Blue Full Moon on Hallowe’en

This Saturday we will see the second Full Moon of this month which gives it the name of a Blue Moon. The Moon does not appear blue in colour.Ā  What makes this event even rarer is that it will be seen in all parts of the world on Hallowe’en for the first time since World War II.

The entire 21st Century will see only six Halloween Full Moons: 2001, 2020, 2039, 2058, 2077, and 2096.

This Full Moon is known as The Hunter’s Moon or by others, Blood Moon. Traditionally, this time included hunting, slaughtering and preserving meats for use in the winter months ahead.

Vote for Matt!

Beaminster Young Farmers Club have issued this statement asking us all to vote for Matt Frampton.

“Please vote for our brilliant Matt Frampton to win the Heart of YFC award.
If it wasnā€™t for Matt Framptonā€™s enthusiasm and commitment, Beaminster YFC might have folded a few years ago. He is considered the heart and the soul of the club and his passion for YFC has extended to his involvement at County, Area and national levels too.
From taking on different roles and encouraging others to get involved, Matt is described as being everything that YFC is about. He is currently Chairman of Dorset FYFC and as part of the Dorset FYFC Executive committee in the last few years he has spearheaded such events as the County Ball and made Dorsetā€™s annual County Rally an event that is now shared with the public and raises funds for the Federation.
As County Chairman, he is described as approachable and always willing to listen, to learn and improve ā€“ and the best advocate for YFCā€™s values.
Mattā€™s commitment to YFC never waivers and even after his diagnosis and subsequent treatment for testicular cancer just before Christmas 2019, he still attended and led every County meeting.
Matt faced an intensive nine-week period of chemotherapy after it was discovered the cancer had spread but once again, he remained active in YFC, attending all meetings with a smiling face.
Mattā€™s battle with cancer and positive attitude inspired members of his County to pull together and launch a fundraising campaign to help raise awareness of the disease and show their support to their County Chairman.
There is no better reflection of Mattā€™s character and passion for YFC than in the huge response the County received off the back of such horrible news. The fundraising campaign raised Ā£7,300 for Orchid ā€“ a charity which funds research, awareness and support to save menā€™s lives from male cancer.
With grace, courage and enthusiasm Matt has shown the YFC community that when people support each other, the possibilities are endless.”

Vote for Matt HERE. Done it – Good Luck Matt!

Remember To Decorate Your Windows With Pumpkin Drawings

Monday 26th ā€“ Friday 30th October 2020 is Half Term week. Keep yourself and children occupied and get involved to help produce a colourful display of Pumpkin drawings in your windows for the week leading up to Saturday 31st October around the parish.

As Trick or Treating is to be discouraged, go out on Hallowe’en and see how many Pumpkin drawings in windows you can spot!

šŸŽƒ If you do have a real pumpkin outside your door for Hallowe’en – please remember pumpkins are food, especially to lots of the wildlife! Deer, squirrels, raccoons, possums, badgers, mice, rats, chipmunks, birds, bugs and more. Sticking them outside somewhere where wildlife can access them but do not bleach your pumpkins to make them last longer – you can try using vinegar. 1 part vinegar to 10 parts water will work just as well. We really DO NOT want our wildlife eating bleached pumpkins!Ā  šŸŽƒ

Halloween SuncatchersOther cheerful ideas like these Hallowe’en Suncatchers by #playathomemama_g, black cardboard cut out spooky shapes or white draped cloth can all add atmosphere to your windows!
Have Fun! Be Spooky! Be Safe!
