Broadwindsor’s Talent Showcase

There was standing room only on Sunday, 19th June when the following artists took to the Comrades Hall stage and delivered an afternoon of wonderful entertainment in the Broadwindsor Fun Group project ‘Broadwindsor’s Got Talent 2023‘.

Chrissie Miller, president of the W.I. acted as MC for the event. It began with a story from Ali about chocolate cake…

The W.I. then presented ‘The Three Ages of Women‘…

The first half closed with the children from Broadwindsor School...

The second half opened with ‘A Charming Affair‘ performed by Camille, Rita, Izzy & John…

Scarecrows Out Tonight Please

The bunting is going up in and around Bernards’ Place ready for Sunday’s Fun Day 🙂

For those who have entered the competition, please put your Wartime Farming Scarecrows out this evening (Friday) ready for judging over the weekend.  Maps of entries will be available from Broadwindsor Community Stores and The White Lion on Saturday & Sunday.

Broadwindsor’s Fun Day kicks off at midday with the Children’s Fancy Dress (optional) parade from Broadwindsor Primary School, through the square, up to the Comrades Hall and down into Bernards’ Place.  Those in fancy dress will be judged and awarded their prize at the prize giving at 5.30pm.

  • Holly from Strawberry Jam will be there to entertain the younger ones,
  • the BBQ and Bar open at 1pm,
  • the live music starts at 2pm from Nina Garcia and continues until 6.30pm with Bridport Broadsides Shanty Crew
    (There will be an interval at approximately 5.30pm to award prizes and draw the Hamper raffle)
  • At 7pm…


Enjoy a fantastic evening of fun and frolics with Ceilidh’s Comet, who specialise in playing traditional barn dance music from the UK and Europe, creating a lively, friendly, fun atmosphere and a wonderful way to end this year’s Fun Day 🙂 A bar will be available.
All tickets are £5, (no concessions) available from Broadwindsor Community Stores and the White Lion.

Get Thinking About Your Wartime Farming Scarecrow!

The photograph is of Broadwindsor Fun Group 2022’s Platinum Jubilee winners, Mark & his son James who have held the winner’s Cup for the last three years!

Inspired by the village’s new war memorial, another Fun Group initiative, the theme of this year’s Scarecrow competition is ‘Wartime Farming Life‘.

It is only £1 to enter and forms can be picked up from our village shop, Broadwindsor Community Stores, The White Lion Community pub or may be downloaded HERE.

Please return your completed form to the box provided in the village shop or electronically by email to bwfunday20@gmail.com no later than Tuesday, 20th June.
A map showing the location of all the scarecrows will be produced & made available so they can be judged for the competition & enjoyed by everyone.
Please have your scarecrows in place by 5pm on Friday 23rd June.
Prizes will be announced and awarded in the late afternoon of Broadwindsor’s Fun Day, Sunday, 25th June 🙂

** This competition, Broadwindsor Fun Day together with other activities and entertainment are run by Broadwindsor Fun Group – a committee of four, of which three will not be continuing 🙁

Broadwindsor Fun Day – Sunday, 25th June

The theme of this year’s Scarecrow competition is ‘Wartime Farming Life‘. It’s only £1 to enter and forms can be picked up from our village shop, Broadwindsor Community Stores, The White Lion Community pub or may be downloaded HERE.

Here is what to expect from midday on Sunday, 25th June…

  • 12 noon: Childrens’ Fancy Dress Parade
  • 12.15pm: Welcome & Opening
  • 12.25pm: W.I. Refreshments until 2/2.30pm
  • 12.25pm: Stalls & Games open until 4pm
  • 12.30pm: Strawberry Jam – Children’s Entertainer
  • 1pm: Bar opens
  • 1pm: BBQ opens until 5.30pm (or sold out)

Final Draft For Parish War Memorial

Broadwindsor’s War Memorial, inspired by village resident Adrian Gray and led by Councillor Andrew Frampton is almost complete…The main photo shows the final draft and the printers need 3 weeks to complete it.

There will be a QR code on the memorial which will enable people to find relations of fallen soldiers so we can then tell their stories on the parish council designated web page.

Broadwindsor Fun Group and village allotment champion, Bob Link will be planting many poppy seeds around the stone.
The official opening will be in June. A short ceremony will be held involving the three Armed Forces, the children from the primary school who will read the names of the fallen out loud before a bugler will play the last post and a 2 minute silence observed lead by Rev David Baldwin from 11 am on June 6th (D day).

Councillor Frampton stated “A generous donation of £250 from the Decloedt family in Belgium (the family of the spitfire pilot killed at Lewesdon hill) and £100 from the Broadwindsor Fun Group goes to funding 3/4 of the project.
“Villagers, relatives and locals are most welcome to attend the opening. The eagle eyed amongst you will notice a QR code on the memorial board. This will take you to a page on the Broadwindsor Parish council website and contain pictures,stories and backgrounds of some of the fallen soldiers . If you or any villagers have relations or indeed info on any soldiers on the memorial please send your info in so it can be stored on the web page for future generations to read about.
The year sixes at Broadwindsor Primary school will be using this story and the soldiers for a project next term and researching some of the men who are remembered .

Invitations have already been emailed to the Chairs of various local groups and individuals who expressed an interest of involvement via the questionnaires sent out in January.

Sunday, 25th June.

Open to the public at 12 noon.

There will be a Helper’s meeting from 3-5pm this Sunday, 16th in the Lewesdon room at the Comrades Hall. Teas/coffees will be available.

The Fun Day is a village wide initiative, and only with your help and/or support, there will be the favourite games and stalls, music is already booked for the afternoon and evening.

The Core committee are four and would welcome a couple of more members to join us but Sunday’s meeting is for the Fun Day plans and what we can all do working together and supporting each other. They do need your help to make it a successful village event.

Broadwindsor Fun Group’s Talent Show – Sunday, 11th June

Showcasing the talent that lies within our village, as the programme is filling up and coming together, this is the last call to anyone who would like to take part but hasn’t contacted the Fun Group yet.

The event takes place 5 – 7pm on Sunday, 11th June at The Comrades Hall with a rehearsal planned for Sunday, 21st May at 12.30pm.

Talent is not restricted to performances of song, music and comedy – visual artists are also invited to be included in a display of their artwork.
