The oldest rivalry in international football … At 8pm on ITV this evening, England play Scotland in their 2nd match of the UEFA EURO Cup at Wembley Stadium. The teams have not faced each other since a pulsating 2-2 draw at Hampden Park in 2017, a match which saw three goals in the final six minutes!
Gareth Southgate, his team and the English fans are all confident of victory having beat Croatia 1-0 last Sunday with a goal scored by Manchester City Forward, Raheem Sterling. At their 10th attempt, this was the first time England have ever won their opening match.
England are hoping that it will be a repeat of the classic encounter between England and Scotland at Euro 96. England won that day 2-0 with goals from Alan Shearer and Paul Gascoigne.
The Scots however, their first appearance in a major tournament in 23 years last week, were reminded of the disappointment of watching Scotland at the World Cup in Argentina 43 years ago as Patrik Schick from the Czech Republic put two goals in the back of Scotland’s net – one of them extraordinary from the halfway line. Steve Clarke and his team have a lot to do!

It was mainly sunshine this afternoon and a brief rain shower was followed by a beautiful rainbow high in the sky over Fullers and our village. Three local villagers were in competition.
The match was close at times and despite scoring the most Woody’s of the afternoon, Peter Davies (in main photo) had accumulated the most points over the last 14 weeks with 226 and at 3pm was declared the overall Winner of their championship. The title of the most Woody’s overall could have been declared before the match began as Steve ‘Slick’ Kylie was so far ahead on this count!
Steve won this afternoon’s match but overall had accumulated 217 points and he received the Runner up trophy. There was also a trophy for the one coming in last and the Loser’s trophy went to Mike ‘Slammer’ Steer who managed just 201 points.
With Christmas music playing, they enjoyed a barbecue at half time and a few passer’s by observing the action, they were fortunate with the weather although it was a cold wind.

On Sunday, 27th December on the lawn of 13 Fullers in Broadwindsor starting around 11.30am/12noon, there is a very serious competition taking place.
About four months ago, during Lockdown, three residents of Fullers were so bored, they decided to play a game of bowls on a sunny Sunday afternoon and enjoyed a small barbecue of chicken and burgers on one of their lawns. They so enjoyed their afternoon, they decided to do the same the following week. They have now been playing each Sunday and maintaining the chosen lawn for almost four months, religiously whatever the weather.
The three individuals competing are Mike Steer a.k.a. Slammer, Peter Davies a.k.a. Hartley’s & Steve Kylie a.k.a. Slick. all residents of Fullers.
They are competing for the trophies shown. The one on the left is for the winner. The one on the right is for the runner-up. The one in the centre is for the Woody champion. The Woody trophy will be awarded to the unfortunate individual who hits the blocks of wood in the centre of their lawn (an addition to make it a bit more interesting) the most times. Trophies will be awarded after play, prior to their barbecue by Web Mistress, Wendy Shields.
Peter Davies assured that “Even if there’s six inches of snow, we’ll clear the lawn and play! It’s a bit of good fun.”
Spectators are welcome 🙂 Their match is expected to last 90-120 minutes.
