Sophia’s Choice At Redlands Yard

Last Saturday, Sophia’s Choice celebrated its 7th Birthday trading in Beaminster.  We now welcome Charlie Hughes to her new location at Redlands Yard in Broadwindsor, which will be open on Thursday 3rd December.

In the beginning:

Sophia’s Choice began as a Green Family Lifestyle blog back in October 2012, which grew into an online shop selling many of the brands that owner Charlie had written about. “In March 2016, I opened their first “bricks and mortar” shop with treatment room in Beaminster, after my youngest daughter started school. After a break away from my holistic therapies when my children were small, this was a great opportunity to go back to offering holistic treatments again in addition to the shop.”

Charlie & DaughterWhen asked about the effects of LockdownCharlie said,

Lockdown has brought many challenges both personal and business. As a relatively new, small business I navigated through the after effects of the Beaminster cash point raid in August 2018. However, lockdown in March further impacted this with reduced customer footfall, and although we were able to serve the community 3 mornings a week with their healthy essentials, all the close contact treatments I offer had to close with immediate effect.
Juggling home schooling my two girls with the shop brought its challenges but as a family we supported each other through this difficult time. Sadly, as a small independent business, the effects of this first lockdown meant I had to make the difficult decision at the end of August to scale everything back and move to smaller premises in a bid to keep my business alive. I’m sure I won’t be the only business who has to make difficult decisions at this time.

Charlie continued with her Optimism for the Future,

Juggling the needs of my girls with my business has been hard. However, I’m hopeful that this move to Redlands Yard in Broadwindsor is the right one. I have been warmly welcomed here which means a lot to me. I hope I can add value to what is already here, as I love being a part of a community. It was very weird opening the shop again on the first day of the second lockdown, however I look forward to the buzz of the centre being open again very soon.

Moving forward, the way we operate will be slightly different than before.

  • The shop will be open every Thursday and Friday from 9.30am – 3.00pm if you want to stop by and shop your healthy essentials.
  • Treatment days are scheduled for Tuesdays and Wednesdays at this time, with other options available by prior arrangement.
  • In the run up to Christmas, it is my intention to open the shop on some Saturdays too.”

I very much look forward to welcoming customers new and old to our new home here at Redlands Yard. It will be great to see you all again soon.

Sophia's ChoiceYou can view all products on the website online HERE where you’ll find a range suitable for the whole family which are Natural, Organic and Nourishing.
Contact Charlie by email: info@sophiaschoice.co.uk
or on 07525 662888.

Welcome to our community Charlie and Good Luck for the Future!

Shopping Permits Throughout The County?

You have until midnight on Saturday, December 5th to have your say on a new shoppers permit for Dorset.

Residents in the former West Dorset District Council area have been able to purchase shopping permits for several years. This took the form of a cardboard disk which is displayed in vehicle windscreens.  It currently allows 2 hours’ parking per day (or 3 hours if a disabled badge is also displayed), 7 days a week.

They want to know if this should be extended across the Dorset Council area, or if the permits should be withdrawn. The new proposed permit may be virtual where the registration number allows access for a set period in short stay car parks.

Let them know what you think while you still can!

Complete their 5 minute consultation HERE.

If a decision is made to stop the scheme, the Western Dorset permits will remain valid until their expiry date.
