There are still tickets remaining for the Artsreach presentation of ‘The Devil’s Violin – The Beast in Me‘ on Sunday, February 20th at 7.30pm at Drimpton Village Hall.
Imagine a world where the lines separating humanity and animals have blurred, in which dark forests contain refuge as well as danger, and where blood is not always thicker than water…
‘The Beast In Me‘, is a masterfully woven tapestry of stories from long ago about our perception of beauty and the value of kindness. Epic narratives are evocatively brought to life by master storyteller, Daniel Morden, and with sublime stringed accompaniment from virtuoso musicians Sarah Moody (cello) and Oliver Wilson-Dickson (violin).
Expect a charming, chilling and thrilling evening’s entertainment: “A scintillating combination of music, sound and story” – The Times.

A new exhibition has opened at the Yarn Barton Centre in Fleet Street, Beaminster, featuring the work of Broadwindsor Art Friends – Donna Heys, John Iveson, Liz Ridley, Norma Roberts, Dorothy Rowe and Dave Shaw.
They are a small group of friends who are also amateur artists. They meet in a studio on a very informal basis twice weekly, to paint, draw or work on any individual project they choose.
There is no fee involved, nor tuition – just a group of friends drinking copious amounts of coffee and having a chat.
The friends all recognise that without a set session time, creativity would take a back seat to other parts of their lives in general.
Having these meeting times ensures they set aside time to enjoy their art. And of course they share ideas and ask advice of each other.
The Save The White Lion crowdfunder has successfully achieved the target of £30,00 and stands at £33,490. The Crowdfunder campaign continues ’til Wednesday 9th February.
Chairman of the White Lion Management committee, David Leader has delivered the follwing statement:
“The fundraising has been simply incredible, to raise such a fantastic sum in such a short period of time clearly demonstrates that our community wants the White Lion back in the heart of our village. We are all acutely aware of the responsibility we have to make this work for everyone. We are all working tirelessly to create a welcoming pub for everyone.
The legal process of securing a tenancy is a bit like buying a house we have exchanged contracts and we now have to complete. There is still a bit of legal toing and froing to get through and then we should be there and the keys are ours.
The selection process for the pub manager and chef is going apace, candidates have prepared a meal for us so we can judge their culinary skills. We hope to complete this process shortly.
Once we have completed the legal process and have the keys we will start on the refurbishment and stocking the kitchen with the right equipment.
Our aim is to be open for Easter, I know there is many a slip between cup and lip, but that’s the target.
As always we will keep you informed of developments, thank you very much for all your support – this will become truly a community pub run by the community.”
Once reaching the target of £30,000, The Save The White Lion campaign has hit the media the past few days, featuring in the Dorset Echo, the Bridport News and on Dorset Live. Today, they featured on BBC‘s lunchtime edition of Spotlight…it is hoped that it may get more air time in this evening’s edition at 6.30pm.
…and it did…
The Crowdfunder campaign runs until 9th February.

The Save the White Lion Crowdfunding campaign has achieved it’s target of £30,000.
The following statement was released:
“This is a real testament to the power of a close-knit, caring community in which good things happen. Thanks to you, we can now sign a tenanacy agreement with the brewery and get the refurbishment done. If all goes according to plan, we hope to open the doors of The White Lion well in time for Easter. Additional money raised above the £30,000 target will help woth additional working capital and give us a good start on sprucing up the courtyard garden in time for the summer season.
In the meantime, take a collective bow. Thank you to all of you. you’re phenomenal!”
The crowd funding campign to Save the White Lion pub currently stands at £23,300 after receiving £5,000 match funding from ‘Power to Change‘.
