The objectives of celebrating an International Men’s Day are set out in ‘All the Six Pillars of International Men’s Day’…

The Six Objectives of  International Men’s Day are:

This includes everyday men who live honest, decent lives, not just sports stars and movie stars.
  2. Celebrating men’s positive contributions
This includes men’s contributions to society, family, community, marriage, child care, and the environment.
  3. Focusing on men’s health and wellbeing
This includes men’s social, emotional, physical, and spiritual health and wellbeing.
  4. Highlighting discrimination against men
This includes discrimination in social services, law, and social attitudes and expectations.
  5. Improving gender relations and promoting gender equality
This includes promoting gender equality for both men and women.
  6. Creating a safer, better world
This includes creating a world where people can be safe and reach their full potential.

Visit the website HERE. Sign up to receive their newsletter HERE.

November is also Movember… The leading charity changing the face of men’s health: addressing mental health and suicide issues, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.
Movember first started in Melbourne, Australia in 2003 when two friends (Travis Garone and Luke Slattery) talked 30 of  their friends into growing a ‘Mo’ (moustache). They had been inspired by a friend’s mother who was fundraising for breast cancer, they decided to make the campaign about men’s health and prostate cancer.
By 2007, the campaign had grown internationally including the UK campaign with The Prostate Cancer Charity. There are now official campaigns in 21 countries around the world 🙂

(Running time: 1hr 57mins)

AMERICAN FICTION is Cord Jefferson’s hilarious directorial debut, which confronts our culture’s obsession with reducing people to outrageous stereotypes. Jeffrey Wright stars as Monk, a frustrated novelist who’s fed up with the establishment profiJng from “Black” entertainment that relies on Jred and offensive tropes. To prove his point, Monk uses a pen name to write an outlandish “Black” book of his own, a book that propels him to the heart of hypocrisy and the madness.

Social Prescribing Alongside FareShare – Friday, 11th October

On Friday 11th October, the Jurassic Coast Social Prescribing team will be at Drimpton Village Hall between 9 and 11am to talk about any non-clinical wellbeing issues you may be experiencing.

At its most basic, social prescribing offers the kind of help that doesn’t come in a tube or bottle (non medical). Instead, a ‘social prescribing link worker’ will work with you to provide support, help and information that will enable you to access services or activities that may improve your health, wellbeing and overall enjoyment in life.

SOME OF THE AREAS THEY CAN SUPPORT YOU WITH:

  • Carer Support
  • Housing related queries
  • Welfare benefits & debt advice
  • Help with daily living tasks
  • Making lifestyle changes
  • Combating isolation/loneliness
  • Living with anxiety/depression
  • Bereavement support
  • Frequent attendance GP or A&E

Come along for a coffee and a chat with the team.

Note: This will be alongside FareShare operating that morning but your privacy will be maintained.

The team work across Bridport, Beaminster and Lyme Regis and attend each practice at least twice a week. The team can see patients at their medical surgery, at home or via a telephone or video call.

You can contact the Social Prescribing Link Worker by telephoning: 01308 428943 or 07467 549715.
