, or indeed if the Holts see this post themselves – please contact Broadwindsor.org and we will  reunite you 🙂

Post Office & Perennials at 10am

Post OfficeThe Post Office Outreach services will be at the Comrades Hall from 10am – 12noon.  Sorry! No teas or coffees will be served and social distancing will be practised.

Happy Beltane

It’s the halfway point between the Spring equinox and Summer solstice. The word ‘Beltane‘ originates from the Celtic god Bel and the Gaelic word ‘teine’, which means fire.  Beltane is a fire festival.
A time to give gratitude and thanks to the fertility of Spring, festivities start on the eve of May 1st with big beautiful bonfires representing life and honouring the sun.  May 1st brings girls with flower crowns, dancing around the maypole – but there will be no such gatherings this year. Beltane is also considered a time when the veil between worlds is thin as with Samhain therefore, a magical and powerful time.
May Day is traditionally held on a Monday but will be put back to Friday 8 May 2020 to coincide with VE Day 75th anniversary celebrations.

Lost a blue ball?

Blue ballThis large blue ball was doing its own thing on the Beaminster road this morning ! It was caught by Margery who put it in our garden before it travelled further.”
It’s waiting for its owner in the front garden of Rock House (by the pinch point, behind the big hedge)!

Happy 100th birthday Colonel Tom Moore!

Bridport Lockdown Community Project

A community project called Bridport Lockdown (www.bridportlockdown.org) are creating a shared collection of images and stories from the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic for Bridport and the surrounding area. Get Involved
The project aim to have a record included in this of the activities of local groups and organisations and the lives of those who are part of them. They would love for you to be involved in this and to share this with your local contacts.

Submit photos – obvious of course but… There is a simple form for sending in photos (and, more importantly, the stories behind them, or a few thoughts on life right now) on their website :https://www.bridportlockdown.org/sendphotos. EVERY photo submitted via the link becomes part of the Covid-19 archive at Dorset History Centre for use by current & future generations as a record of our community in these unique times.

The project has got off to a good start with a steady flow of photos coming and a really positive, enthusiastic response. They have Bridport Town Council, Beaminster Town Council, Dorset Mind, Bridport Coronavirus Community Support and the Dorset History Centre on board as partners and Broadwindsor Parish Council have confirmed they would support the project too.
