Restricted Play Please Until 12th November

** Update **

The tape is only round the swings now, the other equipment is good to go! 🙂

The Comrades Hall Management Committee have issued the following request:

Due to the recent wet weather, the ground that has been disturbed during the new installation has become very muddy, and new grass seed has been planted to grow through the safety rubber matting. This is why the whole area has been taped off – it is important that the ground around the apparatus is allowed to settle. We request that children of all ages (including the more adult!) please respect the restriction on use until the official opening on 12th November.

This follows their announcement yesterday on achieving their £20,000 target:

With thanks to our Crowd, extra funding from Sport England and the balance topped up through a generous grant from Dorset Council, we’ve managed to pull it off.
Any money we get over and above our original target will go towards our £25,000 stretch target to help pay for outdoor gym equipment. Some of it can be also put towards new curtains at Comrades Hall to retain the heat generated by the new solar panels and air source heat pumps and therefore doing our bit for the environment.
The new-look Broadwindsor Village Green at Bernards’ Place will be officially opened on Saturday 12th November at 11am, followed by refreshments in The White Lion. We’d love it if you – our Crowd – could come along and join us.

Well done all involved!

Refurbished Bench In Bernards’ Place

The bench, to the left as you enter Bernards’ Place through the gate, was donated by village resident, Megan Jones in memory of her late husband, Ian who died in 2001.

Megan has recently made good on an offer made some 18 months ago to the Comrades Hall committee and organised her brother in law, Keith Jones to replace the worn out wood. The wooden planks had been prepared (the correct type of wood for park benches being used) and were fitted last week.

All work was carried out at their expense. It is a lovely improvement to that area 🙂

Shelter In Bernards’ Place To Be Dismantled Tomorrow – Saturday, 25th June

In preparation for the work on the play area in Bernards’ Place which is due to take place later in the summer, the old timber youth shelter will be dismantled on Saturday, 25th June by a small team of volunteers – village residents, Malcolm Heaver and Chris Edgerley. The working area will be cordoned off and appropriate notices will be in place. This is the final stage of the application made to Dorset Council last June.

With funding from the National Lottery and Low Carbon Dorset, the application made to Dorset Council has already seen solar panels fitted onto the Comrades Hall roof and the air source heating installed.

The next stage is the redevelopment of the play area in Bernards’ Place

The application being made by the Comrades Hall Management Committee is a very large project involving installation of a new state of the art low carbon heating system in air source heating and installing solar panels onto the roof.
As well as this, an overhaul of the play equipment is planned as shown in the second illustration below.

All of this transformation is subject to getting funding, applications have been made to National Lottery and Low Carbon Dorset.

The full Planning Application, P/FUL/2021/01358 can be accessed by clicking HERE and is included in the Group Parish’s Agenda for their meeting on Monday evening.

Comrades Hall AGM – Monday 26th April

Broadwindsor Comrades Hall AGM will be held on Monday 26 April, starting at 7 pm sharp, via Zoom. The first CHMC (Comrades Hall Management Committee) meeting will follow straight after, also via Zoom.

Membership of CHMC is open to all persons 16yrs and over. No previous experience is necessary just a desire to get involved with the Community to ensure that the village hall is there for all, for a long time to come.

We are currently exploring several major projects in the Hall and in the playground area Bernards’ Place. We have seen local people already start on these projects. More work will be necessary in the coming months so more Volunteers would be very welcome. Who knows, maybe your idea or expertise could be the one to help make these happen.

If you are interested in joining us please contact me for an application form.

I look forward to welcoming you onto the CHMC.

Bernards’ Place Update

As always, Cllr. David Leader sends a huge thank you to all the wonderful people who turned up to help at Bernards’ place on Sunday morning.

A very productive morning. The main photograph shows Chris, Jamie and John ready for action.  The volunteers also managed to plant wildflower seed in prepared ground alongside the footpath by The Old George and clean the fingerpost sign in the square.

Work Party Needed At Bernards’ Place This Sunday

Outside brushes and shovels will be the order of the day. Help is needed this Sunday, 28th March at 9am at Bernards’ Place in Broadwindsor. The plan is to tidy up the area and make it all look good for Easter!

AmmoniteChris Edgerley has almost completed his feature wall.  Flowers are already appearing in the trough planted by Ruth Stevens at the end of October last year. This Sunday, there will be some wildflower planting alongside the Old George as well.  With preparation of the verges at Crosskeys now underway, Broadwindsor is set to look very pretty indeed.

Please telephone David Leader on: 01308 868275 or 07867 608652

Wall At Bernards’ Place Almost Complete

As the wall in Bernards’ Place nears completion, Chris Edgerly had some help at the weekend from Matthew and James Pickering of Broadwindsor. The boys each placed an ammonite into the wall as part of the montage Chris has created from the smaller ammonites donated.

The ammonite montage itself is now complete and Chris hopes to complete the whole wall by the end of this week, fair weather permitting.

Matthew & James
’ enthusiasm and involvement prompted a memory for Chris – he recalled from a young age when he was led up a ladder by a bricklayer to cement and lay his first brick. We hope that Matthew and James enjoy their memory and showing their friends with a sense of pride.

Well done all & Thank you.

A Request Re: Bernards’ Place

Chris Edgerley is making excellent progress building the wall by the play area in Bernards’ Place.  He is asking if anyone has a large ammonite or anything that could go into the wall as a feature, you will see the picture of the stone carved horse’s head which was donated and has been placed in the wall and is very impressive.

Also. . .

The Treasurer of the Comrades Hall Committee has need of a smart phone to allow him to do his online banking.  If anyone has a redundant one they no longer need and could donate – please get in touch asap. Telephone David Leader on: 01308 868275 or 07867 608652.  Thank you.

Help With Green Waste Needed

Chris Edgerley is making good progress working on the wall at Bernards’ Place.

There is some green waste that needs to be disposed of and they are appealing to anyone in the village community with green waste bins, which have space in them to bring them to Bernards’ Place so they can get rid of some of the waste.

Please telephone David Leader on: 01308 868275 or 07867 608652
