The Staff family at the White Lion Community Pub announced earlier “We’ve got a telly!”
“By popular request, we’re planning to show major sporting events which are on terrestrial television and involve the national team.
(But rest assured, your community pub is NOT becoming a sports bar and the telly will be put away when it’s not being used.)
First up is the World Cup!
We intend showing all the England games in the group stages at times shown below and when, we hope, England progress to the knockout stages.”
- Monday 21st November – England v. Iran
Live at 1pm. The pub will be open from 12 noon – 3pm.
Basket food will be available to order before kick-off and will be served at half time. - Friday 25th November – England v. USA
Kick off at 7pm.
Basket food will be available to order before kick-off and will be served at half time. - Tuesday 29th November – England v. Wales
Kick off at 7pm.
Customers can eat their fish and chips in the pub or order a basket meal prior to kick-off, which will be served at half time.
When England progress to the knockout stages, they will be playing in the last 16 on either Saturday 3rd December at 3pm or Sunday 4th at 7pm.
If having successfully overcome the opposition, England is involved in the quarter finals, these will be either Friday 9th December at 7pm or Saturday 10th at 7pm.
If they win their quarter final, England will play their semi-final on either Tuesday 13th December at 7pm or Wednesday 14th at 7pm.
The final is on Sunday 18 December at 6pm.

Andrew has a 2 tonne stone limestone slab from their farm quarry which he would like to sink into the ground and then attach an A1 size acrylic info board with a war scene and all the names of the soldiers from WW1 and WW2 from our parish ward (Blackdown, Drimpton, Seaborough, Burstock and Broadwindsor) 57 in all for a permanent memorial. The main photo shows the finished proof. This with one or two metal Tommy silhouettes.
