Vote for Matt!

Beaminster Young Farmers Club have issued this statement asking us all to vote for Matt Frampton.

“Please vote for our brilliant Matt Frampton to win the Heart of YFC award.
If it wasn’t for Matt Frampton’s enthusiasm and commitment, Beaminster YFC might have folded a few years ago. He is considered the heart and the soul of the club and his passion for YFC has extended to his involvement at County, Area and national levels too.
From taking on different roles and encouraging others to get involved, Matt is described as being everything that YFC is about. He is currently Chairman of Dorset FYFC and as part of the Dorset FYFC Executive committee in the last few years he has spearheaded such events as the County Ball and made Dorset’s annual County Rally an event that is now shared with the public and raises funds for the Federation.
As County Chairman, he is described as approachable and always willing to listen, to learn and improve – and the best advocate for YFC’s values.
Matt’s commitment to YFC never waivers and even after his diagnosis and subsequent treatment for testicular cancer just before Christmas 2019, he still attended and led every County meeting.
Matt faced an intensive nine-week period of chemotherapy after it was discovered the cancer had spread but once again, he remained active in YFC, attending all meetings with a smiling face.
Matt’s battle with cancer and positive attitude inspired members of his County to pull together and launch a fundraising campaign to help raise awareness of the disease and show their support to their County Chairman.
There is no better reflection of Matt’s character and passion for YFC than in the huge response the County received off the back of such horrible news. The fundraising campaign raised £7,300 for Orchid – a charity which funds research, awareness and support to save men’s lives from male cancer.
With grace, courage and enthusiasm Matt has shown the YFC community that when people support each other, the possibilities are endless.”

Vote for Matt HERE. Done it – Good Luck Matt!

Join in with Advent Windows

Last month Rev. Jo put out her idea for having Advent Windows for the month of December.  Beaminster Team Churches are now promoting the event.  Read everything you need to know HERE.

If you live in Drimpton or Broadwindsor please email Rev. Jo Neary, revneary@gmail.com to register your interest. If you live in another village then you will need to get a group of people together to organise your own event but please let her know if you are joining in so you can be included and publicised.

Please sign up for your carol by Friday 23rd October allowing time to fill in any gaps. Spread the idea far and wide as some more people need to be recruited.
On Monday 2nd November the list will be confirmed, giving everyone four weeks at least to prepare their window. If there are fewer than 24 houses taking part then the Advent trail will start later in the month so that the last window is still lit on day 24.

1st Mosterton Scout Group

A message from Group Scout Leader, Susanna Newall –

I recently read an article about people who make ‘apps’ for mobile phones, I-pads and other modern paraphernalia that apparently we all can’t do without.
The most successful ‘app’ builders aim their product very cleverly at their target audiences – not by extolling the virtues of what the app can do – but by how the app makes the user feel.
When I was asked to write about what we do in 1st Mosterton Scouts, I made a big long list of all the amazing activities that we do as a Group every week. After the second page of A4, I thought you’d all be a bit bored by the time you got to the bottom and then I remembered the article I read.
If I was an ‘app’ builder (and as much as part of me knows that would give me massive street cred. with my children, the other part is very relieved I’m not!) I would tell all the children that by joining Scouts at 1st Mosterton Scout Group – this is what you will feel and experience and learn:
Laughter, fear, bravery, awe, tiredness, reflection, curiosity, fright, confidence, concentration, camaraderie, independence, socialising, apprehension, close and long-lasting friendships, courage, tenacity, perseverance, enchantment, accomplishment, love, pride and empathy. Oh – and more laughter –much, much more laughter!
So as much as plate-spinning, light aircraft flying (really!) kayaking, cooking on an open fire, archery, bouldering, tightrope walking and hosting a local radio show won’t help a child pass the next level on a computer game, we can help equip a child with the other important life skills like those above.
We can help them get the most out of the world around them and have the belief in themselves so that they are happy children growing into happy young adults.
That’s what Scouting is all about and I am very proud to be part of such an amazing team of volunteer leaders and supporters at 1st Mosterton Scout Group who give their time freely to teach the children these skills.

