Can you give 2 lines of poetry to describe the lockdown?

Poetry required! Our creative lady who brings us the Sound of Music through the Square Window at 1pm each day in lockdown is now seeking contributions from villagers of a mere 2 lines of poetry so she may construct a village lockdown poem.

When the White Lion was closed and the village was without a pub, Margery collaborated with Matt Harvey to give us “The Ode To The White Lion“.  Then in 2012, the “Village Poem”, written for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Your lines don’t have to rhyme – just to give a flavour of what your lockdown in the village is like for you and yours.

Do not have your dog poo on our own doorstep!

Dog Poo bags left on ground @ LewesdonDog Poo bag tied to fence @ LewesdonDog Poo bags tied to fence @ LewesdonLewesdon Hill

Shamefully, these photographs show a shade of green that does NOT fit into the landscape.

Do dog owners/walkers really need a step by step guide on what to do with their dog’s poo?

Well done! These particular dog owners/walkers have responsibly picked up their dog’s poo and even bagged it in a biodegradable bag.  However, then tying it to the fence (Oh! I’ll collect it on the way back!) and leaving it there is not only irresponsible, it is disgusting and extremely disrespectful.
1. Pick it up.
2. Bag it.
3. Bin it!

So many complaints being made that the Parish Council issued an urgent notice last month.

You can report dog fouling directly to the department at Dorset County Council online HEREA dog warden may then contact you and/or visit the area to assess how severe the problem is and take the appropriate action to deal with the problem.

It is very sad that, after over six weeks in lockdown, it is obviously local people allowing their selfishness and disregard for our beautiful surrounding area and other people’s health having their dog(s) poo on our doorstep!

Happy Beltane

It’s the halfway point between the Spring equinox and Summer solstice. The word ‘Beltane‘ originates from the Celtic god Bel and the Gaelic word ‘teine’, which means fire.  Beltane is a fire festival.
A time to give gratitude and thanks to the fertility of Spring, festivities start on the eve of May 1st with big beautiful bonfires representing life and honouring the sun.  May 1st brings girls with flower crowns, dancing around the maypole – but there will be no such gatherings this year. Beltane is also considered a time when the veil between worlds is thin as with Samhain therefore, a magical and powerful time.
May Day is traditionally held on a Monday but will be put back to Friday 8 May 2020 to coincide with VE Day 75th anniversary celebrations.

Bridport Lockdown Community Project

A community project called Bridport Lockdown (www.bridportlockdown.org) are creating a shared collection of images and stories from the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic for Bridport and the surrounding area. Get Involved
The project aim to have a record included in this of the activities of local groups and organisations and the lives of those who are part of them. They would love for you to be involved in this and to share this with your local contacts.

Submit photos – obvious of course but… There is a simple form for sending in photos (and, more importantly, the stories behind them, or a few thoughts on life right now) on their website :https://www.bridportlockdown.org/sendphotos. EVERY photo submitted via the link becomes part of the Covid-19 archive at Dorset History Centre for use by current & future generations as a record of our community in these unique times.

The project has got off to a good start with a steady flow of photos coming and a really positive, enthusiastic response. They have Bridport Town Council, Beaminster Town Council, Dorset Mind, Bridport Coronavirus Community Support and the Dorset History Centre on board as partners and Broadwindsor Parish Council have confirmed they would support the project too.
