Leave No One At Home For Jubilee Picnic – Sunday, 5th June

As part of Broadwindsor Fun Group’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, they have launched a campaign ‘Leave No One At Home’ for their Great Jubilee Picnic on Sunday, 5th June, starting at 1pm.

Weather permitting and inside the Comrades Hall if wet, there will be tables and chairs outside and live entertainment will be provided by The Silver Lining band, playing your favourites from the 1950s and 60s.

Prizes for the Best Scarecrows and best in the Children’s Royal parade will be awarded.

You are invited to take your own food along or take advantage of the Stableyard’s Jubilee picnic boxes which contain enough to share and can be pre-ordered now.

More importantly, Broadwindsor Fun Group are about inclusion and are asking you to consider your neighbour or someone you know who may be unable to get to Bernards’ Place or who may not be able to prepare a picnic for themselves –

Would you be able to help them get there?
Do you have enough food to share to prepare a picnic for them or share a picnic box with?
Could they join your table for conversation and company?

Beaminster Upholstery Is At Redlands Yard

Opening on Tuesday, 24th May, Beaminster Upholstery is at Redlands Yard, Units 5/6.

Craftsman Mike Oaten has been doing upholstery for 35 years and repairing furniture for 18 years for a national insurance furniture repair company.
Most recently, Mike upholstered the bench, at no cost, made by Malcolm Heaver at the refurbished White Lion Community pub.

Mike‘s shop will have a few items for sale and a workshop where people can pop in to discuss projects and fabrics and sundries.

Win With Your Dog In A Group Photo – Sunday, 10th April

New Image Consultancy at Redlands Yard are adding locally made Designer Dog Accessories & Essentials to their lifestyle products on sale and are launching them this Sunday, 10th April by way of a competition.

For your dog, you can win a bespoke collar, lead and bandana. All you have to do is accept Joanna Medley‘s invitation to go along to Redlands Yard for 3.30pm on Sunday afternoon – remembering to bring your dog with you – and take part in a group photo.

The main photo shows Mopsy, Joanna‘s dog, who won 1st in Yearling class at Crufts last month, modelling products suitable for this year’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 8 weeks time.

Kirsty has had her Wooly Wonders unit at Redlands Yard since last June but is already threatened with closure due to lack of customers.
Redlands Yard showed their support by posting this message:

“Our wonderful yarn shop here at Redlands Yard is proving popular on social media and with knitting stalwarts, but the current level of custom is not high enough to sustain Wooly Wonders as a business. We love having Kirsty here, with her fantastic knowledge and extensively stocked shop full of yarns and accessories, and we are keen to support niche businesses and interests such as this. However, if custom does not pick up, the shop will have to close. If you would like to see it stay open, please come along and support this excellent enterprise. Thank you.”

Broadwindsor village has a new Mobile Nail Technician – Leoni Rawle.

Leoni Rawle has lived in Broadwindsor for 19 years and is Mum to two grown up girls.
“I’ve worked in the care industry for many years and I’ve enjoyed having my nails done for many years too. I realised that many people enjoy their nails being done but are unable to get to salons for many different reasons – so I thought it’s a service I could offer people.”

Leoni qualified as a nail technician in September 2021 having trained locally under Toni Rodway, owner of The Painted Nail at Redlands Yard.

Operating as Nailslz and with no salon overheads to consider… Leoni’s prices are competitive too,

Make A Valentine Heart – Saturday, 5th February

At the Gallery Of Makers in Redlands Yard on Saturday, 5th February 2022 from 10am-1pm (Other times are now available) – Make your own driftwood heart for VALENTINE’S DAY.

You are welcome as an individual or with a partner or friend.

The cost of the workshop is £50 – to produce one individual (wall hanging) heart, approximately 55cm square in size.

During the workshop you will be using hand/air tools, to nail/screw wood/materials to each other. Using templates to help shape, then picking/sorting your own choice of wood/or other materials to make your own driftwood art.

Please be aware – Participants will be standing at a workbench (set at approximately kitchen counter height. should you require a stool or chair, please inform us at point of booking.

Please note: The end time of workshop stated, is an estimation depending on how many participants attend. Each participant’s payment is for one driftwood item to be made.

Rainbows Over Broadwindsor

Social media was made brighter yesterday with many images of the beautiful double rainbows that covered our village. Visitor Scott Dutton and his wife parked their car in the village and enjoyed a lovely walk around the area and submitted these beautiful images of the rainbows.

An Incredible Evening

Approximately 500 people flocked to Broadwindsor’s Cricket Club Pavilion last night to watch Broadwindsor Fun Group’s organised Firework display led by village resident & member of Broadwindsor Fun Group, Andrew Hookings.

Stewards were in place and worked ‘flat out’ for 3 hours, continually guiding people and their families safely in and out of the grounds.

The Fun Group’s Food stall had some people queuing for 50 minutes before completely selling out of burgers and hot dogs, almost exclusively cooked by Vice-chairman, Martin Burt with his trusty meat thermomenter! Delicious hot soups and mulled wine also sold very well.
The Cricket Club’s bar sold out too, with a quick trip to the Co-op required to stock up!

All those involved under estimated the crowd who attended and this has been attributed to local advertising; no other local organised displays taking place; the forecast of dry weather and admission was free 🙂

Special thanks must go to Margery Hookings who raised an astonishing £743.07 in her special family collection bucket!

“Incredible. I can’t recall ever seeing that many people in the village” was one local comment made. David Leader, who worked with the BFG Core group on the food stall stated “I don’t think I have ever been involved in catering for so many people in such a short period of time.” Cars parking on the verges at Cross Keys and on the grass area at the front of Redlands Lane was not appreciated but thankfully were there for just one hour.

A favourable sky is expected for Broadwindsor Fun Group’s Fireworks event this evening, held in cooperation with Broadwindsor Cricket Club and sponsorship received from Cllr. Simon Christopher.

Admission is FREE. Donation buckets will be rattled 🙂
Pedestrian access from 5.30pm.
Redlands Yard (formerly the Craft Centre) are kindly allowing the use of their car park for those driving.
Stewards will be in place to guide you safely into and from the Cricket Club’s Pavilion Spectators area.
Please dispose of your rubbish sensibly and do not leave any behind.
Sorry – no Sparklers allowed!

A bar* will be available and the following will also be on sale from 5.30pm…
