Trampoline Club Opens Next Month in Crewkerne

Trampolining is an exciting sport which is both fun and challenging whilst developing strength, coordination and all-round fitness.

Just across the border in South Somerset, locally born coach, Jacob Turner, will be starting his own trampoline club. This will be based at Wadham School on the Yeovil Road in Crewkerne and classes will run from the middle of September for all ages and abilities.

Jacob is a young, dynamic coach has been coaching since he was 14 and has been training the South West squad for the last three years. In 2019 two of his athletes competed in the English and British championships.

“Accelerate Trampoline Club is led by highly qualified and experienced coaches. Partaking in our classes is a great way to have fun and develop trampoline skills whilst in a safe and monitored environment. Working with British Gymnastics, we will deliver socially distanced, safe and Covid secure sessions” said Jacob.

2nd Round of Grant Applications Now Open for the Self Employed

The Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) – the Government grant to self-employed individuals whose businesses have been adversely affected by coronavirus – is made up of two grants. The first grant closed on 13 July 2020, but the second and final grant opened for applications on 17 August 2020. The last date to apply is 19 October 2020.

You don’t need to have claimed the first grant to receive the second grant. And if you’ve claimed the first, you can claim the second as long as you’re still eligible.

The first grant is for those whose ‘business was impacted by Covid-19 before 13 July’, and the second is for those ‘impacted by Covid-19 on or after 14 July‘. If impacted before and after the dates, you are due both.

You need to apply via the official Government claims portal HERE. Not sure you’re eligible? The application will tell you if not.

To apply, or check, you need the following information:

  • Self-assessment unique taxpayer reference (UTR) – if you do not have this, find out how to get your lost UTR HERE.
  • National insurance (NI) number – if you do not have this, find out how to get your lost NI number HERE.
  • Government Gateway user ID and password – if you do not have a user ID, you can create one when you make your claim.
  • UK bank details (only provide bank account details where a Bacs payment can be accepted) including the: bank account number, sort code, name on the account, address linked to your bank account. IMPORTANT: You must make the claim yourself. Your tax agent or financial adviser must not claim on your behalf as this will trigger a fraud alert.

Not all self-employed people can access this help – for example, if you earn more than £50,000 a year, or if less than half of your income is from self-employment. If you don’t meet the eligibility requirements, unfortunately you won’t be able to claim, but there are other things you can try:
The Government small business bounce back loans can be used to SUPPORT YOUR INCOME, including for those with no other support (eg, newly self-employed, limited company directors). Since Monday 4 May, the new 100% state-backed bounce back loans, for up to £50,000, have been available. They’re interest-free and payment-free in the first year – so pay it off then and it’s no cost, and at a very low 2.5% annual interest after that.

What is happening in Bernards’ Place?

A water/cattle trough has appeared at the end of Bernards’ Place.  At this time, don’t know why, by whom or for what purpose . . . .

**Update: It’s intended to be a flower trough to brighten up the village 🙂 The intention is to use the soil which was collected from the tidy up day at Bernards’ place on 26th July”**

Beaminster School Goes Solar

When Beaminster School reopens on 7 September with its first full complement of students since last November, it will have in place a new source of electricity for lighting, computers and cooking, cheaper than power from the grid.

During the summer holiday, contractors for Dorset Community Energy are busy installing 112 kW of solar panels on five different parts of the school’s roof.
This project, costing about £80,000, is funded 60% by equity shareholders of Dorset Community Energy, and 40% by the Low Carbon Fund run by Dorset Council with money from the European Regional Development Fund.
The school will use most of the power from the panels, equivalent to the electricity needs of 30 households. Any surplus power at weekends or holidays will go to the grid.
A web-link will enable school staff and students to check performance of the panels and monitor the school’s use of electricity.
This is the first major renewable energy scheme in Beaminster – highly encouraging as the ECO Group campaign for energy saving and the creation of renewable energy in this area.

Get Your Ideas Included in the Government’s Transport Decarbonisation Plan

The Government is running a public consultation, which is actually a fairly short and friendly questionnaire. No expert knowledge is needed, and you’re not expected to write an essay – the spaces for answers are just few lines long, though they can expand if you have more to say.
The closing date to have your say is Monday, 31st August 2020. Your views will assist in drafting the plan, and deciding on the steps the Government take to decarbonise transport.

The current policies to decarbonise transport don’t go far enough.  Specifically, electric cars – while important – aren’t a silver bullet: we also need to be making fewer journeys by car and more by public transport, on foot and by bike.
At Campaign for Better Transport, they hope that as many people as possible will take this opportunity to speak up for sustainable transport. To show how much we care about buses, trains and trams, walking and cycling, car-sharing and zero-emission vehicles.   You can also remind the Government too that sometimes we’d like to travel less!  You can suggest whatever you want.

Take the Government survey HERE.

Please confirm to Campaign For Better Transport that you have completed the survey HERE.
