Tree Planting At Broadwindsor Allotments

Sixty tree saplings were planted at Broadwindsor Allotments on Sunday, 13th March 2022 by a very enthusiatic group of 1st Beaminster Beaver Scouts.

The trees were donated to the group by the Woodland Trust as part of the Queen’s Jubilee Green Canopy project, where community groups were invited to plant trees in community spaces across the UK through the Jubilee year, to create a network of individual trees, hedgerows and woodlands in honour of the Queen’s service and the legacy she has built.
This will create a green legacy of its own, with every tree planted bringing benefits for people, wildlife and climate, now and for the future.

The planting was carried out in conjunction with the Broadwindsor Allotment Group and the Broadwindsor Eco-Group, (many thanks to Sheila and Bill of the BAG for their assistance), and also helps the Beavers complete part of their badge work for earning a Community Impact award.

The Beavers not only learned how to plant a tree correctly, but also why native species (dogwood, dog-rose, hawthorn, crab apple and  hazel) are so important to local wildlife.
Some of the Beavers scouts live in Broadwindsor and/or attend Broadwindsor school, so it is lovely that they will be able to see the trees grow over time! 🙂

Even if you haven’t been involved in Scouting before, there is a warm welcome for those wishing to try Scouting for the first time in the 1st Beaminster Scout Group!

Telephone Box Book Exchange Update #3

Once again the village is indebted to Chris Edgerley and his helpers who are restoring the historic phone box in the centre of the village.

They are doing a wonderful job and it will become a great library and book exchange for the use of all residents. Malcolm Heaver will make a purpose built shelving system using all his carpentry skills.

Our again sincere thanks to all the people who have brought this important landmark back to life.

Wendy Shields will manage the library on an ongoing basis.

Last Few Days To Use Scout Post!

Many thanks to everyone in the village who has been using the Scout Post Christmas 2021 service so far which helps raise money for local scout groups.
Kevin and his team at the Broadwindsor Community Stores have been kindly hosting the yellow scout post box, and you now only have a few days left to post your cards. More HERE.

Final collections is on Saturday December 18th at 12 noon.

If you are interested to find out more about Scout Post, or to look at some of the statistics about cards being sent this year, please click HERE

If you are someone who regularly walks around the village anyway, perhaps you may be interested in volunteering to help out with some of the delivery of the Broadwindsor cards for Scout Post 2022?
Some local villages e.g. Stoke Abbott, Netherbury, Burstock didn’t have anyone to deliver cards there this year, so they were not included on the delivery schedule. Perhaps you might be able to volunteer to carry out scout post in those villages next year?
To find out more information about volunteering please get in touch with kirstyamoore@outlook.com.

Scout Post is run by Dorchester & West Dorset District Scout Council
Charity registration no: 1039833

A list of cards they are unable to deliver will be held until the 12th of January and listed on the District Website – click HERE.
