Drimpton FC – Annual Awards

Drimpton Football Club held their Annual Awards last weekend at The Royal Oak in Drimpton.
Manager Andy Loudon and Chairman David Symonds both thanked the players and officials for all their efforts this season. The sponsors St Michael’s Trading Estate in Bridport were also thanked for their generosity in sponsoring the kit and training jackets.
The award winners were as follows :
  • Clubman : Rory Dodge
  • Young Player : Frankie Symonds
  • Chairman’s Player : Tom Franklin
  • Manager’s Player : Pawel Ciereszko
  • Player’s Player : Ryan Gay
  • Leading Goalscorer : Tim Hussey
  • Special Achievement Award for scoring his 500th Goal also went to Tim Hussey ( 516 goals )

Manager, Andy Loudon commented “Many thanks to everyone involved at this great club. Looking forward to next season for what we hope will bring continued success.”

Congratulations To The New Inn At Stoke Abbott & The Half Moon At Melplash

Announced earlier today, the New Inn at Stoke Abbott have won 1st place in the Pub category of Bridport Food Festival’s Local Food Group, Food & Drink Lockdown Hero Awards 2021. Kirsty & Kevin shared their joy on social media “We are feeling so happy with the news…. We would like to thank everyone who took the time to vote for us, it means so much that you all appreciate what we do.”
Runner up was the Half Moon at Melplash.  Both pubs are very popular venues with locals.

All were congratulated for “the service that you have given to the community during lockdown has been exceptional and made life for many much more bearable“.

Other winners included:

  • Washingpool Farm – Food/Drink Retail.
  • Dark Bear – Takeaway & Home Delivery.
  • Taj Mahal – Restaurant/Cafe

A special award for Outstanding Service went to The George at Chideock.

New Awards At Bridport Food Festival

Bridport Food Festival are pleased to announce their new ‘Lockdown Hero’ awards devised to recognise and say a BIG ‘Thank You‘ to the local food & drink businesses: cafes, restaurants, pubs, butchers, bakers, greengrocers, farm shops, market traders, etc., who have risen to the challenges of the pandemic and continued to feed us and provide us with much needed treats. Many have increased what they offer and have set up new, or adapted their services, to provide delivery and collection services.

Awards will be presented to six categories:

  1. Restaurants, Cafes & Tea Rooms
  2. Pubs & Bars
  3. Takeaway shops
  4. Food/Drink Shops, market stalls, Farm Shops
  5. Producers, wholesalers, Caterers
  6. Special Award for an outstanding service or offer from any of the above categories
You, their customers, are asked to nominate the businesses you feel have gone the ‘extra mile’ to offer either an extra or special delivery, service or product to keep everyone supplied with all those essentials or treats during the lockdown periods.
You are invited to nominate a businesses in each of the six categories. Voting is open now and will finish at midnight on 31st March 2021.

There will be a winner and runner up in each category, judged by the number of votes and quality of comments received. The winners will be announced in April 2021.

Bridport Food Festival was originally conceived by the West Dorset Food and Land Trust, with support from the Countryside Agency, The Marshwood Vale Magazine, Denhay Farms and Bridport Town Council, and was launched with the help of Hugh Fernley-Whittingstall in 2004.

Congratulations To Girl Guide Leader Emma House

As well as being at the helm of Broadwindsor Rainbows and Guide groups, Girl Guide Leader Emma House has been appointed the County Leadership Team‘s representative for Growth & Retention in Girl Guiding.

With more than 4,500 members, Girlguiding Dorset gives girls and young women space where they can grow, develop, build brilliant friendships, and make a positive difference to their lives and their communities. They may have been going for a long time but they continue to give girls and young women, of all backgrounds and faiths, an opportunity to make their voices heard so that they can realise their full potential to become dynamic members of the 21st century.

Girlguiding is split into four sections, depending on your daughter or the age of the girl.

The 1st Broadwindsor group offer:

  • Rainbows age 5-7
  • Brownies age 7-10
  • Guides age 10-14
  • West Dorset Rangers age 14-18

West Dorset Rangers Start 21st Jan

Spaces are available to join the 1st West Dorset Rangers who will be holding their first meeting via Zoom on Thursday 21st January.

If you are or have a daughter, grand-daughter, sister or girlfriend aged  14 – 18yrs who would like to join in please do get in touch! Start a new adventure for 2021!

Dorset Food Awards 2020

Dorset Magazine have opened their nominations for this year’s Food, Drink & Farming Awards.  There are 30 days remaining to vote.
Dorset Magazine’s Editor Helen Styles said “The Dorset Food, Drink and Farming Awards will celebrate the extraordinary men and women – farmers, chefs, bakers, butchers, tea shop owners to name but a few – who work so hard to put Dorset on the culinary map. Show your support for your local food, drink and farming heroes and nominate now!”
They are calling on their readers and businesses alike to nominate in these new-look awards, with new categories highlighting the current struggles and how businesses have adapted to the changes to the industry due to Covid-19.

The categories are:

  • Best Independent Food & Drink Retailer
  • Best Farm Shop
  • Food Producer of the Year
  • Drinks Producer of the Year
  • Entrepreneur of the Year
  • Community Food/Drink Initiative Award
  • Business Collaboration Award
  • Best Local Food/Drink Delivery Experience
  • Best Dining Experience to go
  • Chef of the Year
Understandably, they have had to adapt how they champion and highlight the region’s food and drink sector but they still want to celebrate the fantastic businesses on our doorstep serving us throughout Lockdown.
However, they have had to reassess their awards evening. For 2020, instead of their ceremony in September, they will be holding a winners’ celebration when it is safe to do so, post the announcement of their 2020 winners’ in the December issue of Dorset Magazine. They hope to come back bigger and better next year! As do we all!
