Excellent Progress At Bernards’ Place

The photo shows Chris Edgerley standing next to the beautiful ammonite which has been donated for the wall.  Something else is still required to balance the wall out at the other end.  If anyone has anything appropriate they could donate – please contact David Leader or Chris as soon as possible.

It wasn’t just Chris working this morning – there were many busy and active people working in the sunshine and cold at Bernards’ Place. Lots of digging and more clearing of the guttering and hedges.  They made excellent progress.

Massive thanks to Jamie, Margaret, John, Stefan, Terry and Chris for all their hard work.

There will be another work party in a couple of weeks and David will let everyone know.

Well done everybody!Scroll

2021 Census Officers Sought

The census only happens every 10 years and counts every person and household in England and Wales.  Thousands of people are being hired in a range of exciting temporary roles to make Census 2021 a success.

If you like being out in the community and talking to people, this is the role for you. You will be working alone but with the support of your team of up to 12 Census Officers and team leader. • Monday to Friday, between 4pm to 8pm.
  • Saturdays, between 9am and 8pm.

Fixed Penalty Notice in Force For Irresponsible Dog Owners

The Dorset Council wide Dog related Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) came into force on the 1 January 2021. During that first month Dorset Council focused on advice and guidance to dog-owners explaining the new rules. The new rules were published on this website on 29th December 2020 – click HERE to read or re-read them.

The PSPO places restrictions on dog owners in control of their dogs. These restrictions include clearing up dog fouling and proper disposal of the waste in any open space. On certain land dogs are not allowed on marked sports pitches or enclosed children’s play areas or are required to be on lead, such as in cemeteries, formal gardens etc. There are also dog restrictions on some beaches relating to certain times of the year, see the map below for beach locations.

Dorset CouncilFrom yesterday (February 1st) if the rules are broken, fixed penalty notices (FPN) may be issued by enforcement officers. These can also be served by post if a witness provides details of the dog owner, such as their address, or their vehicle registration number and are willing to provide a suitable witness statement.
The current penalty level is set in legislation as £100 to be paid within 28 days. Early payment, within 14 days, will reduce this to £75.

To read more on the Dog Protection PSPO – click HERE

For more detailed information on where, when and what the restrictions are, if any, at Dorset’s Dog Friendly beaches – please click HERE.

A Request Re: Bernards’ Place

Chris Edgerley is making excellent progress building the wall by the play area in Bernards’ Place.  He is asking if anyone has a large ammonite or anything that could go into the wall as a feature, you will see the picture of the stone carved horse’s head which was donated and has been placed in the wall and is very impressive.

Also. . .

The Treasurer of the Comrades Hall Committee has need of a smart phone to allow him to do his online banking.  If anyone has a redundant one they no longer need and could donate – please get in touch asap. Telephone David Leader on: 01308 868275 or 07867 608652.  Thank you.

Funding for Community Businesses – Deadline Tomorrow

Community businesses in England affected by the Covid-19 crisis can apply for grants of between £10,000 and £20,000 to adapt and evolve to the changing circumstances, and to remain financially viable.

There are no restrictions on the grants; and they can be used to cover core staffing costs, contribute to meeting capital costs of adapting community businesses and ensuring that they can continue to provide the vital support to local people.

The Community Business Renewal Fund welcomes applications from organisations across the community business sector. To be considered for the Community Business Renewal Fund, you will need to demonstrate how you meet each of the following 10 criteria:

    1. Operating within England at a local / neighbourhood level.
    2. Meet the four key features of a community business: locally rooted, accountable to the local community, trading for the benefit of the local community and has a broad community impact.
    3. An established organisation with a track record of trading.
    4. An incorporated organisation.
    5. In a stable financial position with good prospects of viability for the future.
    6. Charitable purpose.
    7. For public benefit.
    8. Your organisation would benefit from a grant of up to £20,000.
    9. Able to spend the funds within 12 months.
    10. Subsidy control.

However, applications will be prioritised from organisations that are:
• Operating in a community that has been hardest hit by Covid-19
• Increasing diversity in the community business sector
• Supporting the growth and impact of the community business sector as a whole

There is a very short applications window as high demand is anticipated. The fund will open for applications from 10am on the 12th January 2021 until 4pm on the 19th January 2021.

Read all the guidance notes and apply HERE.

The next round for applications will be opening at 10am on Tuesday 2 March – closing at 4pm on Tuesday 9 March.
