A set of three keys with a leather tab was found outside Broadwindsor Community Stores earlier today. They are now in the shop waiting for their owner to collect 🙂 Photo for illustrative purposes only.
Many thanks to everyone in the village who has been using the Scout Post Christmas 2021 service so far which helps raise money for local scout groups.
Kevin and his team at the Broadwindsor Community Stores have been kindly hosting the yellow scout post box, and you now only have a few days left to post your cards. More HERE.
Final collections is on Saturday December 18th at 12 noon.
If you are interested to find out more about Scout Post, or to look at some of the statistics about cards being sent this year, please click HERE
If you are someone who regularly walks around the village anyway, perhaps you may be interested in volunteering to help out with some of the delivery of the Broadwindsorcards for Scout Post 2022?
Some local villages e.g. Stoke Abbott, Netherbury, Burstock didn’t have anyone to deliver cards there this year, so they were not included on the delivery schedule. Perhaps you might be able to volunteer to carry out scout post in those villages next year?
To find out more information about volunteering please get in touch with kirstyamoore@outlook.com.
Scout Post is run by Dorchester & West Dorset District Scout Council
Charity registration no: 1039833
A list of cards they are unable to deliver will be held until the 12th of January and listed on the District Website – click HERE.

The team at the local food bank in Beaminster were delighted to receive products given at cost by Broadwindsor’s Community shop.
Kevin Madder-Smith, manager at Broadwindsor Community Stores had the forethought to contact Beaminster Food Bank to ask which items they were in short supply of before purchasing their list through the shop’s wholesaler 🙂
A big thank you to all involved…
Reverend Jo Neary and the food bank volunteers who coordinated with the shop’s team, but most of all, you, the customers for your spare change. The contents of the pink piggy bank which sits by the till was turned into essentials which the food bank lacked and little treats for local families in need.
Due to the outbreak of Covid that has hit Broadwindsor, and surrounding villages, Andrew Hookings has decided to close The Comrades Arms this Friday (22nd) evening and to keep it closed until he opens again on Saturday 30th October at 6pm.
The Post Office Outreach service will continue to be in the downstairs Hall next Tuesday & Friday as usual. They will still ask people to wear face masks, keep doors open for ventilation and always ask everyone to maintain social distancing.
On Sunday 7th November from 12 noon a KNOCKOUT POOL COMPETITION will take place upstairs in the Lewesdon room at the Comrades Hall… in the Comrades Arms.
Opening it’s door tomorrow (Friday 1st Oct) at 6pm is The Comrades Arms in the Lewesdon Room, upstairs at the Comrades Hall in Broadwindsor.
Recently returned from France, village resident Andrew Hookings will be running the Comrades Arms as an individual, along with the support of volunteers. He did this several years ago, for a period of 4 weeks inbetween landlords Rich & Kate Moulsdale and Spike & Vikki who had the tenancy at The White Lion. It proved very successful and the proceeds, almost £2,000, went to the village hall.
Andrew commented: “The Comrades Arms will provide a venue in the heart of the community for people to get together socially and enjoy a drink, whilst the White Lion is closed. With the “Save The White Lion” campaign getting off the ground soon, it seems appropriate for the proceeds from The Comrades Arms to go to such a worthy cause.”
As well as being open at the weekend, the Comrades Arms will be open on a Tuesday evening for those who’d like to eat their fish ‘n’ chips from Nat’s van with a drink.
With some stock and supplies, £400 worth this week, being sourced through Broadwindsor Community Stores, our village shop should benefit too 🙂
Other ales and ciders have also been sourced locally.
It is hoped that you will be able to use your debit card tomorrow night but bring cash – just in case!
Village residents Andrew & Margery Hookings are expected back from France mid-month. Already getting things in place, Andrew Hookings will be re-opening the Comrades Arms in the Lewesdon Room, upstairs at the Comrades Hall on Friday, 1st October at 6pm.
Andrew, who was landlord of the Half Moon in Melplash from ’97-2000, will be offering local ales and ciders on Friday and Saturday evenings from 6pm and on Sunday afternoons from midday. He hopes to include Tuesday evenings to go alongside Nat’s Fish & Chip van. His other ideas include:
running Quiz nights on Tuesdays,
running a pool competition on Sundays,
organise some food evenings a couple of times a month with local ‘chefs’ producing some simple meals.
Andrew, who is Chairman of the Broadwindsor Community Stores Committee, a member of the Comrades Hall committee, a member of the Broadwindsor Fun Group and more recently, a member of the Steering group negotiating with Palmers re: the future of the White Lion stated that all profits will go the Save The White Lion fund. Previously, the Comrades Arms was open for 4 weeks prior to Rich and Kate taking on the White Lion and almost £2k was raised for the Comrades Hall.
Margery is running an Art Exhibition and Sale at Comrades Hall on Saturday, 16th October – Read more HERE.
** Now sorted – thank you **
Broadwindsor Community Stores have issued a plea to anyone who may have a copy of yesterday’s Sunday Telegraph newspaper. If you have read and finished with your paper – pleasecould you return your copy to the shop in order for them to give it to an elderly gentleman in the village who was unable to get his copy.
Most appreciated! Thank you.
