Comrades Hall AGM – Monday 26th April

Broadwindsor Comrades Hall AGM will be held on Monday 26 April, starting at 7 pm sharp, via Zoom. The first CHMC (Comrades Hall Management Committee) meeting will follow straight after, also via Zoom.

Membership of CHMC is open to all persons 16yrs and over. No previous experience is necessary just a desire to get involved with the Community to ensure that the village hall is there for all, for a long time to come.

We are currently exploring several major projects in the Hall and in the playground area Bernards’ Place. We have seen local people already start on these projects. More work will be necessary in the coming months so more Volunteers would be very welcome. Who knows, maybe your idea or expertise could be the one to help make these happen.

Happy Easter From The Heart

This beautiful photograph was taken by the owner of the hive. The beekeeper forgot to put the frames in which the bees collect honey, and the bees built their own architecture from the honeycomb, which takes into account natural ventilation, so that the air can flow freely and maintain a stable temperature. This is the heart.

Maundy Thursday

The Thursday before Easter is known as ‘Maundy Thursday’. It is remembered by Christians as the day of the Last Supper, when Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and established the ceremony known as the Eucharist. Jesus is believed to have washed the disciples’ feet before the meal in order to demonstrate the importance of serving others.

The word “Maundy” itself comes to us as an Anglo-French word derived from the Latin “mandatum,” which means “commandment.”

The night of Maundy Thursday is the night on which Jesus was betrayed by Judas in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Bernards’ Place Update

As always, Cllr. David Leader sends a huge thank you to all the wonderful people who turned up to help at Bernards’ place on Sunday morning.

Local Scout Groups Need Adult Helpers

Scout Groups welcome boys and girls from the ages of 5 ¾ to 14 years old. Lockdown has made everyone realise how important fun, activities and being part of a community is to us and to children. Both the local Scout groups that serve our parish are in need of Adult Helpers ready for when the groups restart. Active help. Committee help. General help. Assistant Leaders. All offers of help are appreciated.

The 1st Beaminster Scout Group:

Beavers: Age 6-8 on Mondays 5.30pm to 6.30pm
Cubs: Age 8-10½ on Mondays 6.30pm to 8.00pm
Scouts: Age 10½ – 14 on Mondays 6.30pm to 8.00pm

Are you, or someone you know, over 18 and wanting to give something back to our local young people by becoming a helper at the weekly sessions? Perhaps you are ready to take on some new adventures yourself!

Work Party Needed At Bernards’ Place This Sunday

Outside brushes and shovels will be the order of the day. Help is needed this Sunday, 28th March at 9am at Bernards’ Place in Broadwindsor. The plan is to tidy up the area and make it all look good for Easter!

Chris Edgerley has almost completed his feature wall. Flowers are already appearing in the trough planted by Ruth Stevens at the end of October last year. This Sunday, there will be some wildflower planting alongside the Old George as well. With preparation of the verges at Crosskeys now underway, Broadwindsor is set to look very pretty indeed.

Who Visits & Who Follows Broadwindsor.org? The Year In Review

It has been just over a year since Broadwindsor.org launched in response to the Coronavirus outbreak.

The aim always has been to provide the ever changing rules and information for local people within our village, the parish and to support local commercial businesses throughout the ongoing pandemic.

After one year, Broadwindsor can reveal the following fun facts & statistics – all of which are correct at the time of publishing:

The website, Broadwindsor.org now has 6,500 visitors each month.
On Twitter, Broadwindsor.org currently has 730 followers.
The Shrewsbury Morris Dancers whose mantra is “Dance, Have Fun, Laugh, Repeat” are Broadwindsor.org’s biggest follower on Twitter this month with 1.3K followers.
On Facebook, Broadwindsor.org has 750 followers.
Although almost as many followers on Twitter, Facebook refers 75% of visitors to the Broadwindsor.org website!
68% of visitors to Broadwindsor.org reside in the U.K.
28% of visitors to Broadwindsor.org reside in the U.S. of A.

After this last 12 months when everybody has suffered and struggled, Broadwindsor.org will now evolve into a new and independent, not-for-profit local community organisation – purely to generate enough revenue to cover the essential operational overheads in order to keep it going. The Editor’s labour continues to be voluntary.

Consequently, from April 6th 2021, all the commercial advertisers who are listed and have been promoted and supported on the website throughout this past year will be asked to pay £15 a year for their inclusion on the website’s local business listing page and with features throughout the year 2021 – 2022. Businesses will be emailed directly in due course.

£15/year works out as £0.04 per day.
Where else will you get such personalised advertising reaching all corners of the globe?
