Weldmar’s Christmas Tree Recycle Plan Cancelled

STOP PRESS: Double Barrows from Frampton nr. Dorchester has just stepped in to replace the service offered by Weldmar Hospicecare. Details are TBC but they’re hoping to bring their green waste mulcher to Beaminster this Friday 8th Jan, where you can drop your tree off or they can collect from you.
A fee will be charged to cover their costs but a good donation will go to Weldmar Hospice.

On 30th of last month, Weldmar publicised their Christmas Tree Recycling campaign. On Monday 4th January the Prime Minister announced the immediate national lockdown that has come into force to help manage the Covid-19 pandemic.  Sadly, the lockdown means that Weldmar Hospicecare are simply no longer able to continue with the scheme as planned and are left with no other option than to cancel their plans.

They are devastated that they are unable to continue with the scheme this year after what was promising to be their most successful to date. This comes after an extremely challenging year for fundraising events and activities at Weldmar, with them not holding any events or fundraisers such as this since January last year. They are extremely sorry to everyone who supported the scheme and of course will be offering a full refund.

They can offer you two option:

  • Firstly, they would be extremely grateful if you felt that your donation could still be used by their dedicated team at Weldmar Hospicecare to continue providing vital end of life care with compassion, dignity and respect to those who need us right now. They promise to ensure that your support will be invested in the best possible way right here in Dorset. Without any fundraising events or activities and our shops closing once more, your donation truly will make a massive difference.
  • Alternatively, if you feel you are unable to still donate your fee, they completely understand. They will process your refund within the next 7 working days. Please do not contact them as they are currently contacting a large number of supporters and therefore ask that the easiest way for them to process your transaction is to click one of the following options:

COVID Vaccine at Bridport Wednesday, 6th Jan

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE.

The Covid vaccine clinic is still on this week at Bridport Medical Centre: on Wednesday 6 January. This is for patients who had their first vaccine on 16.12.20 . They have not been given enough warning by NHSE to cancel and rebook the clinic.
They will be ensuring future clinics will be arranged with up to 12 weeks between vaccine doses as per the change in guidance from NHS England. As a result they will be contacting those patients already booked in for their second vaccine on 20.1.21 to rearrange.
They will be inviting all patients in their network in the order of priority on the Gov.uk website, so please do not worry if you have not heard anything yet as they have not yet managed to call all of their patients who are over 80.
As you can understand this is a huge task to arrange whilst still continuing with all of their usual work so please bear with them – they endeavour to work hard and efficiently to provide a successful Covid vaccination programme in 2021.
If you are going to have your vaccination at Bridport Medical Centre, taking someone or know someone that is going that might not see this post – Please can you ensure you/they don’t arrive until 5mins before the slot. There has been a few issues with parking which has partly been down to people arriving early to their appointments.

Stay Safe!

Tell Dorset Council Your Thoughts On Their Climate and Ecological Emergency Strategy

Originally published on 17th November, Dorset Council are still looking for people to give them feedback on their plans to tackle climate change.  Responses must be in by Wednesday, 20th January 2021.

Climate and ecological change is the greatest existential threat we have ever faced. The great majority of scientific evidence, built up over many years, shows that the planet is getting warmer and that human activity is the main contributor to this warming.

Their work to help tackle the problem in Dorset is incredibly important. Just sitting by and letting others address this crisis is not an option. We need to work together to overcome this monumental challenge. What we all do – or don’t do – to address this climate and ecological emergency will impact our children, grandchildren and every other generation for centuries to come.

If you haven’t done so already, please take the time to read their strategy and action plan, HERE and then let them know what you think HERE. You don’t have to answer every question and you can save your progress so you can come back later to complete.

Broadwindsor Rainbows, Brownies & Guides Recycle

With more takeaway meals being bought and delivered, there are many more plastic containers accumulating in homes.  Emma House at Broadwindsor’s 1st Rainbows, Brownies & Guides has a request:

In the interest of recycling and reusing, if anyone has any small lidded tubs maybe from the takeaways etc. they would otherwise throw away – I would love to take them off your hands. They will be ideal for putting individual quantities of things in!
Thank you in advance!
Please contact Emma by email: 1stbroadwindsorrainbows@gmail.com to arrange collection/drop off.

Congratulations Rev. Jo, Dani & Jo!

These lovely, brave, some may say crazy ladies confronted the New Year’s Day elements and undertook their planned swim at Lyme Regis beach earlier today.

When the event was planned early in December, our Rev. Jo Neary, Dani from The Wobbly Cottage and Jo Robins launched a GoFundMe page to raise money for the Prout Bridge Project.  (You can learn more about the Prout Bridge project in the initial post HERE.)

At the time of publishing they have over doubled their goal of £300 and their total currently stands at £670. What marvellous news.

Well done ladies!

You can still donate HERE!

Happy New Year!

Most of us will be at our own home as 2020 becomes 2021. Everything continues to be different.

Auld Lang Syne is traditionally sung in the village square where we all come together – this is not possible this year but somewhere, you may be able to hear the celebratory, nostalgic and hopeful tones of Auld Lang Syne being sung.
What does Auld Lang Syne mean? It literally translates as Old Long Since making reference to the “olden days”, particularly with friends.

Written as a poem by Rabbie (Robert) Burns (25 January 1759 – 21 July 1796) in 1788, it was put to the music of an even older folk tune.  The Scottish Bard used the Scottish dialect however here are the lyrics in an English, singable form:

Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne?

Chorus:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

And surely you’ll buy your pint cup!
and surely I’ll buy mine!
And we’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

Chorus:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

We two have run about the hills,
and picked the daisies fine;
But we’ve wandered many a weary foot,
since auld lang syne.

Chorus:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

We two have paddled in the stream,
from morning sun till dine;
But seas between us broad have roared
since auld lang syne.

Chorus:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

And there’s a hand my trusty friend!
And give me a hand o’ thine!
And we’ll take a right good-will draught,
for auld lang syne.

Chorus:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
for the sake of auld lang syne.

Happy New Year Everybody!

Stay Safe!

Weldmar’s Christmas Tree Recycling Scheme

For a fourth year, Weldmar Hospicecare’s Christmas Tree-cycle project returns:

You can book a collection for your real Christmas tree. You must book your collection by the end of Monday. 4th January 2021. In return they suggest a minimum donation of £10.

With not being able to hold any fundraising events this year, Weldmar Hospicecare are hoping that their Christmas Tree-cycle will be bigger than ever, in partnership with Trinity Street Christmas Trees who are making the collections on their behalf and helping to dispose of the trees in an eco-friendly manner.

Local collections will be –

  • Beaminster – Saturday 9th January
  • Bridport – Sunday 10th January

All you need to do to secure a collection is complete the form at the bottom of the page HERE with all of your details and the donation.

Please remember:

  • Real Christmas trees only, no taller than 8ft
  • They could pick up your tree anytime between 8am and 7pm so have it ready to go!
  • Please take all the decorations off your tree and place it outside the front of your house (avoiding blocking any pavements or roads), and where it won’t be necessary for volunteers to need to open gates etc.
  • Place trees outside the day before collection to ‘air’ and reduce the risk of contamination
  • They cannot return to make a later collection if your tree is not ready for collection
