Broadwindsor’s Fun Day – This Saturday, 14th August

It all starts at 10am…

There are over two dozen vehicles of Classic, Vintage and Sport nature arriving in the village on Saturday morning. They will be parked at the Comrades Hall Car Park & at nearby properties from 10am and departing at 12.30pm. Stewards will be assisting with traffic control and apologies are made in advance for any inconvenience caused.

Meanwhile In Bernards’ Place at 10am –

The swings will be out of action but there will be a range of different activities for all ages of children provided by 1st Broadwindsor Guides until 4pm:

10am – 12noon: Construction.
12noon – 2pm: Craft For All.
2pm – 4pm: Tin Can Cooking

All their activities are free but donations to them are most welcome.

10am – 2pm: Baboo Gelato will be serving their delicious ice cream and sorbet. All crafted from local, seasonal and high quality ingredients. Visit their website HERE.

Also starting at 10am, the village’s Women’s Institute*, led by Dee Gray, will be offering their marvellous service of teas, coffees and cakes throughout the day until 3pm from the servery in the Comrades Hall with seating available inside and outside.

From 1pm – 3pm, Strawberry Jam will provide entertainment for the younger residents of our village 🙂 Follow Holly on her Facebook page HERE.

Inside the Comrades Hall, many stalls with local Artist’s & Crafter’s work on display and able for you to purchase. They will be there from 2pm – 6pm. Please support them with your custom.

Outside in Bernards’ Place:

Potwell Plants and more stalls at the entrance to the Comrades Hall.
The Three churches are operating a Tombola stall.
There will be BAR facilities available from 2pm – 9pm
The BBQ opens at 3pm.
The LIVE MUSIC begins at 4pm with Nina Garcia.
Bill & Olly (not Ben as previously advertised) from The Leggomen start at 7pm.

We hope the weather will be kind and we all enjoy this much needed Fun Day.
We ask all to be sensible & respectful of social distancing due to the current viral pandemic which we are all learning to live with.

Classic Cars Display at Broadwindsor’s Fun Day

There will be a display of Classic Cars in the Comrades Hall car park on the morning of Broadwindsor’s Fun Day, Saturday, 14th August. Again a scaled down version from what we’ve had in previous years but certainly more than we had last year! The cars will be on display from 10am until 12.30pm.
Anyone interested (specifically in the classic cars) is asked to contact: bwfundaycars@gmail.com.

Help is needed with setting up for the day’s events (setting out tables & chairs etc.) and with putting everything back as it was at the end of the day. If you can volunteer a couple of hours of your time that day – at your earliest convenience, please contact: bwfunday20@gmail.com.

Update From Broadwindsor Fun Group

A letter from Adrian Gray, Chair of Broadwindsor Fun Group:

Dear All,

The sun is shining and this has led me to reflect on how our plans for the event planned for Broadwindsor’s Fun Day on Saturday, 14th August are progressing.

I am very pleased to announce great progress and even more importantly that we now have a new treasurer appointed after David Taylor decided, after years of service, to stand down. I am grateful for his guidance and work to keep the finances healthy. Similarly I am very pleased to welcome Michele Williams aboard. Michele’s association with the village dates back to 1968 when her family purchased the Old Schoolhouse. She will be moving into the village as soon as maintenance work is complete but Michele is already working hard to make sure a transfer of funds and authorisations with the bank are sorted.

As for the day itself,

Strawberry Jam the Children’s entertainer has confirmed that she will be there.
We can also confirm that Nina Garcia (originally booked for last year’s cancelled Fun Day) will be performing.
Sadly Shelby’s Elbows were unable to reconfirm their booking so after a lot of research and negotiation, we have booked Bill & Ben from the Leggomen to perform to close the day.
Both performers have YouTube videos should you wish to listen to them before the day.
We are pleased to announce that not only will the local Girl Guides will be leading a Trail event open to all but also
That the Broadwindsor W.I. have agreed to do the refreshments on the day.
There will be some Classic Cars in attendance.

Molly reports that bookings for stalls are selling well so if you should want a stall, which is not restricted to art & craft, please do not delay in contacting her at: handcraftedbymolls@gmail.com.
We have arranged for those running the BBQ this year to undergo a Food Safety course, particularly important given the current environment, so we can be confident that everyone is safe.
Our pub, The White Lion too has confirmed their support. We sincerely hope that Vikki & Spike are still here with us to share the day.
There will be a small raffle on the day with Hampers as prizes.
This has been intentionally kept small to not take too much time and more importantly, it was felt the one of the aims of the event was to support local businesses and thus they should not be asked for prize donations. They have all had a hard time lately and we wanted to show support and provide a platform for them to display their wares.

Whilst there is still much work to be done to ensure that the day runs as well as possible, it is good to have a day to look forward to so please ensure that it is firmly in your diary. Saturday, 14^th August 2021.

Broadwindsor Will Party On Saturday 14th August 2021

Broadwindsor Fun Group Chairman, Adrian Gray has announced that the group will hold a scaled down and COVID-aware Fun Day on Saturday, August 14th 2021.

There will be Live Music, a BBQ, some stalls and childrens’ entertainment. The festivities will happen in Bernards’ Place and inside the Comrades Hall. There will be no road closures.

As David Taylor has now retired from his position, Broadwindsor Fun Group are in need of a person to hold the role of Treasurer. The position is voluntary. Anyone interested is asked to please contact Adrian directly or email: bwfunday20@gmail.com
