Yeovil College – New Students

Yeovil CollegeESTART, traditionally known as News Students’ Day, has been set for Friday 10th July 2020.
At this time of year all their new year 11 students are usually welcomed onto site. Traditionally, they would spend time meeting tutors and peers, as well as asking those all important questions such as; how do I enrol, when will I get my timetable, when will I start, what will my learning look like?
Due to Covid-19 and Government guidelines they are not able to hold their traditional ‘New Students Day’, so they are taking to social and digital mechanisms to cascade all that you need to know.
They will be sharing information about:

  • Their blended learning approach for September 2020, ensuring that all students have the time and support to undertake all necessary practical learning.
  • What your learning experience will look like in September.
  • FAQs – have all your questions answered.
  • How to enrol ahead of your September start.
  • How to engage with Yeovil College to gain additional support.
  • Virtual tours and curriculum showcases.
  • Campus tours to re-familiarise yourself with Yeovil College.

If you have any immediate concerns or you would like to talk to someone, please call: 01935 845494 or email enrol@yeovil.ac.uk and there will be someone from the College ready to help you.

The Countryside Code

No Bonfires or BBQsNatural England has updated the Countryside Code.

It now includes ‘don’t have BBQs or fires‘ as well as ‘check what facilities are open‘ and ‘obey social distancing measures‘.
Whether you’re enjoying our countryside as a walker, cyclist or horse rider, please follow the Countryside Code in order to respect others and protect our natural environment…and have a BBQ at home!

The Countryside Code:

Respect other people

  • Consider the local community and other people enjoying the outdoors
  • Park carefully so access to gateways and driveways are clear
  • Leave gates and property as you find them
  • Follow paths but give way to others where it’s narrow

Protect the natural environment

  • Leave no trace of your visit, take all your litter home
  • Don’t have BBQs or fires
  • Keep dogs under effective control*
  • Dog poo – bag it and bin it

Enjoy the outdoors

  • Plan ahead, check what facilities are open, be prepared
  • Follow advice and local signs and obey social distancing measures

* Dogs: A local note –

  • Dogs can disturb farm animals, people and wild life. By law your dog has to have a short lead in the country side.
  • If you’re on a public foot path your dog can have no lead only if he’s under control.
  • If your dog scares or injures a farmer’s animal they are entitled to shoot it if they want.
  • If you’re being chased by the farmer’s animals, let your dog off; don’t protect it.
  • Make sure your dog does not disturb nesting birds.
  • By law and for safety, clear up dog poo because it carries disease.
  • Do NOT hang bags of poo on fences, gates, trees or bushes.  You take it to the nearest bin.
  • Please follow the code and please, keep your dog under control.  Thank you 🙂

Assistance for Dairy Farmers

Photo by Emma HouseThe Dairy Response Fund 2020 is to provide support to eligible dairy farmers in England who produce cows’ milk. They can apply for a one-off payment. It opened on 19th June for those eligible to apply for up to £10,000 of financial support following the coronavirus outbreak.
To be eligible for support from the fund, farmers in England need to demonstrate that they have suffered a reduction in the average price paid for their milk of 25% or more in April 2020 when compared with February 2020.
Qualifying farmers are entitled to up to £10,000 each to cover 70% of their losses across April and May incurred as a result of a drop in price, following a reduced demand for milk with the closure of restaurants, bars, and cafes in recent months.
This financial support is to help farmers maintain production capacity and sustain their business without impacts on animal welfare.
Farmers will be able to apply for a single payment from the fund, which will be paid out from 6th July. Applications can be submitted directly to the Rural Payments Agency (RPA).

The deadline for applications  is 14th August.

Only 4 Days Left to Apply To The Co-op Local Community Fund

Co-op Local Community FundMidnight on Sunday, 28th June is the closing date for the Co-op’s Local Community Fund Project. The link to the application form to apply to be one their causes is below.  If you’re successful, the funding period will begin on 25 October 2020.
Charlotte Herbert is the newly appointed CO-OP Member Pioneer for Bridport and Beaminister. Her role involves connecting and bringing together local community projects and causes.
Every time our members buy a CO-OP branded product or service, 1%of their purchase is donated to local causes in their community. Now more than ever we’re seeing the difference those donations make to the amazing causes, especially those supporting their local communities through the current crisis.
We are looking to support projects our members care about- which will bring people together to cooperate for a fairer world- with the focus on one or more of the following:

– Bring the community together to help those in need, providing access to life’s essentials, such as community spaces, food and bereavement support.

– Support the mental and physical health of others through community wellbeing activities.

– Enable people to develop or share their skills to foster community spirit and build resilient communities for the future.

Your project must either:

  • bring the community together to help those in need, providing access to life’s essentials such as community spaces, food and bereavement support.
  • support the mental and physical health of others through community wellbeing activities.
  • enable people to develop or share their skills to foster community spirit and build resilient communities for the future.

Your project or event must also:

    • take place in the UK or Isle of Man.
    • not have religious or political aims (although you can still apply if you’re a religious organisation).
    • meet the Co-op’s values.
    • take place or will still be running after November 2021.
    • benefit your local community.

To apply you’ll need either:

  • your organisation’s charity, HMRC or equivalent registration number depending on your organisation type.
  • a governing document proving it is not run for private profit, for example a legal document like your organisation’s rules.

You’ll also need:

  • your organisation’s bank details – money from the fund cannot be paid into personal accounts.
  • proof of your organisation’s bank account (a bank statement or paying in slip).
  • a description of your project.
  • 2 contact names, including email addresses.
  • basic details of your organisation and what it does, including approximate annual income.
  • a good quality photo showing your organisation in action – no logos.

Be prepared to answer:

  • How does your organisation help the community?
  • Describe what your project will do for the community
  • Give one sentence that explains what your project will do for the community
  • Give details about how you’ll spend the money
  • How will your project help communities to come together, co-operate and have a positive impact on community wellbeing?

Start your Application HERE. (You may have to login to their Membership page first).

You can login and start your application and it can be saved online so you can go back to where you left off.

If you know of any community organisations or efforts that would be a great recipient of this fund then please let Charlotte know so she can contact them or if you have any questions or if you need any help or support during these difficult times, then please do not hesitate to contact her at charlotte.herbert@coopmembers.co.uk.
