Collecting From Broadwindsor Community Stores

A message from the three wonderful ladies who organise our village shop’s Click and Collect service:

As we go into lockdown again, we want to reassure you that we are continuing to do our best to ensure our customers, staff and volunteers are safe, as we have done at Broadwindsor Community Stores since March 2020.

We will continue to offer our Wednesday Click & Collect service via broadwindsorcommunitystores.co.uk.

However, all collections will now be from Comrades Hall, except a 4pm collection from the shop reserved for working customers who cannot get to the hall before 1pm.

We anticipate that more people will want to use the service, so to provide a safer environment and to maintain a steady flow of customers, collection slots will be at fifteen minute intervals starting at 11:30am and finishing at 1pm.

Please pick up from the side door where we will hand over your order at the entrance. Some customers’ orders are quite large and they will need to take several bags to their car, so can we please ask all customers to wait until the previous customer has finished their collection before entering the porch by the side entrance. May we also ask you to wait in the doorway rather than come into the hall while we get your order ready?

As the Click & Collect service is as safe as can be and meets the needs of the vast majority of people we are not offering a full delivery service as we did in the Spring. However, if you are clinically vulnerable and have been advised to stay in your home,  please get in touch with us so we can arrange a delivery. The easiest way to do this is simply email: bwshop.orders@gmail.com

Let’s get through this together best we can. Stay safe.

– Nat, Sandra & Teri

Drimpton’s Bunting Bonanza

A colourful and commemorative idea from Drimpton promoting Village Community:

At some point we will emerge from Lockdown and once again be able to come together as a community. In anticipation of that, three ladies in Drimpton are planning to celebrate by decorating Drimpton with bunting made by the village.
So if you’re looking for something to while away a bit of time, why not tap into your creative juices and design one or more flags to represent you, your family, 2020, Drimpton, or anything else you fancy!
It can be drawn, painted, sewn, knitted (pattern below) glued, appliquéd or anything else you can think of – the choice is yours. There are no rules apart from the size (a triangle measuring 20cm x 30cm).
They hope to be able to have a coffee morning in March (restrictions permitting) where you can bring along your completed bunting flags. They’ll then take them away and stitch them together to create the commemorative village bunting that will be a lasting reminder of these extraordinary times for years to come.
For further details or queries (and bunting templates if required) contact:
  • Francesca – 01308 867617
  • Kate – 01308 868843 or
  • Rosemary – 01308 867694

COVID Vaccine at Bridport Wednesday, 6th Jan

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE.

The Covid vaccine clinic is still on this week at Bridport Medical Centre: on Wednesday 6 January. This is for patients who had their first vaccine on 16.12.20 . They have not been given enough warning by NHSE to cancel and rebook the clinic.
They will be ensuring future clinics will be arranged with up to 12 weeks between vaccine doses as per the change in guidance from NHS England. As a result they will be contacting those patients already booked in for their second vaccine on 20.1.21 to rearrange.
They will be inviting all patients in their network in the order of priority on the Gov.uk website, so please do not worry if you have not heard anything yet as they have not yet managed to call all of their patients who are over 80.
As you can understand this is a huge task to arrange whilst still continuing with all of their usual work so please bear with them – they endeavour to work hard and efficiently to provide a successful Covid vaccination programme in 2021.
If you are going to have your vaccination at Bridport Medical Centre, taking someone or know someone that is going that might not see this post – Please can you ensure you/they don’t arrive until 5mins before the slot. There has been a few issues with parking which has partly been down to people arriving early to their appointments.

Stay Safe!

Happy New Year!

Most of us will be at our own home as 2020 becomes 2021. Everything continues to be different.

Auld Lang Syne is traditionally sung in the village square where we all come together – this is not possible this year but somewhere, you may be able to hear the celebratory, nostalgic and hopeful tones of Auld Lang Syne being sung.
What does Auld Lang Syne mean? It literally translates as Old Long Since making reference to the “olden days”, particularly with friends.

Written as a poem by Rabbie (Robert) Burns (25 January 1759 – 21 July 1796) in 1788, it was put to the music of an even older folk tune.  The Scottish Bard used the Scottish dialect however here are the lyrics in an English, singable form:

Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne?

Chorus:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

And surely you’ll buy your pint cup!
and surely I’ll buy mine!
And we’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

Chorus:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

We two have run about the hills,
and picked the daisies fine;
But we’ve wandered many a weary foot,
since auld lang syne.

Chorus:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

We two have paddled in the stream,
from morning sun till dine;
But seas between us broad have roared
since auld lang syne.

Chorus:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

And there’s a hand my trusty friend!
And give me a hand o’ thine!
And we’ll take a right good-will draught,
for auld lang syne.

Chorus:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
for the sake of auld lang syne.

Happy New Year Everybody!

Stay Safe!
