Platinum Jubilee Fun Day A Success – Picnic Inside Today

Chairman of Broadwindsor Fun Group, Adrian Gray, his family and friends unwind at The White Lion after a successful Platinum Jubilee Fun Day.  Photographs will be uploaded later. Remember to tag your photos #BWFunDay.

We were blessed with dry weather 🙂 Today, however looks quite different… Today’s Platinum Jubilee Picnic at 1pm will now be held INSIDE the Comrades Hall and the Silver Lining band will perform on the stage.

Enjoy a Cream Tea In The Churchyard This Afternoon

As part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, St. John the Baptist church are offering a Cream Tea this afternoon in the churchyard from 2pm until 5pm. £2.50 entrance fee.

All weekend, the chuch have memorabilia on display together with beautiful floral arrangements – be sure to call in.

  • Thursday 2nd: 4pm – 12 midnight
  • Friday 3rd: 4pm – 12 midnight
  • Saturday 4th: 11am – 12 midnight

Broadwindsor’s Jubilee Beacon – TONIGHT, 2nd June, 9.15pm

Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations for the weekend begin tonight with the lighting of the Beacon.

The photograph shows the ironwork created and donated by village resident & craftsman, Rob Hedditch. This will be attached to the pole of the beacon before it is lit this evening. Thank you to Rob!

Tilly Jardine will be performing on her bugle. Pip Cadwell, caretaker of the beacon since 1997 will light it 🙂

The newly formed Broadwindsor Platinum Jubilee Choir will have their debut performance singing ‘A Life Filled With Grace‘ simultaneously  with choirs around the world at 9.45pm. They will perform it again on Saturday afternoon.

The specially prepared Beacon tarts (learn more HERE) will be available at The White Lion afterwards for a free tasting – it is on a first come, first served basis so be quick!

Note: there are not many Souvenir Programmes left – some in the pub and the last delivery was made to the shop yesterday! The Chairman will have some on sale tonight.

#BWFunDay – Share Your Jubilee Photographs On Instagram

Broadwindsor Fun Group are asking you to tag your photographs of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations with #BWFunDay to share on Broadwindsor’s Instagram site – HERE 🙂

Village resident Annie Collins takes spectacular photographs of almost anything that moves and that includes you! Annie will be Broadwindsor Fun Group‘s official photographer over the full Jubilee event so do not be surprised if you see her all over the place including up the church!

Particularly on Saturday, 4th when many families & people will be celebrating, please let Annie know if you do not wish you or your child to be included and this will be accommodated to the best of her ability.

Some of Annie’s work will be on display inside the Comrades Hall and Annie’s photographs will available to purchase:

The Bunting Is Up!

Our village is preparing for next weekend’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations and began today by putting up the bunting around Bernards’ Place, inside and outside of the Comrades Hall, up the High Street, on the railings at Trusthams and down Back Lane as well as around the Square into West Street. Almost 2,000 triangles… 950 metres of it….

Chairman of Broadwindsor Fun Group, Adrian Gray said “Our thanks to all those that turned out to put nearly a km of bunting up. It took nearly four hours but has made the village look great.”

Not one bit of plastic in sight – all the bunting has been made using recycled bed sheets, duvet covers, curtains and pillowcases. Stitched together by helpers ranging from an 80 year old tailor to Broadwindsor’s 1st Rainbows 🙂

A huge thank you to everyone who was involved – be proud of this accomplished monumental and sustainable task!

After the Jubilee celebrations, the bunting will be available to other village groups wishing to use it for their celebrations in the future.

The Broadwindsor Fun Group are hosting the Great Jubilee Picnic from 1pm on Sunday, 5th June in Bernards’ Place as part of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

The event invites you to bring your own food and to leave no-one at home!  If you are unable to prepare or just fancy the treat… Linda Paget from the Stableyard Restaurant at Redlands Yard is providing Great Jubilee Picnic boxes for you to enjoy/share at a cost of £12 per box.  Pre-ordering before 31st May will cost you only £10, saving you £2 🙂

Easter Bingo – This Friday, 8th April

Friends and families of the unit are invited to join Broadwindsor’s 1st Girl Guides Group at the Comrades Hall for a fun evening of Bingo on Friday, 6th April at 7pm.  Eyes down at 7.30pm.

Refreshments will be available and the Comrades Arms will be open upstairs.  There will also be a raffle.

Broadwindsor Fun Group Secures Funding For Jubilee

Some good news for our village received today 🙂

I am more than pleased to announce that after much hard work by the Broadwindsor Fun Group committee, particularly Wendy and Michele, we have secured a  grant from the Community Foundation  Let’s Create Jubilee Fund which was oversubscribed by five times the amount available. This award of £5000 will go a long way to our Jubilee plans. We have already earmarked a considerable part of this towards updating Comrades Hall sound system and this was something I was pleased to discuss with David Leader several weeks ago. No doubt he would have been more than pleased to know that our bid was successful.

However, whilst this grant will assist greatly we do still need people to staff stalls and help with a shift working at the bar & BBQ. Please make contact if you can assist.
