Petition Against Extended Car Park Charges

Most will be aware that Dorset Council has a series of proposals to raise extra money from local car parks. This includes charging between 6pm and 8pm from Monday to Saturday and daytime on Sundays. The daily rate for some car parks, including those in Bridport and Lyme Regis, is proposed to double.

There are many who are concerned that these new charges will increase parking in nearby residential streets where parking is currently free.  There is an online petition calling on Dorset Council to withdraw their plans to extend these car parking charges.

The petition has been launched by the Liberal Democrat Party.  However, you are able to sign the petition and state whether or not you want to be updated by email about their campaigns.

Sign the petition HERE.

Michael Frampton’s Funeral Arrangements

Stalwart of our local farming community, Mike Frampton, 82yrs, died peacefully last Friday morning at Dorset County Hospital following a short period of illness.

The patriarch of the Frampton family leaves behind his wife Jean, with whom he recently celebrated their Diamond wedding anniversary, their three children: Gillian, Tim and Andrew, 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
The family have farmed in the parish for 108 years and Michael could often been seen leading his sheep through the village or driving cattle from the fields of Lewesdon back to Burstock.  One of the other things some villagers will miss is his spontaneous piano playing at the Comrades Hall where he made everyone smile with his unique Les Dawsonesque style.

Our Deepest CondolencesOur condolences go out to them all.

Mike Frampton’s funeral will be a private service at St John the Baptist Church, Broadwindsor on Friday 27th November at 12noon in accordance with current pandemic legislation.

The Cortège will arrive at the church around 11.45am into the village square from where some may stand and watch, socially distanced and wearing masks.  There will be speakers allowing the service to be carried outside.

Donations on the day to the Stroke Association please, c/o A J Wakely & Sons Bridport.

Cliff Fall Near West Bay

Many in our parish visit West Bay and Lyme Regis to see the sea.  As expected, a large section of Highlands Park cliff near West Bay fell last night.
  • Dorset Council reported an alternative path that takes people away from the fall has been kindly provided by Highlands End Holiday Park.
  • Walkers must read the on-site information, not climb over the barriers and follow this path.
  • The cliff is still falling and unstable.
All feedback/photos courtesy of the landowner.

Leaves Cleared

In today’s stormy weather, a massive thank you to Jamie Dawson who helped Cllr. David Leader clear all the leaves from the pavement and car parking area from our Community Stores down to the school entrance.

This considerate, community action is what makes our village Community great – whatever the weather! 🙂

Friday 13th is World Kindness Day

World Kindness Day is to highlight good deeds in the community focusing on the positive power and the common thread of kindness which binds us. Kindness is a fundamental part of the human condition which bridges the divides of race, religion, politics, gender and post codes.

It was introduced in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement and there are now over 28 nations involved in The World Kindness Movement.  Kindness Day UK was launched on 13th November 2010.

You can pledge a good deed and also find a wide range of resources including ideas for random acts of kindness both large and small on the Kindness UK website HERE.

Kindness starts with one. One smile. One compliment. One cup of coffee. One conversation.

Wobbly Cottage Say Thank You

The Wobbly Cottage artisan bakery at Redlands Yard celebrated 3 years of business there today and owners Rich & Dani had this to say:

Bit of a #throwback to our opening day 3 years ago. 3 years of a bricks and mortar bakery and shop, how did that happen?! A huge thank you to everyone that has supported us in every which way, customers old and new and to all of you that continue to support us even in these very odd times we find ourselves in. We are so lucky to have such loyal and supportive people around us. Thank You!

Congratulations to you both!

The Official UK Coronavirus Dashboard

Updated late this afternoon, the Government’s UK Coronavirus Dashboard with an interactive map.

You can browse cases data for specific areas within the UK. The map displays weekly data, which are updated everyday. This image shown here is our local area.  Use the slider on the online map to select a week-ending date.

Key to interactive online map:

  • Local view: The default zoom level shows Upper Tier Local Authorities (UTLA).
Zoom in for more details, including Lower Tier Local Authorities (LTLA) and Middle layer Super Output Areas (MSOA).
  • Suppressed rates: MSOA level rates are suppressed where there have been fewer than 3 cases in a seven-day period. This is to protect the privacy of individuals and prevent disclosure.
  • More details: Click on an area to see more detailed cases data for the most recent time period available – including seven day case rates and direction of change.
  • When zoomed to very small areas, data for Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales are not available.

To view the full interactive map and explore other postcodes, Click HERE.

Output areas (OA) were created for Census data, specifically for the output of census estimates. The UK Census is undertaken every 10 years, with the most recent being on 27 March 2011. If you would like to read more on Census Geography, please click HERE.
