Beaminster Community Larder Starts Today

With Broadwindsor & Drimpton volunteers & members, Beaminster is the new focus for FareShare‘s campaign to reduce food waste and help those with a low income or struggling with bills.  This is not means tested – all DT8 residents are welcome.

Registration opened last week but you can register at any time.  Here’s all you need to know…

NEW VENUE – BEAMINSTER MEMORIAL PAVILION

Open every Monday (except Bank Holidays) from 4pm to 6pm for food collection. The Larder is open to DT8 residents on low income. Just bring proof of address when you apply.

✅ Membership fees are paid one week in advance by cash (£2.50 for individual, £5.00 for +2 family members)
✅ If you can’t attend, you may ask another member to collect on your behalf
✅ Remember to bring your receipt for payment (Including if you are collecting on someone’s behalf)
✅ Please treat our volunteers and venue staff with kindness. Abuse will not be tolerated

FareShare Relaunch – Monday, 3rd November

The long awaited return of FareShare 🙂 Available to low income residents within the DT8 area.

The new venue is at Beaminster Pavilion and the new day is every Monday (excl. Bank Holidays).

Monday, 27th Oct at 4pm. – an information & registration day shall take place. No referral is necessary.
**Please Remember To Bring I.D.**

Membership Fees are payable one week in advance.

  • CASH ONLY
  • £2.50 per week for a single person
  • £5 per week for a 2+ household

Monday, 3rd Nov. at 4pm – Collections will be between 4-6pm.
Your food will be bagged up in advanced.
Please note: There is no option for chilled or frozen at this time.

Final Day Of FareShare, Drimpton

Today marked the final day of the Fareshare Food Larder at Drimpton 🙁

Parish Councillor, Yvonne White, who has led the project since its’ launch in June 2023 released this statement earlier today…

“A massive thank you to the brilliant volunteers who’ve supported this project and helped it grow over the last 2 years to provide affordable food to people across the Broadwindsor Group Parish.

Your time and effort have meant so much.

It hasn’t just been about the food, it’s the friendly face, new friends, support through tough times and access to other services.

I’m sure many will miss our Friday mornings, me included.

Thank you to Drimpton Village Hall Committee for the use of the Hall facilities to support the larder.

Last, but not least to the Fareshare volunteer drivers who brought us the food with a smile on their faces after the long drive from the warehouse 🙂

Beaminster Food Larder will be relaunching in September and continue to provide affordable food to people in the area.

Final FareShare Dates at Drimpton & Beaminster

The last local FareShare Days are:

  • Final Beaminster Larder: Thursday 24th July (changed from 17th July)
  • Final Broadwindsor Larder: Friday 25th July

They hope to open in September, but there has been a delay and they will confirm the official start date as soon as possible. Drimpton Food Larder will no longer operate 🙁

FareShare are proposing a six month trial in a new format and are working towards merging both larders and reopening at Beaminster Pavilion, with collection planned for Mondays between 4–6pm.

Membership is open to:

  • Residents of Beaminster and surrounding local areas, including Broadwindsor & Drimpton
  • People who work in Beaminster and live within reasonable proximity

Please note: Numbers will be limited, and priority will be given to residents of Beaminster.

Details about how to re-register to become a member and information on revised membership fees will be shared as soon as it is known.

What Is the Community Larder?

The larder is a top-up shop, here to support your weekly grocery needs, not replace them. It’s part of a wider effort to promote affordable food access, reduce waste, and foster local connection.

Toy Exchange Alongside FareShare For 2 Weeks

This Friday, 29th November and next Friday, 6th December from 9 – 10.30am there will be a Toy swap for those who have toys their child no longer uses but are still in good condition – could you exchange it for something new for Christmas?

The exchange will be held from 9am inside Drimpton’s Village Hall, alongside FareShare.

Thank You Yeo Valley From FareShare

At this morning’s FareShare in Drimpton, Yeo Valley donated a range of their fully organic soups made with natural and freshly sourced ingredients to be included for distribution – most welcome in this very cold weather.

33 members attended today – feeding a minimum of 65 individuals with in date produce which would otherwise be thrown away!

This is a weekly membership scheme* aimed at helping people make their money go further by reducing food shopping bills.
You must register to become a member. To become a member, collect a form on a Friday morning or request by emailing: FSSouthernCentral@fareshare.org.uk. Once completed, proof of address/ID needs to be provided and you email the completed form to the same email address (or alternatively, bring along on a Friday morning 🙂 ).

*Memberships

Initially weekly membership fees can only be paid in cash and vary dependent on the size of your household:

  • Single person – £2.50 per week – for this you are entitled to 8 products per week, which may include some fruit
    and vegetables.
  • 2-person household – £3.50 per week – for this you are entitled to 12 products per week which may include some fruit and vegetables.
  • 4-person household – £5.00 per week – for this you are entitled to 20 products per week which may include some fruit and vegetables.

CAB At FareShare This Week

The Citizen’s Advice Bureau will have an Outreach individual at this Friday’s (13th October) FareShare at Drimpton Village Hall. If you have any queries or need advice – please take advantage of this service 🙂

The FareShare Larder is a community larder run by volunteers for the benefit of their local community. They are  located in the car park at: Drimpton Village Hall between 9.30am – 10.30am every Friday. Click HERE for more info.

No FareShare Larder On Friday, 1st September

The FareShare Larder WILL be at Drimpton Village Hall this week, on Friday, 25th August from 9.30am.

It will NOT be there next Friday, 1st September.

The reason for this and the difficulties Fareshare are currently experiencing was given by the Help and Kindness Food Larder who coordinate the project…

“… – the need for more drivers is being worked on and both Help and Kindness/NDPAG are currently working with FareShare to spread the net wider in looking for additional volunteer drivers and reviewing and offering solutions to the approach taken to deliver to each larder.  Temporarily, FareShare have also employed a driver this week to help fill the gap. 

However, FareShare have advised this morning that next week from Monday to Friday inclusive (Monday 28th – Friday 1st September) there will be no larders….
We have been assured that a full normal service will resume from Saturday 2nd September.”

FareShare Moves To Drimpton This Friday

Broadwindsor’s FareShare Larder will be at Drimpton this Friday and for the foreseeable future at the same times of 9.30 – 10.30am.

The initiative is led by the NHS & Dorset Council, led locally by Councillor Yvonne White & Vice-Chair Jacqui Sewell who were informed by email that the Comrades Hall Management Committee, with Megan Jones new at the Chair, were ‘very supportive’ but want to charge the group £12/session should the Hall be needed in wet weather.

Comments from local residents are saddened, disgusted and outraged.

There is already a list compiled of volunteers who will transfer the food to those in Broadwindsor who genuinely have no transport and are unable to get to Drimpton.

Anyone who lives in the parish area is eligible to become a member of this group. There is a maximum of  50 members. Find out more HERE (Note: the location is now Drimpton Village Hall).
