Two years after Daphne du Maurier’s gothic novel, the most popular film in the UK in 1940 was ‘Rebecca’, directed by Alfred Hitchcock starring Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine.
Netflix has produced an adaptation, shot last summer and this time starring Armie Hammer,Lily James, and Kristin Scott Thomas. Many locations including Mapperton House, Beaminster are used. Mapperton provides the scene for a garden party on the lawns by the Orangery when the characters wed. Due for release on October 21st, there is a trailer:

Somerset Buses have improved their Y6, Yeovil to Bridport service and it comes into effect next week until further notice.
Travelling to Bridport:
You can now leave Broadwindsor village at 9.42am and at 5.27pm to travel to Bridport. There is only one bus returning from Bridport at 12.50pm from the Hospital or at 12.56pm from West Street (Nationwide) which gets you back into Broadwindsor for 1.29pm and continues onto Crewkerne and Yeovil.
Travelling to Crewkerne and Yeovil:
Alternatively, you can leave Broadwindsor at 1.29pm to travel to Crewkerne (arr. 1.50pm) or Yeovil (arr. 2.15pm).
The return journey departs Yeovil at 4.35pm, Crewkerne at 5.05pm and arrives into Broadwindsor at 5.27pm.
In time for the Bank Holiday weekend, the Knapp Inn in Beaminster is promoting locally brewed Isaac cider by selling a pint for just £3.00! The Knapp Inn will be open at 12 noon until 11pm/midnight. Isaac Cider promote themselves as “Proud descendants of Sir Isaac Newton, our Dorset cider is picked by friends, brewed by family, best drunk with both.” It is run by the Giles Wood and his family: wife Fran and sons, Rollo (25) and Bertie (28).

Beaminster Town Council are seeking someone to fill the position of Part-time Enforcement Officer.
The role involves a significant amount of patrolling within the parish, dealing with enforcement duties relating to dog fouling and other control offences, issuing Fixed Penalty Notices and gathering evidence for formal proceedings as required.
The successful candidate should be able to work flexibly on their own initiative and should have good communication skills when dealing with the public. A working knowledge of the Police & Criminal Evidence Act 1984 or the Regulations of Investigative Powers Act 2000 would be desirable although training will be given.
The post is subject to DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) via the disclosure procedure.

Dorset Police Rural Crime Team would like you to be aware of the following suspicious vehicle to be on the lookout for.
The vehicle in question is a Grey Ford Focus estate with an Irish registration plate. This vehicle has been seen in suspicious circumstances on a farm in the Halstock area over the last few hours, when approached the vehicle left at speed. This vehicle may well visit other areas of the county so please be on the lookout.
If this vehicle or other vehicles are seen acting suspiciously, please gather as much information as possible such as the registration number and descriptions of the driver and any passengers and if it’s safe to do so please do take a photograph, don’t put yourself in danger to do this. Please contact Dorset Police immediately by calling 999 if the vehicle or occupants are seen committing crime.
