The White Lion To Show World Cup Matches On TV

The Staff family at the White Lion Community Pub announced earlier “We’ve got a telly!

“By popular request, we’re planning to show major sporting events which are on terrestrial television and involve the national team.
(But rest assured, your community pub is NOT becoming a sports bar and the telly will be put away when it’s not being used.)
First up is the World Cup!
We intend showing all the England games in the group stages at times shown below and when, we hope, England progress to the knockout stages.”

  • Monday 21st November – England v. Iran
Live at 1pm. The pub will be open from 12 noon – 3pm.
Basket food will be available to order before kick-off and will be served at half time.
  • Friday 25th November – England v. USA
    Kick off at 7pm.
Basket food will be available to order before kick-off and will be served at half time.
  • Tuesday 29th November – England v. Wales
    Kick off at 7pm.
Customers can eat their fish and chips in the pub or order a basket meal prior to kick-off, which will be served at half time.

When England progress to the knockout stages, they will be playing in the last 16 on either Saturday 3rd December at 3pm or Sunday 4th at 7pm.
If having successfully overcome the opposition, England is involved in the quarter finals, these will be either Friday 9th December at 7pm or Saturday 10th at 7pm.
If they win their quarter final, England will play their semi-final on either Tuesday 13th December at 7pm or Wednesday 14th at 7pm.
The final is on Sunday 18 December at 6pm.

Good Luck England!

Maybe next time Scotland…

Full Moon – Tuesday, 8th November

The November Full Moon, known as the Beaver Moon, will be at its fullest at 11.02am so will look its fullest on Monday night.

Full Moon names date back to Native Americans of North America. There was some variation in the Full Moon names, but in general, the same ones were consistent among regional tribes – those who rely on Full Moon periods to track crops and harvest.

This was the time to set beaver traps before the swamps froze, to ensure a supply of warm winter furs. Another interpretation suggests that the name Full Beaver Moon comes from the fact that the beavers are now actively preparing for winter. In the 1760s, Captain Jonathan Carver heard this Native American term during his travels.

The brightness of the Full Moon is when the Sun and the Moon are aligned on opposite sides of Earth, and 100% of the Moon’s face is illuminated by the Sun.

It is time to come back down to Earth. Time to settle down. Time to regroup, find your feet and ground yourself back into what’s important to you, what works for you, and what you want in life.

Firework Display A Sparkling Success

An estimated two to three hundred people showed up at Broadwindsor’s Cricket ground this evening.

A set of air pods in a case were found and can be retrieved from the Knapp Inn – please contact Lesley on 01308 862408.

Entry was free but volunteers rattled their collection buckets enthusiastically.  Special thanks must go to the small group of children, who found a five pound note lying in the ground and added it to the donation bucket.

Huge thanks to the organisers, sponsors, volunteer helpers and of course to you, the public for showing up! 🙂 We look forward to this annual event at the Cricket Club next year.

Trick Or Treaters Have A Happy Hallowe’en

Many braved the wet and windy weather, some fortunate ones missed it – our Broadwindsor community put on a great show with lots of decorations, lights and spookiness for the young and not-so-young trick or treaters this year.

Jenni Phillips at Trusthams had a spectacular spider over her door… and Amber Whiting had a tea trolley full of sweets ready for the children – a good job as approx. twenty of Broadwindsor’s Rainbows and Brownies descended upon her 🙂

Yarn Barton too had lights and decorations and welcomed the children.  Local children were congratulated for their politeness and good behaviour when travelling from door to door.

The Little Folk at number 25 had also decorated…

A significant number travelled along to Redlands Lane

Well done you guys! Here you all are in a slideshow… (Clicking on any image will open it in a separate window)

A great effort by everyone – including the White Lion at the weekend – Well done!
