Broadwindsor Community Film Club In Need Of New Organisers

An announcement from our volunteers at Broadwindsor’s Commuity Film Club

We have been lucky as a village to have a monthly Film Club at the Comrades Hall for some years now.  There is a small team of volunteers who work behind the scenes so that we can deliver a film each month for everyone to enjoy.  However, after some consideration, both Emma Myers and myself have decided that after nearly 5 years of being involved in Film Club, it is time for us to step down, have a rest and give new volunteers the chance to keep this valued group going forward.
The new subscription year is due in November 2024, so the October film will be both mine and Emma’s last for the Film Club.

All of us in the film club team bring different skills to the table, whether it be technical support, organising admin, or running the bar and helping out on the night.  If anyone would like to be involved and join our film club team, please feel free to  contact either Emma (broadwindsorem@gmail.com) or Margaret (07796 454203) to see where your skills could be put to good use.

Lastly, I would like to express my personal thanks to all those in our film club team who have faithfully helped out over the years.  Let’s now look forward to the continuation of film club for everyone’s enjoyment.

Margaret Wing

Our sincere thanks to Emma & Margaret!

Anatomy Of A Fall (15)

Directed & Co-written by Justin Triet
Starring Sandra Hüller, Swann Arlaud, Milo Machado-Graner & Samuel Theis.
(Running time 2hrs 31mins)

An eerily riveting courtroom thriller that examines the line where truth becomes fiction and fiction becomes truth. When her husband Samuel is mysteriously found dead in the snow below their secluded chalet, Sandra becomes the main suspect, with their blind son facing a moral  dilemma as the sole witness, as the police begin to question whether he fell or was pushed  The trial soon becomes not just an investigation, but a gripping psychological journey into the depths of Sandra and Samuel’s complicated marriage.  With conflicting evidence and inconsistent testimony, words are wielded like weapons and shocking truths come to light in this thrilling Palme d’Or winner.

Wicked Little Letters (15)

Directed by Thea Sharrock
Starring Olivia Colman, Jessie Buckley, Timothy Spall & Anjana Vasan.
(Running time 1hr 40mins)

A 1920s English seaside town bears witness to a farcical and occasionally sinister scandal in this riotous mystery comedy.  Based on a stranger than fiction true story, Wicked Little Letters follows two neighbours: deeply conservative local Edith Swan (Olivia Colman) and rowdy Irish migrant Rose Gooding (Jessie Buckley).  When Edith and fellow residents begin to receive wicked letters full of unintentionally hilarious profanities, foul-mouthed Rose is charged with the crime.  The anonymous letters prompt a national uproar, and a trial ensues. However, as the town’s women, led by Police Officer Gladys Moss (Anjana Vasan), begin to investigate the crime themselves, they suspect that something is amiss and Rose may not be the culprit after all.

‘Belfast’ (12) – Drimpton 8th June, Broadwindsor 17th June

Written and directed by Academy Award winner Kenneth Branagh, starring Jamie Dornan, Caitriona Balfe, Jude Hill, Dame Judi Dench, Ciaran Hinds & Colin Morgan.

Belfast is a poignant story of love, laughter and loss in one boy’s childhood amid the music and social tumult of the late 1960s. Buddy’s family lives in a largely Protestant district with a few Catholic families, but one day his community and everything he thought he understood about life is suddenly turned upside down.  Buddy’s family gets caught in the mayhem and must decide to stay or leave the only place they have ever called home.  Through it all, his passionate parents (Caitriona Balfe and Jamie Dornan) and quick-witted grandparents (Academy Award winner Judi Dench and Ciaran Hinds) keep the joy alive through music and the magic of movies in this feel good story that reminds us that no matter how far you go, you never forget where you came from.
