Broadwindsor Fun Group Planning Meeting – 7.30pm Tuesday, 9th November

Fireworks this Friday – please come along!
Redlands Yard have made their car park available and there will be stewards on the road to guide you to the Cricket Ground. Hot soup, burgers, hot dogs, mulled wine and a bar too! Sorry no sparklers allowed but Glow Sticks will be on sale: 2 for 50p.

We would like to crystalise plans for the Jubilee weekend and have also started pencilling in dates for some fund raisers to enable a fun and varied selection of events to be held next year.

The Agenda is as follows:

Welcome by Chairman.
Fireworks event debrief. (Held in conjunction with Broadwindsor Cricket Club)
Christmas Party night – Saturday, 18th December.
A festive night of Christmas music classics to dance to from The Silver Lining Band. £8 for adults & £5 for under 18s (Price includes a plate of nibbles). Numbers are strictly limited for this fun festive event – so get your tickets, which will be available after this meeting at Broadwindsor Community Stores or ordered online via Broadwindsor.org.
Jubilee weekend 2022

Thursday evening – Beacon lighting at the allotments.
Friday – free.
Saturday – Family fun day & of music & children’s activities in Bernard’s Place until late.
Sunday – Reuse Bernard’s place for a lunchtime BYO picnic & early evening band, culminating with the announcement of scarecrow prizes & a big raffle draw.

Attic Gallery Furniture At Redlands Yard

Simon White, a carpenter of nearly thirty years has his business, Attic Gallery Furniture operating in the courtyard at Redlands Yard. From here he makes bespoke free standing and fitted furniture.

Simon trained as a carpenter in 1990, then from ’93 ran a small fitted furniture business in London called Made to Measure till relatively recently. During this time he commissioned numerous bookcases, wardrobes and other furniture across London and the South East.

It’s Christmas At Redlands Yard

Honouring their tradition of the last 30 years, Christmas arrived on 1st October at Redlands Yard and The Foxy Cottage!

As you’d expect with the current fuel situation and the way deliveries and drivers are situated at the moment, there have been delays with their stock. They have “a sprinkling of Christmas” on display now and hopefully it won’t be long until they are in Full Bling mode!

Wooly Wonders At Redlands Yard

This is Kirsty who opened her Unit, Wooly Wonders at Redlands Yard in June earlier this year.

Having Linda Paget‘s marvellous Stableyard restaurant outside provides the perfect setting for Kirsty’s weekly Knit & Natter afternoon sessions. An official Style Craft stockist, there is a fantastic array of beautiful yarns and either Kirsty or her knowledgeable staff are there to help.

Kirsty has recently brought in some new ranges of yarn that customers have been asking for, all with pattern support:

Sirdar Cashmere Merino Silk (£6.00 per 50g ball) 75% extra fine merino wool 20% silk 5% cashmere.
Sirdar Haworth Tweed (£3.79 per 50g ball) 50% merino wool 50% nylon.
Sirdar Supersoft Aran (£4.50 per 100g ball) 100% acrylic.
Hayfield Soft Twist (£3.00 per 100g ball) 90% acrylic 10% merino wool.
Hayfield Baby Bonus Spots (£3.00 per 100g ball) and is 100% acrylic.
Hayfield Bonus Chunky Tweed (£2.60 per 100g ball) which is 96% acrylic and 4% viscose.

Please Note: Commissions for Christmas are already being taken. These yarns need to be ordered now to ensure that they are ready in time.

Stableyard Restaurant Now Open

After closing due to Covid issues in the kitchen, Linda Paget and her team are pleased to announce they are open again from today 🙂

Stableyard Restaurant Closed

The Stableyard Restaurant at Redlands Yard has closed for approximately 10 days due to a positive Covid case in their kitchen.

They hope to be back open again towards the end of week commencing 19th July and will keep customers updated on social media with plans nearer the time.

Local Gallery Nominated For Award

The Gallery of Makers at Broadwindsor’s Redlands Yard has been nominated for an award in the Best Art Gallery group for Dorset & Somerset in the *Muddy Stilletos Awards 2021. Voting begins on Tuesday, 6th July. Click HERE to show them your support from that date.

Clare Colby at the Gallery of Makers has no rental space remaining but does run a Pop Up corner which is currently changed fortnightly. Clare is considering doing a Pop Up Gallery on Sundays. Father’s Day – Sunday 20th June

Honouring fathers and all things paternal, Father’s Day has been celebrated on the third Sunday in June since 1910.

The Stableyard Restaurant at Redlands Yard are offering all Dads:

Founded by the daughter of a U.S. Civil War Army veteran in 1910, in 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the third Sunday of June as Father’s Day. Then in 1972, President Nixon established a permanent national observance of Father’s Day to be held on the 3rd Sunday of June each year. The U.K. follows this observation.

A customary day for the celebration of fatherhood in Catholic Europe is known to date back to at least 1508 and is usually celebrated on March 19th, recognised as the feast day of Saint Joseph.

Germany marks Father’s Day on Ascension Day in May or June, 40 days after Easter, while Australia and New Zealand commemorate it on the first Sunday in September.

In Thailand, Father’s Day is celebrated on 5th December, the birthday of their late king who was considered the ‘Father of the Nation‘.

Russia continues a tradition from the Soviet Union of celebrating “Man’s Day” on ‘Defender of the Fatherland Day’ on 23rd February, which marks the first mass draft into the Red Army.

In addition to Father’s Day, International Men’s Day is celebrated in many countries on November 19th in honour of both men and boys.
