Broadwindsor’s Jubilee Beacon – TONIGHT, 2nd June, 9.15pm

Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations for the weekend begin tonight with the lighting of the Beacon.

The photograph shows the ironwork created and donated by village resident & craftsman, Rob Hedditch. This will be attached to the pole of the beacon before it is lit this evening. Thank you to Rob!

Tilly Jardine will be performing on her bugle. Pip Cadwell, caretaker of the beacon since 1997 will light it 🙂

The newly formed Broadwindsor Platinum Jubilee Choir will have their debut performance singing ‘A Life Filled With Grace‘ simultaneously with choirs around the world at 9.45pm. They will perform it again on Saturday afternoon.

The specially prepared Beacon tarts (learn more HERE) will be available at The White Lion afterwards for a free tasting – it is on a first come, first served basis so be quick!

Note: there are not many Souvenir Programmes left – some in the pub and the last delivery was made to the shop yesterday! The Chairman will have some on sale tonight.

T-Shirts For Tommy

Samples of T-shirts with the winning slogan of “Broadwindsor Where Community Matters” will be on sale & orders taken on Saturday, 4th June at the village Fun Day.

Profits will go towards the purchase of a memorial for those lost in conflict, similar to the one shown. At present no external memorial exists in our village.

The T-shirts, which are of high quality, are £15 each. This generates a profit of £2 per T-shirt to go towards the purchase of a Tommy style memorial and thereby supporting the Royal British Legion. Remember to state your size when ordering!

T-Shirt With Village Slogan

As many will be aware the T-shirt logo poll closed recently with the slogan ‘Where Community Matters‘ receiving the most votes. There were 2,768 votes cast with the winner receiving nearly 30% of them.

The sponsor, who wishes to remain anonymous, has stated that a small company StuartAusten.co.uk has been asked to research how and where the T-shirts can be produced.

Originally, the sponsor had stated that any profits for the sale of the T-shirts should be put forward to support the Save the White Lion fund. However, given the fact that this worthy cause has exceeded its target, it has been decided that the profits will go towards the purchase of a memorial for those lost in conflict. At present no external memorial exists in the village.

Twosday – 22.02.2022

Today is Tuesday, being called Twosday because of the date.

22.02.2022 is both a palindrome (reads the same forwards and backwards) and a ambigram (on a calculator it reads the same upside down). More twos to be seen at twenty two minutes and 22 seconds past ten this evening: 22:22:22

The date is unqique in that it last happened once before, more than a thousand years ago on 11.01.1011. There will never be a 33.03.3033 as there is not month with 33 days in it.

The palindome has only happened twice before on 1.11.11 and 11.11.11. The next one will occur in 11 years, as Threesday – 3.3.33.

In 100 years, there will be a 22.2.22. There will also be the 22.2.2222, but that will fall on a Friday.

Across the world, Twosday is a lighthearted date and one to be celebrated as its next occurrence won’t be until the next millennium.

Lynne’s slogan will be printed on the front of T-shirts being printed with The White Lion logo on the back.

Proceeds from the sale of the T-shirts will go to the Save The White Lion fund.

Shop Manager Applications Extended To: Monday, 28th February.

Sadly, this position has not had the best response, so it has been decided to extend the closing date until Monday, 28th February 2022.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the store, managing and working alongside two part-time assistants and a team of volunteers.
You will be computer literate and possess excellent inter-personal skills.
You will be expected to demonstrate initiative, imagination and leadership to implement strategies to increase customer spend and shop profitability.
Relevant retail experience would be beneficial as would a liquor licence.
As manager you will work a 32 hour week, with early starts, weekend and Bank Holiday work involved.
If appointed, you will be expected to attend Committee Management meetings outside these hours.

Children’s Mental Health Week

This week is Children’s Mental Health Week (7th – 13th February 2022).

The Red Cross promote Kindness Teaching Resourses: Celebrate the power of kindness. Children and young people are encouraged to learn about and practise kind acts with our range of kindness resources. They will learn the importance of being kind to others as well as themselves. It also explores resilience as kindness can help us to cope with any challenges and changes. They offer many free activity packs including:

5-14 yrs. Kindness Activity Pack – includes activities around kindness, coping, recognising feelings and learning new skills.
7-18 yrs. Tackling loneliness – Uses a range of mixed media resources to explore loneliness and how we can help people who feel lonely.
5-11 yrs. The Snowman™ & Snowman Dog Kindness calendars. Children are encouraged to learn about and practise kindness this December with The Snowman™ and The Snowdog in our new kindness calendars.
7-18 yrs. Wellbeing Activities – Managing Stress – Uses activities for young people and children to explore the resources they have to manage and understand stress.
7-18 yrs. Summer of Kindness calendar. Quick activities to encourage simple acts of kindness, build resilience and cover topics such as mental wellbeing and loneliness that will help children and young prepare to go back to school.

Place2Be is a children’s mental health charity with over 25 years’ experience working with pupils, families and staff in UK schools.

They provide mental health support in schools through one-to-one and group counselling using tried and tested methods backed by research. We also offer expert training and professional qualifications. They report:

1 in 6 children and young people have a diagnosable mental health problem, and many continue to have these problems into adulthood.
50% of those with lifetime mental health problems first experience symptoms by the age of 14.
1 in 10 boys aged 5-19 with a mental health condition are excluded in some form from school.