We meet every Monday normally and are open to both boys and girls in three different sections:

Beavers: aged 5 ¾ to 8 years inclusive – normally meet 4.45pm to 6.00pm.
Please call Gill on 01308 868419

Cubs: aged 8 to 10 ½ years inclusive – normally meet 6.00pm to 7.30pm.
Please email Cathy on cathy.mostertoncubs@gmail.com

Scouts: aged 10 ½ to 14 years old inclusive – normally meet 7.30pm to 9.00pm.
Please email Chris at emmerson1@googlemail.com

In these current times, we need fresh air, friends and fun – come and join us in 1st Mosterton for all these!

Susanna Newall, Group Scout Leader. 1st Mosterton Scout Group.

Draw A Pumpkin for Your Window in Half Term Holiday

The following idea is becoming increasing popular through the social media platform Facebook – there is no indication of who first posted the idea but perhaps they had inspiration from Rev. Jo with her Advent Window Trail.

Monday 26th – Friday 30th October 2020 is scheduled to be Half Term Holiday week with Hallowe’en on the Saturday.  With Covid-19, Government restrictions and common sense – Trick or Treating is not an activity to do this year.

Draw a Pumpkin!

Draw a pumpkin for Hallowe'enThere appears to be a lot of enthusiasm generated already – let’s have our parishioners, young and old join in and put a Pumpkin drawing in your window this October.  A reminder will be published a few days before 🙂

Take Part In An Advent Window Trail This Christmas

Our lovely Rev. Jo has had the most lovely, community spirited idea and needs your participation for the project to be a success. Here are her words:

Something I had been thinking about for Christmas was a community activity that wouldn’t be Covid 19 sensitive. It is unlikely, I think, that we will be singing carols in the pub this year for example and our community carol services in church would need to be different too. I wondered about an Advent Trail around the village with different window displays every evening in Advent.

If you have a little search around the internet you will find many different Advent calendar ideas from beach huts in Brighton to windows around villages in Nottinghamshire and everything in between. Perhaps if we choose a theme, maybe Christmas carols, make a list of 24 and then families volunteered to decorate a window according to the theme. Then every evening in Advent, perhaps as early as 4pm, the new window was lit up so we could come and look on our evening strolls.

You would need a window visible from the street, as we don’t want to encourage people to walk up drives, but I think we probably have lots of visible windows in Broadwindsor and Drimpton. The final window, 24, probably should be at the church.  I’m happy to coordinate the idea but need a bit of local interest to make it succeed. If you think you would like to be part of an Advent Window Trail this December in either Broadwindsor or Drimpton then send me an email to revneary@gmail.com and we can get planning.”

Broadwindsor Fun Group Seek Officers

Broadwindsor Fun Group are holding an Extraordinary General Meeting on Thursday, October 1st 2020 at 7pm in the Comrades Hall. This is an Open meeting and interested parties from Broadwindsor and Hursey are invited to attend.

However, due to Government Covid-19 restrictions and social distancing, there will be a limit of 30 attendees.
Current members who are couples have been respectfully requested to send only one to represent them allowing space for others to attend.  On this occasion, anyone wishing to go along MUST register their interest to bwfunday20@gmail.com so that numbers can be monitored.
For those unable to, who have constructive comments and/or ideas are asked to please submit them to the Fun Group email so they can be addressed at the meeting.

The Broadwindsor Fun Group formed last year following the dissolution of what was known in the village as the Jubilee Group, to continue the annual Fun Day with its Scarecrow competition in June each year and hold fun, fundraising events throughout the year to make it all happen.  Although the entertainment and events for 2020 were all in place  – everything had to be cancelled.

Saturday, June 12th 2021 is the date planned for Broadwindsor Fun Day next year.

At the meeting on October 1st, the positions of Chairman and Vice-chairman are to be elected, who’s first duties will involve discussion and agreement to form a Constitution describing the Group’s purpose and to define the duties and responsibilities of the elected officers and members in a clear and concise manner. The template for next year’s events are in place and the accounts have been audited.

All annual events require planning, active support and participation to make it a success – Broadwindsor Fun Group is counting on you! Please contact: bwfunday20@gmail.com.
