They also feel with current Covid levels in the West Country that wearing face masks whilst entering and moving around the hall would be appreciated by the majority. Thank you.

So! What’s showing next month?

On Sunday, 7th November at 3.30pm they are showing their first film in a foreighn language – this time in Swedish with English subtitles: A Man Called Ove.

Directed by Hannes Holm, starring Rolf Lassgard, Bahar Pars, Filip Berg & Ida Engvoll

A Man Called Ove tells the story of an ageing retiree with strict principles and a short fuse, Ove (Rolf Lassgard) is the quintessential angry old man next door.  Having entirely given up on life, his days are spent in a constant monotony of enforcing housing association rules and visiting his wife Sonja’s gravesite.

But when a boisterous young family moves into the neighbourhood, immediately incurring his wrath, things take an unexpected turn.  Pregnant Parvaneh (Bahar Pars) and her lively children are the complete antithesis of what ill-tempered Ove thinks he needs – and yet, from this inauspicious beginning an unlikely friendship blooms and Ove’s past happiness and heartbreak come to light.

A Man Called Ove is a 2012 novel by Fredrik Backman, a Swedish columnist, blogger and writer. It was published in English in 2013. As a film, it was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film and Best Makeup and Hairstyling categories at the 89th Academy Awards in 2017.

On Friday 19th November at 7.30pm – the movie will be The Father (12)

Directed by Florian Zeller. Starring Anthony Hopkins & Olivia Coleman.

In an Academy Award and BAFTA winning performance, Anthony Hopkins plays the eponymous role of a mischievous and highly independent man who, as he ages, refuses all assistance from his daughter Anne (Olivia Colman).  Yet, such help has become essential following Anne’s decision to move to Paris with her partner.  As Anne’s father tries to make sense of his changing circumstances, he begins to doubt his loved ones, his own mind and even the fabric of his reality.
