Full Moon on Saturday 27th February

The Full Moon on 26th February is known as the Snow Moon’.  Rather self explanatory, so called  due to the typically heavy snowfall that occurs in February. Names for this month’s Moon have historically had a connection to animals:

  • Bald Eagle or Eagle Moon
  • Black Bear or Bear Moon: referring to the time when bear cubs are born.
  • Goose Moon

It is also known by the Cherokee as the Bony Moon or Hungry Moon giving evidence to the fact that food was hard to come by at this time.

About once every 19 years, February does not have a Full Moon, known as a Black Moon. In 2018, this was the case in most time zones. This can only happen in February, as this is the only month which is shorter than a lunar month. When this occurs, both January and March have two New Moons, instead of just one, creating a double Blue Moon.

On February 6, 1971, Alan Shepard became the first man to hit a golf ball on the Moon.

Covid 2nd Vaccine Update From Barton House Surgery

Barton House Medical Practice in Beaminster have released an update:

They started vaccinating in late December 2020 and the 12 week intermission until the 2nd vaccine dates are fast approaching.  They are now receiving information about their next delivery from the NHSE.  They will be inviting patients in order of clinics – data is on the Central National Database.
They need confirmation from NHSE centrally of vaccine delivery before they can put clinic dates on; dates are not known far in advance.

The clinics will be running in March once dates are confirmed.

When they began, they did not have an IT solution that allowed patients to book their own appointments online.  They do now, and so if they have your mobile number, they can send your invite via a text and you can book a vaccine appointment directly online.
Please make sure they have your mobile details as they send a text message to book you into the clinic directly.  If you do not have a mobile – they will telephone you.

Patients do not need to contact the surgery.

Upload your details to their website HERE.

Thank you for your patience – we will get to everyone as soon as we can; as you know – we have a fantastic healthcare and community team who have worked hard to bring this together and make it happen. Stay safe.”  – Dani Farrell
