Beaminster’s Year 11 students may have their Prom but only if students respond by Wednesday 1st July.
The provisional date is Thursday 27th August 2020 and as before, it will be held at the beautiful Haselbury Mill.
Teachers Mr. & Mrs. Randall at Beaminster School issued a letter to all their Year 11 students via ParentMail yesterday, Friday 26th June.
“The cost for the evening will be reduced, as Haselbury Mill have kindly offered to only charge for food and not the venue. We estimate the cost to be between £22-25.00 per person.
Arrangements will need to be made and menu’s sorted before the end of term. Therefore, could we please ask that at this stage you indicate whether you would be interested in attending, by completing the attached form*.

The Dairy Response Fund 2020 is to provide support to eligible dairy farmers in England who produce cows’ milk. They can apply for a one-off payment. It opened on 19th June for those eligible to apply for up to £10,000 of financial support following the coronavirus outbreak.
To be eligible for support from the fund, farmers in England need to demonstrate that they have suffered a reduction in the average price paid for their milk of 25% or more in April 2020 when compared with February 2020.
Qualifying farmers are entitled to up to £10,000 each to cover 70% of their losses across April and May incurred as a result of a drop in price, following a reduced demand for milk with the closure of restaurants, bars, and cafes in recent months.
This financial support is to help farmers maintain production capacity and sustain their business without impacts on animal welfare.
Farmers will be able to apply for a single payment from the fund, which will be paid out from 6th July. Applications can be submitted directly to the Rural Payments Agency (RPA).

Dorset County Hospital have a ‘My Care Passport‘ system in operation for patients with Autism or a Learning Disability or their carers to show to staff upon any admission.
Being admitted or attending a hospital appointment can be frightening, confusing and stressful. For people with a learning disability or autism these feelings can be magnified.
Going into hospital is also now very different because of the Coronavirus. Face coverings to be worn if you can and follow the guidance around social distancing and hand washing. You do not have to wear a face covering if you can’t put on, wear or remove one because of a physical or mental illness, or impairment or disability, or if putting on, wearing or removing a face covering will cause you severe distress.

An 82-year-old man in a small town in Germany, while working on his garden, stumbled upon a curious crop that looked different from the others. Upon giving it a closer look, he noticed a shiny band embedded and around one of his carrots. His greatest surprise was that this was the man’s lost wedding ring which had been missing for three years.
Three years ago, he & his wife were celebrating their golden wedding anniversary and he noticed his wedding band missing later that day. He couldn’t remember where he’d lost it and despite searching everywhere and over time, he lost hope. His wife comforted him, was full of hope and reassured him it would ‘turn up eventually’. Which indeed it did! The ring had probably slipped off his finger while he was working in the garden that day. It had got buried in the ground until it finally resurfaced by being caught by a sprouting carrot.
Sadly, the man’s wife had died six months earlier – but he has the memory of her closer in retrieving his wedding band. 🙂

Dorset Council have received a planning application to build six stables and a tack room with grooms’ accommodation has been made by Lower Chapel Marsh Farm, Axnoller Lane, Beaminster. The application also includes the removal of an existing mobile home.
Agents say the application is on behalf of The Chedington Court Estate and is part of the ongoing development of the site to provide a world class equestrian centre.
The ground floor of the new building is proposed to have six stables and a tack room, the first floor accommodation having three grooms bedrooms; one with an en-suite shower room, together with a separate bathroom and a guest suite with sitting room.
Trevor Bevins from the Dorset Echo reported:
“Agents say the use of the building is multi-functional, providing space not only for existing horses on the site, but also visiting horses and teams together with their staff, hence the requirement for the grooms accommodation, with the guest suite being provided for the horse owner.
The facility is used by Ellie Guy Eventing and by Chris Burton, a leading Australian eventer who finished third in the world in the 2019 season.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic the New Zealand and Australian eventing teams were due to visit the site and train before the Tokyo Olympics which were due to take place later this year.
There are currently four permanent staff on site and a further two part time. The number of horses on site varies but at any one time there can be up to 30 horses.”
