Anthony & Rachael HoneyballPotwell Farm was once a dairy farm and is set amidst our beautiful West Dorset countryside. Anthony and Rachael Honeyball moved there in 2012.
Anthony began his involvement with horses back at his family home on the Quantocks, Somerset. His father John Honeyball, as well as being a Master of the Taunton Vale Hunt was a successful trainerHis mother Sue was a talented show jumper. From starting to train horses at his father’s home, he then rented a yard from Richard Barber before moving to Potwell Farm in 2012.
Rachael
started out in the eventing world working for international event riders and competing up to intermediate level before the racing took over. She joined up with Anthony’s yard in 2009 and brought along her valuable experience acquired whilst Richard Barber’s Head Girl.
Over the last 3 years race riding has taken a back seat for Rachael. She has become the mother of 2 beautiful babies – Harry and Hattie.
Rachael continues to ride out 3 or 4 lots each day, and is very much hands on with the running of the yard and the decisions of where and when the horses run.
Moving to Potwell Farm allowed Anthony’s training operation to expand and progress, whilst still having the advantage of the famous Seaborough gallop. Antonia Cole has been instrumental in the expansion of their farm, firstly in purchasing the property in 2003, and secondly in allowing them to make improvements as and when required.
Over the past decade Potwell has gradually evolved from a small stud with one barn and a tack room, housing Antonia’s private horses, to a thriving professional yard with facilities to support their resident athletes.

Potwell Farm HorsesThey have 40 boxes at Potwell Farm, situated in seven well ventilated barns, with windows in each stable. They all have self-filling water drinkers ensuring horses have access to water at all times. As with any successful business every improvement they make is an improvement on the last, so the new boxes have been fitted with Sealed Rubber mats supplied by Quattro Matting, suppliers of race courses and yards all over Britain.
In addition, they have a covered eight-horse walker on the site. They have at their disposal six turn out paddocks and three fields, along with extensive open schooling areas.

They offer ownership packages to suit every pocket.  Visit their website HERE.

Were you Witness To A Hate Crime Incident In Beaminster?

Dorset Police have issued a Witness appeal following a hate crime incident in Beaminster.
Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward following a hate crime incident in Beaminster.
At around 3.50pm on Wednesday 2 December 2020 the male victim was walking his dog along Hogshill Street when he saw a vehicle parked on the pavement, causing him to have to walk in the road to get around it.
The victim asked the driver of the vehicle to move it off the pavement. It is reported that the driver shouted racially aggravated abuse at the victim.
Police Constable Dan White, of Bridport police, said: “There is no place for hate crime in the community and I am carrying out an investigation to identify the man responsible.”
I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed what happened to please get in touch.
I would also ask residents or motorists to check their home CCTV systems or dashcams for any relevant footage to assist my enquiries.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police:

Report All Scams To Action Fraud

Earlier today, a village resident received a telephone call from a withheld number.  It was a male stating that he was Detective Sergeant Thomas from Southampton Police.  They had allegedly arrested and were holding a woman in Southampton with the same name as our resident, giving the same address. The woman, who was also claiming to be a niece of the resident, added some fragmented details of the resident’s living situation. The Sergeant gave his badge number of: 4416BA and a crime reference number.  Our resident was then instructed to telephone her bank, using the number on the back of her bank card.  As it would happen, our resident had already done some online banking that morning and knew that her affairs were in order. The Sergeant insisted that it was important this was done, that he would hang up, ending the telephone call and call back in 15 minutes.  He also made a comment that the person they arrested was male.  When it was pointed out to him that he initially said they had arrested a female, he hung up and did not call back.

Our resident then contacted Southampton Police giving them the details of what had happened.  Sadly, not an uncommon occurrence.  Somehow, the scammers keep the line open for when you call your bank.  They then overhear you confirming your bank details and passwords to your bank – giving them easier access to steal from your account.  The advice given by Southampton Police was to report the incident to Action Fraud.

Action Fraud is the UK’s national reporting centre for fraud and cybercrime where you should report fraud if you have been scammed, defrauded or experienced cyber crime in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. You can report as a Guest but if you register, you can:

  • Save and resume a partially completed report
  • Track progress of your report
  • Add information to your report
  • Call them to discuss your report
  • Receive an update by email

If you are a victim of any scam – report it HERE.

You can talk to their fraud and cybercrime specialists by calling 0300 123 2040.

Christmas Bin Collections

Dorset Council does not collect real Christmas trees at the kerbside.

If you buy a real Christmas tree there are options for what to do once you’ve finished with it and removed all its decorations:

  • If you have a garden waste collection, you can cut your real tree into small pieces and put it in your garden waste bin
  • Real Christmas trees can be taken to your local Household Recycling Centre and placed in the garden waste container for composting, free of charge.

Dorset Council are also asking residents to consider more eco-friendly options such as home composting, or buying a rooted tree that can be kept in the garden until next year.

Fullers Lockdown Bowls Championship On Sunday 27th December

On Sunday, 27th December on the lawn of 13 Fullers in Broadwindsor starting around 11.30am/12noon, there is a very serious competition taking place.

About four months ago, during Lockdown, three residents of Fullers were so bored, they decided to play a game of bowls on a sunny Sunday afternoon and enjoyed a small barbecue of chicken and burgers on one of their lawns.  They so enjoyed their afternoon, they decided to do the same the following week. They have now been playing each Sunday and maintaining the chosen lawn for almost four months, religiously whatever the weather.

The three individuals competing are Mike Steer a.k.a. Slammer, Peter Davies a.k.a. Hartley’s & Steve Kylie a.k.a. Slick. all residents of Fullers.
They are competing for the trophies shown. The one on the left is for the winner.  The one on the right is for the runner-up.  The one in the centre is for the Woody champion.  The Woody trophy will be awarded to the unfortunate individual who hits the blocks of wood in the centre of their lawn (an addition to make it a bit more interesting) the most times.  Trophies will be awarded after play, prior to their barbecue by Web Mistress, Wendy Shields.

Fullers Lockdown Bowlers
From Right to Left: Mike Steer, Peter Davies & Steve Kylie.

Peter Davies assured that “Even if there’s six inches of snow, we’ll clear the lawn and play! It’s a bit of good fun.

Spectators are welcome 🙂 Their match is expected to last 90-120 minutes.

Sophia’s Choice are Retail Winners

Sophia’s Choice in Redlands Yard have won  ‘Best Independent Natural Health & Beauty Retailer 2020in the Southern Enterprise Awards.
SME is a Small or Medium-sized Enterprise. Typically, they are defined as having fewer than 250 employees.
SME News was first launched in 2017 making it one of AI Global Media’s newer publications.  SME News is a quarterly magazine circulated to just over 100,000 recipients. The publication seeks to inform, entertain, influence and endorse the start-up and SME business culture in the UK.  Their flagship awards programme UK Enterprise Awards launched in 2017 and has rapidly become a programme that SMEs across the UK are keen to be a part of.
Charlie at Sophia’s Choice commented: “After a rather mixed year with a lot of upheaval, it is wonderful to have been recognised in this way.  For many awards you tend to pay to enter, however this one you don’t. It’s done on merit and anyone can nominate you. The shortlist is then sent to an independent judging panel who make their decision.
As a small retailer I don’t always fit into other award categories as I don’t make the products I sell and many awards focus on this. So, to have been nominated and selected for an award based on merit makes this one even more special.
It’s a great way to end 2020. Thank you SME News!

Congratulations to Charlie & her team!
