Buy Your Handmade Facemasks Locally

Handmade By LeoniWearing a face covering will become mandatory in all shops and supermarkets in England from 24 July 2020.  Shop workers, however are excluded.
Those who fail to wear a mask will face a fine of up to £100. This will be reduced to £50 if people pay within 14 days. The rules will be enforced by the police and not the shop workers.
There are several people who live in the village making face coverings at home, some as a business and others with their proceeds, or a percentage of, going to a charitable organisation.

  • There is Leoni Rawle at Redlands Lane, who is offering a wide range of 100% cotton fabrics with over 70 different designs to choose from. The photograph shows Toni Rodway from The Painted Nail wearing one of Leoni’s facemasks (with sausage dogs on it!).

There is also a small metal strip to fit the contour of the face for a more comfortable fit and prevents glasses from steaming up.

They are £5 each with a discount for orders of 10 or more.

Summer Family Fun from Beaminster Team Churches

Beaminster Team Churches - Holiday FunAs an alternative to their usual summer activities which cannot proceed due to social distancing,  Beaminster Team churches are putting together activity packs for families to help ease some of the summer holiday boredom. Each pack contains suggestions and resources for crafts, science experiments, art projects and activities themed around four bible stories. There will be accompanying videos on their website.

Most activities are achievable by children on their own if they can read the instructions. Younger children might require more support and some activities are for the whole family to enjoy. There is a weekly challenge to complete and send in a photo to win a prize.

Free resource packs will be available from 27th July. You need to register to receive one of these. Please complete the form HERE.

They are also putting some suggestions in the pack for the family to pray together and talk about God together. If you are interested in growing faith at home do look at the links below which they believe might give you some suggestions. They are also happy to help support you.

The BIG Butterfly Count 17th July – 9th August 2020

BIG Butterfly Count on iPhoneToday, July 17th, sees the start of the Butterfly Conservation’s BIG Butterfly Count.

The BIG Butterfly Count is a UK-wide survey aimed at helping to assess the health of our environment simply by counting the amount and type of butterflies (and some day-flying moths) we see. It was launched in 2010 and has rapidly become the world’s biggest survey of butterflies.

They are asking that between Friday 17 July and Sunday 9 August, you choose a place to spot butterflies and moths. Each day, watch for just 15 minutes.
Using the free ID chart – identify and record the butterflies you spot.

It’s very easy for you to take part:

Butterfly ID chartYou can download their FREE ID Chart HERE
(You will have to give your name and email address which you’ll then need to sign in with when you submit your counts).
You then add your counts on their website or using the app.

Communion This Sunday

Rev. Jo - Pioneer PriestA message from Rev. Jo 🙂
“There will be a communion service at Broadwindsor Church this Sunday, 19 July, at the unusual time of 9.30am. Do please join us if you would like.
The church is socially distanced, with strict hygiene protocols in place. You will be asked to sanitise your hands on entry and exit, we will keep contact details for track and trace and the doors will be open to promote good air flow. So dress for a chilly church, even in July.
We would love to see you for worship at 9.30am.
Many thanks  Jo”

Rail to Refuge for those Fleeing Domestic Abuse

Rail To RefugeIn April, Broadwindsor.org posted that since Lockdown, calls re: domestic abuse had increased by 50%.  There has been a huge increase in demand for Women’s Aid services and in March the Rail Delivery Group were quick to respond to women’s needs and launched a temporary, nationwide scheme, ‘Rail to Refuge’.
Women escaping domestic abuse are usually advised to seek refuge services far away from their perpetrator. However, for many women, raising the cash to pay for a train ticket can be very difficult. This is especially true for women experiencing economic abuse, who may have no access to cash.

It’s certainly worth mentioning:
“Covid-19 does not cause domestic abuse, only abusers are responsible for their actions.”

How does the scheme work?

  1. A survivor reaches out for support to Women’s Aid*.
  2. Once a refuge vacancy has been confirmed, the survivor will be informed.
  3. Now that the survivor has a confirmed refuge space, the refuge can book a ticket for the survivor so they can travel for free.
  4. After booking the ticket, the refuge can send the ticket and collection details to the survivor via a mobile phone. The survivor can then pick the ticket up from the station using any debit or credit card; they can travel like normal, on a normal ticket, without having to declare the ticket was free or that they are fleeing from domestic abuse.
  5. After Lockdown, Rail to Refuge will continue on Southeastern and Great Western Rail networks.

    *Their LIVE CHAT operates:
    Monday to Friday 10:00am – 4:00pm,
    Saturday and Sunday 10:00am-12:00pm

or you can email them on: helpline@womensaid.org.uk. (They say they will respond to your email within 5 working days).

Domestic abuse isn’t always physical, but it is always abuse and just as high risk as physical violence. To read more on what constitutes Domestic Abuse – Click HERE.
