Village Recycling Update

The recycling bins for tetrapaks and aluminium foil items are moving from Redlands Yard to the Comrades Hall car park.

Please take your recycling there from now on.
Please don’t put any other items in these bins – it is very unpleasant for volunteers!!

…Talking of which they urgently need more. Recently, two volunteers have left and now there are slots for the upcoming months not covered.

If you are able, please help. It isn’t difficult or time consuming… a trip to Bridport. What it does mean is that this service, which is so important, can remain local.

Recycling At Redlands Yard

A message from Jackie Riley:

The recycling of tetrapaks and aluminium items has been going on for some years now with the help of six sets of volunteers managing a month every six months and has largely been working well with backup from Tony and I.

Recently I received a complaint as the bins were overflowing. It is vital if you cannot manage your month or even some of it to let me know so I can either swop you with someone else or step in and help. If this doesn’t happen then we have the situation we had last week with tetrapaks everywhere and a very unsightly situation. It is also a potential attraction to vermin even more concerning.

I would be delighted to receive the offer of help from more people so I have a bank of people to provide back up. All it entails is weekly emptying of both bins and at the end of your month a trip to Bridport recycling when you are heading that way to be environmentally friendly. Provision of two large bin bags and that is it!

Pegs have been provided to ensure the bin bags stay secure.

Becca’s New Shop In Bridport

Opened earlier this month in South Street, Bridport – Becca’s Fabric Larder.

Becca left Redlands Yard last August and has been working from her van ‘Florry‘ at markets and village halls. Now located at StudioOne, Becca stated: “The space neatly divides up to teaching & shop space. Great access, no steps or tricky slopes! If you haven’t said Hi yet, pop by. The shop is stocked up with goodies & all the essential cutting equipment, markers, pins, needles, rulers, wadding & ribbons. New fabrics arriving regularly and classes every week.
The class room has sewing machines if you need them, to save you lugging them from the car park. Any problems booking or you’d prefer to do it over the phone, please don’t hesitate to call.”

Leave No One At Home For Jubilee Picnic – Sunday, 5th June

As part of Broadwindsor Fun Group’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, they have launched a campaign ‘Leave No One At Home’ for their Great Jubilee Picnic on Sunday, 5th June, starting at 1pm.

Weather permitting and inside the Comrades Hall if wet, there will be tables and chairs outside and live entertainment will be provided by The Silver Lining band, playing your favourites from the 1950s and 60s.

Prizes for the Best Scarecrows and best in the Children’s Royal parade will be awarded.

You are invited to take your own food along or take advantage of the Stableyard’s Jubilee picnic boxes which contain enough to share and can be pre-ordered now.

More importantly, Broadwindsor Fun Group are about inclusion and are asking you to consider your neighbour or someone you know who may be unable to get to Bernards’ Place or who may not be able to prepare a picnic for themselves –

Do you have enough food to share to prepare a picnic for them or share a picnic box with?
Could they join your table for conversation and company?

Beaminster Upholstery Is At Redlands Yard

Opening on Tuesday, 24th May, Beaminster Upholstery is at Redlands Yard, Units 5/6.

Craftsman Mike Oaten has been doing upholstery for 35 years and repairing furniture for 18 years for a national insurance furniture repair company.
Most recently, Mike upholstered the bench, at no cost, made by Malcolm Heaver at the refurbished White Lion Community pub.

Mike‘s shop will have a few items for sale and a workshop where people can pop in to discuss projects and fabrics and sundries.

Kirsty has had her Wooly Wonders unit at Redlands Yard since last June but is already threatened with closure due to lack of customers.
Redlands Yard showed their support by posting this message:

“Our wonderful yarn shop here at Redlands Yard is proving popular on social media and with knitting stalwarts, but the current level of custom is not high enough to sustain Wooly Wonders as a business. We love having Kirsty here, with her fantastic knowledge and extensively stocked shop full of yarns and accessories, and we are keen to support niche businesses and interests such as this. However, if custom does not pick up, the shop will have to close. If you would like to see it stay open, please come along and support this excellent enterprise. Thank you.”

Broadwindsor village has a new Mobile Nail Technician – Leoni Rawle.

Leoni Rawle has lived in Broadwindsor for 19 years and is Mum to two grown up girls.
“I’ve worked in the care industry for many years and I’ve enjoyed having my nails done for many years too. I realised that many people enjoy their nails being done but are unable to get to salons for many different reasons – so I thought it’s a service I could offer people.”

Leoni qualified as a nail technician in September 2021 having trained locally under Toni Rodway, owner of The Painted Nail at Redlands Yard.

Make A Valentine Heart – Saturday, 5th February

At the Gallery Of Makers in Redlands Yard on Saturday, 5th February 2022 from 10am-1pm (Other times are now available) – Make your own driftwood heart for VALENTINE’S DAY.

You are welcome as an individual or with a partner or friend.

The cost of the workshop is £50 – to produce one individual (wall hanging) heart, approximately 55cm square in size.

During the workshop you will be using hand/air tools, to nail/screw wood/materials to each other. Using templates to help shape, then picking/sorting your own choice of wood/or other materials to make your own driftwood art.

Please be aware – Participants will be standing at a workbench (set at approximately kitchen counter height. should you require a stool or chair, please inform us at point of booking.

Please note: The end time of workshop stated, is an estimation depending on how many participants attend. Each participant’s payment is for one driftwood item to be made.
