Clive’s Rib Night At The White Lion

Clive Dammert has already impressed locals and visitors alike with his delicious meals from the kitchen at The White Lion but this Friday brings something special! Clive will be cooking racks of ribs on his newly installed Braai.

  • One rack with chips is £15.95 (+- half kg).
  • 2 racks with chips is £27.95 (+-1kg).

Also available are their cocktails… including a ‘Rhubarb Fizz‘ – Gin, Prosecco & Rhubard Juice.

Celebrate The White Lion’s First Birthday…

…as a Community Pub.

Already, a year has passed since The White Lion re-opened with much celebration…

This Saturday there will be no dinner service but, from 7pm, a finger buffet will be provided by Kerry & Clive who have been excelling all expectations since starting at Easter 🙂

A press release issued yesterday has Chairman Rick Dyke commenting “It’s certainly been an eventful twelve months.“. Thanking the Staff family and the many volunteers, Rick went on to say “We’re delighted that Kerry and Clive have joined us, and we’re excited about the next stage of the White Lion’s progress into a pub that is widely renowned for the quality of its food.”

Ending on a cautionary note, Rick continued “As with the hospitality trade generally, we have seen electricity costs skyrocket over the past year.  To make matters worse, the electricity companies view the trade as a bad risk with many reluctant to even quote, whereas those who do quote clearly see it as an opportunity to charge what they like.
Despite this, support from central government is negligible. Somehow, these spiralling costs need to be met and ultimately, this has to be by the paying customer.  This is where the warm welcome becomes even more vital because without it and the atmosphere it helps generate, what future does the British pub have?”

On Friday 25th March from 6.30pm, you can celebrate Greek Independence Day with a choice of delicious traditional Greek dishes, cooked by local ‘chefs’ from our community…

Menu

Marinaded olives and flat breads

Choose from –

Moussaka (ground lamb and sliced aubergine, topped with a creamy béchamel sauce)
or
Stuffed Peppers (red and green pepper with rice, tomato, pine nuts and currants)
or
Beef Stifado (traditional Greek beef stew)
or
Braised Chicken (with orzo, feta and oregano)

Above served with potatoes cooked in the oven.

£10.00 per person, with profits to Save The White Lion

Add £5 for a Greek salad with green pepper, tomatoes, cucumber, olives, red onion and feta.

Congratulations To The New Inn At Stoke Abbott & The Half Moon At Melplash

Announced earlier today, the New Inn at Stoke Abbott have won 1st place in the Pub category of Bridport Food Festival’s Local Food Group, Food & Drink Lockdown Hero Awards 2021. Kirsty & Kevin shared their joy on social media “We are feeling so happy with the news…. We would like to thank everyone who took the time to vote for us, it means so much that you all appreciate what we do.”
Runner up was the Half Moon at Melplash.  Both pubs are very popular venues with locals.

All were congratulated for “the service that you have given to the community during lockdown has been exceptional and made life for many much more bearable“.

Other winners included:

  • Washingpool Farm – Food/Drink Retail.
  • Dark Bear – Takeaway & Home Delivery.
  • Taj Mahal – Restaurant/Cafe

A special award for Outstanding Service went to The George at Chideock.
