As well as the 16.35 from Yeovil to Bridport now serving Yeovil College at 16.45, tying in with the end of classes and meaning students can get home, there will be a Sunday service again – between Weymouth, Bridport and Lyme Regis.
The last bus from Dorchester has been rescheduled to meet the 18.47 train arrival from London. (bus re-timed from 18.40 to 18.55).
Also from 3rd October – Services X51 and X53 to/from Weymouth – Dorchester – Bridport – West Bay – Lyme Regis – Axminster timetables can be found HERE.
Thank you to Parish Cllr. Jacqui Sewell for the information.
The Autumn Plant Fair at Mapperton has been an outstanding event for many years, and is one of the largest and most popular specialist plant fairs in Dorset. A great day out for plant lovers in the area with a a large number of stalls of specialist plantsmen from all over the region.
Open at 10am until 4pm, fill your garden with late season herbaceous perennials and grasses, and bulbs for autumn planting are always popular. There are bound to be Salvias in flower and more unusual pitcher plants catching end of summer flies. Also available will be metal plant supports and structures, plus a range of Acers and shrubs. as well a trip for those who want a ‘Gardeners Day Out’ in fantastic surroundings. Access to their gardens (winner of the Garden of the Year 2020 Historic Houses award) is included in the entry price. Please note – Mapperton House will be closed on the day.
All proceeds go to Save The Children.
Parish Councillor, Jacqui Sewell has continued to campaign and lobby for rural transport ever since she was an elected West Dorset Council member and was WDDC’s representative on WATAG (West Dorset Western Area Transport Action Group).
Today, still with WATAG, she was pleased to see that, at last – “the No. 6A bus WILL pick up the students from Yeovil College at 16.45pm for homeward travel to Broadwindsor – now to get Dorset Council to get Rural Access to Public Transport.”
Children from Broadwindsor will still have to travel to Beaminster in the morning.
The bus is being operated by Somerset Council. The timetable shown below.
The Dorset Council Cabinet member with responsibility for transport is East Dorset Councillor, Ray Bryan who is Portfolio Holder for Highways, Travel and Environment. His contact details are:
Beaminster Tunnel (A3066) will be closed for works tomorrow, to enable Upton Tree Services Ltd safe access to carry out urgent tree works on behalf of Dorset Council to remove a dead tree.
Tunnel Road will be closed at both entrances to the tunnel from 8am until 5pm. There is a 43 mile diversion route which will be signposted in both Dorset and Somerset: A3066 – A356 – A37 – A35 – A30. It is estimated the diversion journey will take just over 70 minutes.
The reason for the length of the diversion is because the closure is on an A-road and therefore any official alternative route must use the same class of road.
Locals will be aware that there are a number of shorter, unofficial routes that can be taken to avoid the road closure. Please note: these are not suitable for HGVs and should be avoided if using larger machinery or towing caravans. Drive safe!
The road closure notice will remain in force for five days, but it is anticipated that the works will be completed on the day.
For further information about the work being undertaken, call:
Upton Tree Services Ltd on 07384548283.
