The popular Melplash Show, due to take place on 27th August is unsurprisingly cancelled this year. However, the Bridport Museum Trust are in collaboration and from the 13th – 27th August they are sharing Melplash photographs and objects from their collections online. They are inviting locals to do the same.
There are old photographs already being submitted to their Facebook page including the black and white one below where they are asking for identification of the prize winning lady in the photograph!
“You can share your favourite memories, anecdotes, memorabilia, photos or videos…. anything at all. We want to see your fluffy sheep, handsome cows, massive tractors…..just post on our Facebook page, Twitter or Instagram @bridportmuseum using the hashtag #MelplashMemories.”
Thankfully, if you’re not a fan of social media – you can simply email your images to firstname.lastname@example.org and they will post it up for you.
Cancellation of the show does not mean no show badges! For 2020 they have produced a limited edition badge which is available to pick up from Bridport Tourist Information Centre.

There are numbered zones on the ramps which will help with social distancing and make users feel safe. Rob said: “If we get busy or we have youngsters we can say, ‘stay in that zone’ and people can keep in their zones, not just because of the virus, but if they are learning, hopefully it will stop a collision or two.”
Don’t want to take part but watch?
Then relax on one of their comfortable stools in the viewing gallery.
Rob Ridge and Dom Brown, known for The Trick Factory indoor skate park which closed in St Michael’s, Bridport in 2016 got the thumbs up from Dorset Council to change the use of unit 2A from a general industrial unit, to a skate park, with support by Bradpole parish council. They and their team would like to thank all those who donated to the facility’s Crowdfunder and all the local businesses that donated money or equipment.
They are still seeking volunteers to supervise and businesses to advertise at the skate park. Keep up to date and communicate with them through their Facebook page HERE.
