Injured Cat At Kings’ Court

*Cat has been reunited with his owner 🙂

Have you lost your cat? This feline is injured and, at the time of publishing is located at King’s Court.  A member of the public has attempted to pick him/her up without success as it won’t let them approach.

Hopefully, his/her owner will recognise the photo and they’ll be reunited and the cat cared for.

Mother’s Day is on Sunday, 27th March and Richard Childs offers two children friendly recipes this month…

Chocolate Fairy Cakes

For the Cake:

  • 200g butter, softened
  • 200g sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 200g self-raising flour
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 5 tbsp cocoa powder dissolved in 3-4 tbsp. boiling water

For the Butter Cream Icing:

  • 160g butter, softened
  • 320g icing butter
  • 55g cocoa powder, sifted
  • 1-2 tbsp milk white & chocolate buttons

Method:

Pre heat oven 180c/gas mark 4. Line the whole of 2×12  fairy cake tins with paper cases.

In a large bowl cream together the butter & sugar together until the mixture is light & fluffy.
Beat the eggs in one at a time, add a tablespoon of flour if the mixture curdles.
Add the vanilla extract & cocoa mix. Gently fold in the flour until no traces of flour are visible. If mixture is to thick add a little milk. Spoon the mixture into the prepared tins 2/3 full & bake for 15-20 mins or until golden brown on top & springy to touch.
Set aside for 5 mins to cool on wire rack before removing from tin. To make butter cream beat the butter until soft add half the icing sugar & beat till smooth, add remaining icing sugar, cocoa powder & 1 tablespoon of milk & beat until creamy, add more milk if necessary to loosen icing Once the cakes are cool spread butter cream on top & decorate with the chocolate buttons.

It’s Pancake Day! Tuesday, 1st March

The exact date of Shrove Tuesday changes from year to year. But one thing stays the same — it’s always 47 days before Easter Sunday.
In the UK, Ireland, Australia and Canada, Shrove Tuesday has another name –  Pancake Day!

A pancake is a thin, flat cake, made of batter and fried in a frying pan. A traditional English pancake is very thin and is served immediately. Lemon juice and caster sugar, syrup, bananas and other fruits are the usual toppings for pancakes.

Pancakes are being served at the Comrades Hall this morning from 10.30am – 12 noon.
£3 including your cup of tea/coffee 🙂
In aid of St. Andrew’s Church, Burstock.

The ingredients for pancakes are seen to symbolise four points of significance at this time of year:

  • Eggs ~ Creation
  • Flour ~ The staff of life
  • Milk ~ Purity
  • Salt ~ Wholesomeness

To make approximately 8 pancakes you will need:

  • 2 Large eggs
  • 8oz plain flour,
  • 1 pint milk,
  • Pinch of salt.

Mix all the ingredients together and whisk well. (Children can help but it can get messy!) Leave to stand for at least 30 minutes.
Heat a little oil in a frying pan, pour in enough batter to cover the base of the pan and let it cook until the base of the pancake has browned. Then shake the pan to loosen the pancake and flip the pancake over to brown the other side. Serve immediately.

Shrove Tuesday is a Christian festival celebrated in many countries across the globe. It is the traditional feast day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday. This was to remember when Jesus went into the desert for 40 days to fast and pray. Lent is a period of around six weeks leading up to Easter. During Lent, Christians give up rich, tasty foods such as butter, eggs, sugar and fat (some Christians continue to do so). Shrove Tuesday was the last chance to eat them. Shrove is the past tense of the word shrive, which means to present oneself to a priest for confession, penance, and absolution. Anglo-Saxon Christians went to confession and were “shriven” (absolved from their sins). A bell would be rung to call people to confession. This came to be called the “Pancake Bell” and is still rung today.

Lent Lunches: 12.30 – 2pm at the Comrades Hall

Each Thursday from 3rd March – Thursday 7th April
£5
includes soup, bread, cheese pickle, tea and coffee and a warm welcome 🙂

Take Part In Star Count 2022

The New Moon is on Wednesday, 2nd March which means the skies are dark and, when clear, the stars and constellations are much easier to see.

The best way to see how many stars we can all see in the sky is… to count them! We are very fortunate where we live when it comes to light polloution. The Countryside Charity are asking people from all across the country to become ‘citizen scientists’ and look heavenwards for one night. Join in by choosing a clear night from tonight, 26th February to 6th March 2022 and become a stargazer. It’s happening now – don’t miss out!

With brilliant support from the British Astronomical Association, they want you to look up at the constellation Orion and let them know how many stars you can count. Don’t worry: they’re giving you plenty of support on how to do this – click HERE. Once you’ve done your star-spotting, use their simple online form (click HERE) to quickly and easily send them your count – and then they get busy with the number-crunching.

Your results from Star Count will help them make a map of where star-spotters are enjoying deep, dark skies. By showing on a map where light pollution is most serious, they can then work with local councils and others to decide what to do about it.

Better still, Star Count is also a great way to switch off from the distractions of daily life and reconnect with nature. Look up at the cosmos and… breathe 🙂

Sign Up & Submit Your Star Count HERE.

Twosday – 22.02.2022

Today is Tuesday, being called Twosday because of the date.

22.02.2022 is both a palindrome (reads the same forwards and backwards) and a ambigram (on a calculator it reads the same upside down). More twos to be seen at twenty two minutes and 22 seconds past ten this evening: 22:22:22

The date is unqique in that it last happened once before, more than a thousand years ago on 11.01.1011.  There will never be a 33.03.3033 as there is not month with 33 days in it.

The palindome has only happened twice before on 1.11.11 and 11.11.11. The next one will occur in 11 years, as Threesday3.3.33.

In 100 years, there will be a 22.2.22. There will also be the 22.2.2222, but that will fall on a Friday.

Across the world, Twosday is a lighthearted date and one to be celebrated as its next occurrence won’t be until the next millennium.

In numerology, the 222 sequence of numbers are often referred to as Angel Numbers. Also, the number 2 in numerology references the energy of duality, partnership, relationship and balance. The key lessons when dealing with the number 2 are generally centered around compromise, acceptance, compassion, cooperation and harmony.

Today is also World Thinking Day…

Celebrated since 1926, World Thinking Day is a day of international friendship. It is an opportunity to speak out on issues that affect young women and fundraise for 10 million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 150 countries.

Enjoy your day 🙂
