In May 2021, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) partnered with Google to provide 9,000 jobseekers across the UK with scholarships to gain a Google Career Certificate.

They are free, flexible online training programmes designed to teach job-ready skills in high-growth, high-demand careers such as IT support, project management, data analytics, and UX design. The courses do not require relevant experience or a degree and are recognised by industry experts and employers, including Google.

The courses which are now live to applicants include:

To help spearhead efforts to get people into work, the DWP hired an additional 13,500 new Work Coaches. Google career certifications are paid and delivered by Coursera.

Is it worth it?

42% said earning their Google IT Support Professional Certification helped them make more money.
37% said earning their Google IT Support Professional Certification helped them get a job.
82% of Google certification holders reported a positive career outcome within six months.
94% said they would recommend a family member or friend earn their Google IT Support Professional Certification.
