Bunting!

Bunting triangles are well underway to decorate our village for the Jubilee weekend celebrations in June. Jacqui’s ambitious goal is to have enough bunting to go all around Bernards’ Place, up the High Street and down Back Lane with cotton flags – no flapping plastic!

Regardless of age or gender, if you can help by:

  • donating fabric (cotton or poly cotton)
  • cutting out,
  • sewing or
  • turning the triangles the right way out & ironing them

Please contact Jacqui Sewell on 01308 867145. Jacqui is also holding Bunting Workshops at the Post Office on2nd Friday of every month – there’s fabric to take away to cut out the triangles (template provided, cut out triangles etc …..

Beetle Drive Afternoon – 2pm Saturday, 29th January

Broadwindsor Fun Group are holding a Beetle Drive afternoon at the Comrades Hall at 2pm on Saturday, 29th January to raise funds for the Jubilee Fun Day in June.

Great fun for all the family – the aim of the game is to be the first player to draw a complete beetle and shout ‘Beetle!’. In teams of four…

Each part of the beetle’s body has a number that matches a number on the dice:

Once ‘Beetle!’ has been called the game will end. Each member of the group works out their score; 1 point for each part of the beetle that you have drawn. The person with the highest score on your table has won your game and now would move to the next table (in an anticlockwise direction). If 2 people on the table have the same highest score, then the youngest person would move.  Because of the pandemic, the Group will not have people moving onto different tables so you will stay with your group throughout the afternoon.

12 games will be played.

There will be a short interval halfway through with light refreshments on sale.

Prizes will be awarded for those with the highest overall point score and for the best drawn beetle by a junior 🙂

Tickets on sale now: £2.00 in advance at Broadwindsor Community Stores or £3.00 at the door.

🙂 An affordable afternoon’s fun in a somewhat dreary January!

Saturday’s Fun Group Christmas Party Cancelled

On the anniversary of the party that didn’t take place at 10 Downing Street last year, there will be no festive party at the Comrades Hall this Saturday.  Due to the Omnicron variant now being present in the village and surrounding areas, Broadwindsor Fun Group have been left with no alternative but to cancel this Saturday’s Festive Fun event.

Full refunds are available to ticket holders from the village shop.

The Silver Lining Band will be invited back in the new year and to raise funds for next year’s jubilee event, the Festive Hamper will now be raffled off in Broadwindsor Community Stores at £1 a ticket. 🙂

Chairman, Adrian Gray thanked everyone for their efforts.

As the event is cancelled, the Comrades Arms will be open on Saturday from 6pm – free entry, all are welcome.

Broadwindsor Fun Group’s Party Gets The Go Ahead

Dear Broadwindsor residents,

I write to confirm that the party planned for next Saturday, 18th December to raise funds for the Jubilee Fun Day, IS GOING AHEAD.

When planning the event we had given much thought to any risks regarding Covid and it is due to that consideration, we are able to still to do so. Naturally all Government rules will be followed. The numbers of tickets have been restricted to around 50% of the hall capacity so space should not be an issue. We will have hand sanitizer at the door and ask that everyone uses it please. Similarly we would ask that attendees compete a lateral flow test before arriving. Masks should be worn when moving around and whilst not strictly required whilst dancing, wearing is encouraged.

Thanks to those who are supporting the event, we certainly need something festive in the run up to Christmas!

I hope to see you there, some tickets are still available from the village shop.

Festive Regards,

Adrian
Chair BFG.

Bunting For Jubilee 2022

Can you help make the 2022 Platinum Jubilee Weekend really special for Broadwindsor?

Village resident, Parish Councillor and member of Broadwindsor Fun Group, Jacqui Sewell is at the helm of our village’s Bunting Project for our Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations next June.

Jacqui, who is known to be proficient with her sewing machine skills through her work at local craft fairs and with Dawn Newberry at Dorset Designers on Facebook, has this request:

Will you help me make fabric bunting as it would have been in the 1950’s, not noisy plastic flags flapping in the breeze? I want to recycle – repurpose – reuse as much as possible!

  • Do you have any cotton fabric (flowers, abstract, plain) that you could donate?
  • Are you able to cut out triangles (template provided)?
  • Or could you fix the triangles onto the tape ready for sewing?
  • Perhaps you could sew up the triangles?

If you can help in any way please telephone me on 01308 867145. I’m also starting monthly Bunting Workshops at the Post Office on 2nd Friday of every month beginning on 14th January 2022

An Incredible Evening

Approximately 500 people flocked to Broadwindsor’s Cricket Club Pavilion last night to watch Broadwindsor Fun Group’s organised Firework display led by village resident & member of Broadwindsor Fun GroupAndrew Hookings.

Stewards were in place and worked ‘flat out’ for 3 hours, continually guiding people and their families safely in and out of the grounds.

The Fun Group’s Food stall had some people queuing for 50 minutes before completely selling out of burgers and hot dogs, almost exclusively cooked by Vice-chairman, Martin Burt with his trusty meat thermomenter! Delicious hot soups and mulled wine also sold very well.
The Cricket Club’s bar sold out too, with a quick trip to the Co-op required to stock up!

All those involved under estimated the crowd who attended and this has been attributed to local advertising; no other local organised displays taking place; the forecast of dry weather and admission was free 🙂

Special thanks must go to Margery Hookings who raised an astonishing  £743.07 in her special family collection bucket!

Incredible. I can’t recall ever seeing that many people in the village” was one local comment made.  David Leader, who worked with the BFG Core group on the food stall stated “I don’t think I have ever been involved in catering for so many people in such a short period of time.” Cars parking on the verges at Cross Keys and on the grass area at the front of Redlands Lane was not appreciated but thankfully were there for just one hour.

Broadwindsor House have posted lovely videos on their Facebook page – Click HERE & HERE.

A huge thank you to all involved and all who came along to support the event!

Following the success of this event, Broadwindsor Fun Group and Broadwindsor Cricket Club will have a debrief meeting with a view to holding the event next year.

Don’t forget…

This Tuesday evening at 7.30pm – Broadwindsor Fun Group are holding their Open Planning meeting to discuss 2022’s Jubilee’s celebrations and more fundraising dates.
All are welcome.  For more information and the Agenda – Click HERE.
