Widely anthologised, three published collections. “Technology Bytes Back” – 2018, “I’m in Love With My Barista” – 2019, His quest for love and ‘The One’ and his adventures in online dating have been the subject of many of his poems that now appear in his most recent collection “Love Hertz” – 30th January 2023, released concurrently with “Odin and The Mead of Poetry”.

Reviews for ‘Love Hertz’

  • “In Love Hertz, Peter expertly weaves eclectic reflections on the nature of human attraction with a finely wrought chronicle of his own lockdown quest to finally find, ‘The One‘.
  • Often tenderly romantic and touching, this collection is none-the-less consistently clear-eyed, idiosyncratic and surprising. If you thought poetry had already said everything there is to say about the vagaries of love, think again. Love Hertz is a celebratory, wide-ranging and ultimately redemptive collection that you will want to return to again and again – though possibly not quite at a frequency of 528 times per second. Recommended reading for anyone with heart. ”
Tim King. Poet, Bard, Host of Taking The Mic.
  • Peter’s poetry has always got to the heart of what it means to be human, and love is an intrinsic ingredient without which there would be no humanity. It’s what defines us, and Peter knows this. With poems of truth, honesty and tenderness, he paints pictures of love, both as a concept and as something incredibly real. These poems revel in the joy of a relationship, and in so doing, transmits that joy to the reader.”
Robert Garnham. Poet, Bard, Performer, The Professor of Whimsey.
  • “Beautifully honest, vulnerable and heartfelt. If Love were a book… This is it!”
Nicky Harris. Poet, Host of Poetika Collective.
  • “Heart-warming, life-affirming, occasionally rib-tickling, this is a collection to savour over and over again”
Jackie Juno. Poet, Bard, Host of Poets and Pints.

Midnight Chimes

Midnight Chimes

Hunters on near silent wings
pass like wisps of mist
undersides flashing briefly
in the light from the street
A gossamer spider thread
drifting on the breeze
briefly illuminated
A chromatic parabola
drawn by an eight legged artisan
A black cat on silent paws
does a double-take
At the sight of a poet
standing in slippers
listening to midnight chimes
The Great Bear
sits astride the White Lion
Rides this velvet sky
towards the promise of dawn

In Marshwood Vale…

In Marshwood Vale

Standing on Pilsdon Pen
the last twits of nighttime hunters
share the lightening sky
with the strident call of cockerels
who sense rather than see the day
A thick blanket of mist
sits across the low-lying land
A silver veil that muffles the senses
Somewhere a tractor and trailer
cross a rutted field
The load…
a rhythmic banging bass
behind the sweet notes of a wren
the first bird of the morning chorus
A Plover and a Crow add voices
to the waking auditorium
Spectral trees emerge slowly
from the cloying blanket of mist
Languid shanks of cable
span the gaps
in a line of skeletal poles
receding…
to the mist locked valleys below
A pale peach accent to the sky
hints at the possibility of dawn
Distant hilltops
poke like islands
from the waters
of a silent silver estuary
Stubborn mists
cling to the fields and trees
This gradual unveiling
This restoration of colour
to a silvered landscape
Is another extra ordinary day
for Marshwood Vale

A Poet In Residence In The Village – Peter Roe

Peter Roe was born and raised a ‘Northern Lad’ in Buxton in the Peak District. He served in the RAF and has had a career with computers and emerging technologies in education. He has lived in Dorset for nearly twenty years and recently moved into Cambridge Barn in Broadwindsor. Peter is a performance poet and writer, a self confessed “Nerd” and “Technology Geek”. He is co-host of Bridport’s spoken word event Apothecary and the Second Bard of Caer Dur (Dorchester).

He has two published poetry collections and has recently been short listed and Highly Commended for a third collection written during lockdowns. Both Peter’s previous collections sold out and his second collection was reprinted last November. “I’m in Love With My Barista” is by turns a funny and heart warming romp through middle England in pursuit of love, revolution and vegetable boxes. Peter is a frequent performer across the SouthWest and is currently organising a spoken word event at The Roman Villa in Dorchester for Dorset Museums.

Broadwindsor.org has three copies of  Peter Roe’s “I’m in Love With My Barista” to give away.
All you have to do is…
Craft a Haiku
…about Broadwindsor or Dorset… That’s three lines of 5, 7 and 5 syllables and submit to info@broadwindsor.org by the 23rd of July.

Peter was recently shortlisted and won a ‘Highly Commended’ in the Hedgehog Poetry Full Fat Poetry Collection competition. Upon leaving his old home last month, Peter wrote ‘In You I Live…’

That first night with you I remember laying here
Listening to the sounds
Soft noises
As you relaxed
Releasing the days tension
Alien to me then
But now familiar
A part of me
Your rhythm has become mine
The breath and pace in your day
Matched with my own
To feel so welcome
Accepted
To feel your presence
Your warmth
Was special
Now as I place my things In boxes and bags
Ready to leave you
Sounds have changed
Noises echo
I feel you are more distant
This is as it should be
I go now to a new home
I hope she is as kind to me
As you have been…
