NHS Charities Together – COVID-19 Community Partnership Grants

The Community Partnership Grants Programme recognises the vital work that voluntary and community groups deliver in community settings to support the work of the NHS and the health of local communities who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Summary criteria

Eligible local voluntary sector groups may apply for a grant of up to £4000 to be spent within 1 year.

Successful grants may not be awarded until February 2022. This is due to the scale of funding being awarded across the UK and the process to seek final approval from NHS Charities Together.

Applications must meet three essential criteria:

  • Results in measurable improvement in health outcomes for communities adversely affected by Covid-19
  • Involves a partnership or relationship with NHS practitioners who will be able to endorse your group and describe how the work directly supports the NHS by delivering support to residents in the community
  • Leads to a direct, positive impact on the NHS whilst it responds to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Priority weighting will be given to applications that address health inequalities which have been exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Applicants are required to include details of a referee in their application. This individual should be an NHS practitioner with a professional relationship and knowledge of the applicant organisation, who will be able to describe how the work to be funded will support NHS services. For example, referral pathways, social prescribing, or how the work will reduce pressure on NHS provision.

How to apply:

All applicants must read the Full Fund Criteria: Click HERE.

If you are unsure about any of the above criteria, pre-application advice is available from Grants Manager, Ellie Maguire on 07592 032666 or at grants@dorsetcf.org

Application deadline: midday on Friday 15th October

Letter Of Thanks To Fun Day’s Community

Good afternoon, my name is Kate Staff and I held the cake raffle at Broadwindsor’s Fun Day.
I would like to thank everyone that supported me in raising money.
My aim was not only to raise funds but also to raise awareness. I had never heard of TS (Turner Syndrome) until my daughter Louise was diagnosed at the age of 18yrs.
As a child she suffered and encountered numerous difficulties both physical and emotional some of which will be with her for life and if an earlier diagnosis was made she would have had a completely different childhood/education and friendships would have been a lot easier as she wouldn’t have felt as if she didn’t belong or fit in.
It was just by chance that our GP suggested she should be tested for TS and after reading all the signs and symptoms of TS, I was stunned to realise that Louise had roughly 80% of them. All of which were not detected by doctors/nurses/ENT specialists but most of all me!
I carry a strong feeling of guilt, that as her mother I didn’t do enough, as I always knew she wasn’t like other children her age and thought she may be on the lower end of the spectrum scale but then again no 2 children are the same are they?!
I have questioned myself over and over again “Why didn’t I know? Why didn’t I do something?” I can only put it down to lack of knowledge across the board so raising awareness has become very important to me. It won’t change things for Louise but if the signs and symptoms are known and talked about it might help others to get diagnosed earlier.

Thank you everyone 🦋 x

What’s On…

As Covid restrictions are generally lifted in most places, more Groups and Associations are feeling confident to hold their meetings in halls rather than on Zoom and arrange their fundraising events.

Broadwindsor.org has introduced a new What’s On This Month page on the website making activities easier to read rather than try to remember what the post said.  Listing all local events, meetings, film clubs and activities of interest to the parish.  Other months are included – just needs more content from you lovely people.

Adding your Listings to What’s On is free 🙂

Send your details to info@broadwindsor.org or

The Comrades Arms – Open Friday 1st October

Village residents Andrew & Margery Hookings are expected back from France mid-month.  Already getting things in place, Andrew Hookings will be re-opening the Comrades Arms in the Lewesdon Room, upstairs at the Comrades Hall on Friday, 1st October at 6pm.

Andrew, who was landlord of the Half Moon in Melplash from ’97-2000, will be offering local ales and ciders on Friday and Saturday evenings from 6pm and on Sunday afternoons from midday.  He hopes to include Tuesday evenings to go alongside Nat’s Fish & Chip van.  His other ideas include:

  • running Quiz nights on Tuesdays,
  • running a pool competition on Sundays,
  • organise some food evenings a couple of times a month with local ‘chefs’ producing some simple meals.

Andrew, who is Chairman of the Broadwindsor Community Stores Committee, a member of the Comrades Hall committee, a member of the Broadwindsor Fun Group and more recently, a member of the Steering group negotiating with Palmers re: the future of the White Lion stated that all profits will go the Save The White Lion fund.  Previously, the Comrades Arms was open for 4 weeks prior to Rich and Kate taking on the White Lion and almost £2k was raised for the Comrades Hall.

Margery is running an Art Exhibition and Sale at Comrades Hall on Saturday, 16th October – Read more HERE.
