Bernards’ Place Wall Prepared

Parish Councillor David Leader, Chairperson of the Comrades Hall committee led a work party yesterday afternoon and issued the following statement together with the photographs:

I have just got back from today’s work party at Bernard’s Place. We started working in freezing temperatures but it did warm up to minus 1. Today we were preparing the wall for renovation. This challenging project is being undertaken by Chris Edgerley who is providing all his time free of charge saving the hall committee many hundreds of pounds. We simply can not thank him enough.

Wall at Bernards PlaceToday we cut the overgrown hedge on the top of the wall back, cleared built up soil and removed loads of ivy. The wall is falling down and we have had to cordon the wall off to prevent any accidents. Please do not go inside the cordon. It is clearly marked with cones and tape.

All the essential work was carried out by Chris, Stefan, Amanda, Daren, Margaret, Sally, Bob, John and myself. To these intrepid volunteers I extend a massive thank you, community spirit at its best.

All the work was carried out with rigid social distancing. Hope everyone has a good weekend and stays safe in these difficult times.

With kind regards

David Leader
Chairperson, Comrades Hall

Wall Repair At Bernards’ Place – Help Needed

Village resident, Chris Edgerley regularly volunteers at our Community Stores. He has very kindly volunteered to repair and repoint the wall to the North West of Bernards Place. This wall is in a very poor state of repair and has become a hazard.

Cllr. David Leader stated:This is a fantastic undertaking by Chris and will save the hall many hundreds of pounds. There is some preparatory work that needs to be done for which we need a work party. The work shouldn’t take more than a couple of hours providing we get enough helpers. Can I please suggest Saturday the 9th January as the weather is looking dry if cold with a 10.30am start.  We need to:

  • get the remaining ivy off the wall,
  • cut the hedge back that is on top of the wall and
  • clear accumulated soil from the side of the wall and from the back of the kitchen.

The more helpers we get the quicker we will get it done.

All will remain socially distanced and comply with other Covid advice, although being outside will aid this.

Please contact David Leader on 01308 868275 or 07867 608652.

COVID Vaccine at Bridport Wednesday, 6th Jan

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE.

The Covid vaccine clinic is still on this week at Bridport Medical Centre: on Wednesday 6 January. This is for patients who had their first vaccine on 16.12.20 . They have not been given enough warning by NHSE to cancel and rebook the clinic.
They will be ensuring future clinics will be arranged with up to 12 weeks between vaccine doses as per the change in guidance from NHS England. As a result they will be contacting those patients already booked in for their second vaccine on 20.1.21 to rearrange.
They will be inviting all patients in their network in the order of priority on the Gov.uk website, so please do not worry if you have not heard anything yet as they have not yet managed to call all of their patients who are over 80.
As you can understand this is a huge task to arrange whilst still continuing with all of their usual work so please bear with them – they endeavour to work hard and efficiently to provide a successful Covid vaccination programme in 2021.
If you are going to have your vaccination at Bridport Medical Centre, taking someone or know someone that is going that might not see this post – Please can you ensure you/they don’t arrive until 5mins before the slot. There has been a few issues with parking which has partly been down to people arriving early to their appointments.

Stay Safe!

Tell Dorset Council Your Thoughts On Their Climate and Ecological Emergency Strategy

Originally published on 17th November, Dorset Council are still looking for people to give them feedback on their plans to tackle climate change.  Responses must be in by Wednesday, 20th January 2021.

Climate and ecological change is the greatest existential threat we have ever faced. The great majority of scientific evidence, built up over many years, shows that the planet is getting warmer and that human activity is the main contributor to this warming.

Their work to help tackle the problem in Dorset is incredibly important. Just sitting by and letting others address this crisis is not an option. We need to work together to overcome this monumental challenge. What we all do – or don’t do – to address this climate and ecological emergency will impact our children, grandchildren and every other generation for centuries to come.

If you haven’t done so already, please take the time to read their strategy and action plan, HERE and then let them know what you think HERE. You don’t have to answer every question and you can save your progress so you can come back later to complete.

Broadwindsor Rainbows, Brownies & Guides Recycle

With more takeaway meals being bought and delivered, there are many more plastic containers accumulating in homes.  Emma House at Broadwindsor’s 1st Rainbows, Brownies & Guides has a request:

In the interest of recycling and reusing, if anyone has any small lidded tubs maybe from the takeaways etc. they would otherwise throw away – I would love to take them off your hands. They will be ideal for putting individual quantities of things in!
Thank you in advance!
Please contact Emma by email: 1stbroadwindsorrainbows@gmail.com to arrange collection/drop off.

Congratulations Rev. Jo, Dani & Jo!

These lovely, brave, some may say crazy ladies confronted the New Year’s Day elements and undertook their planned swim at Lyme Regis beach earlier today.

When the event was planned early in December, our Rev. Jo Neary, Dani from The Wobbly Cottage and Jo Robins launched a GoFundMe page to raise money for the Prout Bridge Project.  (You can learn more about the Prout Bridge project in the initial post HERE.)

At the time of publishing they have over doubled their goal of £300 and their total currently stands at £670. What marvellous news.

Well done ladies!

COVID-19

There has been a significant increase in cases of COVID-19 in the last couple of weeks in both BCP Council and Dorset Council areas, as well as a rise in hospital admissions.
If this continues, it is likely our Tier shall change from 2 to the more restrictive Tier 3.  Please stay safe, play your part in stopping the spread of COVID-19 and protect your loved ones.
