Last Few Days To Use Scout Post!

Many thanks to everyone in the village who has been using the Scout Post Christmas 2021 service so far which helps raise money for local scout groups.
Kevin and his team at the Broadwindsor Community Stores have been kindly hosting the yellow scout post box, and you now only have a few days left to post your cards. More HERE.

Final collections is on Saturday December 18th at 12 noon.

If you are interested to find out more about Scout Post, or to look at some of the statistics about cards being sent this year, please click HERE

If you are someone who regularly walks around the village anyway, perhaps you may be interested in volunteering to help out with some of the delivery of the Broadwindsor cards for Scout Post 2022?
Some local villages e.g. Stoke Abbott, Netherbury, Burstock didn’t have anyone to deliver cards there this year, so they were not included on the delivery schedule. Perhaps you might be able to volunteer to carry out scout post in those villages next year?
To find out more information about volunteering please get in touch with kirstyamoore@outlook.com.

Scout Post is run by Dorchester & West Dorset District Scout Council
Charity registration no: 1039833

A list of cards they are unable to deliver will be held until the 12th of January and listed on the District Website – click HERE.

Covid-19 Update From Dorset Council

Although there were no PCR tests available in the whole of England today, Dorset Council have released the following information following the Prime Minister’s announcement late Sunday, 12th December:
The Dorset health and care system is pulling out all the stops to expand the vaccination programme as quickly as possible following the Prime Minister’s announcement late Sunday.
System leaders are asking local people to be patient while they get everything in place as the NHS continues to deliver the largest vaccination programme in our history.
The COVID-19 vaccination roll-out is being coordinated and delivered by the NHS in Dorset working closely with partners including councils and the voluntary and community sector.
Dr. Andy Rutland, Dorset GP & Clinical lead for the Dorset COVID-19 vaccination programme said:

This is a monumental effort as we step up even further to expand the vaccination programme for everyone who’s eligible.
We know that some people have had issues with booking their booster at a local venue and we’re working hard to keep increasing availability.  Please be patient and do keep checking the national booking system as slots are being added all the time.
We’re all in this together and we owe a huge thank you to everyone supporting the roll-out – staff, volunteers and the public.  It’s been a tough year for all of us so please continue to be kind, patient and understanding to our vaccine teams who are working tirelessly to make this happen.
Dr. Rutland also made a renewed appeal for potential vaccinators to come forward to join their vaccination teams as the programme continues to expand at speed.

Sam Crowe, Director of Public Health for Dorset Council and Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole Council said:

With the emergence of the Omicron variant alongside existing high infection rates locally, it’s more important than ever that we all continue to play our part in protecting ourselves and each other from the risks of COVID-19.  We are working closely with the NHS to support the expansion of the booster programme, and getting your booster is the best way to protect yourself from serious illness caused by any variant of COVID-19, so I urge everyone to get yours as soon as you can.
“Nationally, we can see that Omnicron is spreading quickly, and whilst there are still a lot of unknowns about this variant, the principles to help us reduce transmission remain the same.  Vaccination alone will not stop the virus from spreading, so to be able to live safely with COVID-19, we do need to keep taking these precautionary measures.
“This includes taking regular rapid tests to check you’re not infectious, particularly before meeting others or attending gatherings, make sure you have plenty of ventilation, and wearing a face covering in indoor, crowded spaces.  If we all follow these measures now and get boosted as soon as ossible, we can hopefully prevent the need for further restrictions and keep doing the things we all enjoy

There are several ways to get your booster jab:

  • The best way to get your vaccination at a time and place that suits you is to book ahead
  • You can either wait for your GP practice to contact you or book via the national booking service (NBS) to get your booster at a larger centre or pharmacy
  • Local GP-led vaccine services are offering the vaccine to the most vulnerable, so that they are invited to get their booster first
  • We are now running two vaccination centres in Dorset – Vespasian House, Dorchester and King’s Park Hospital, Bournemouth. They have appointment slots for both children and adults
  • Both centres are very busy and walk-in availability is very limited – please make an appointment using the National Booking System.
  • You can also get your vaccination at many pharmacies. There are now more than 30 sites in Dorset offering vaccinations – Click HERE to find them.

It’s busy – keep trying, be patient and be kind

  • There continues to be very high demand for boosters as the number of eligible people increases
  • Although some people have had difficulties booking their booster appointments, NHS staff are working extremely hard to support local communities and increase availability so please be patient. Please show them the respect and kindness they deserve. You will still have good levels of immunity if you receive the booster a little later.
  • Vaccination centres are very busy. If a local venue isn’t showing on the system, it may be full – please check again later as appointments are being added all the time.

More locally, Mike Hewitson at Beaminster pharmacy posts regular updates if and when any walk-in clinics become available – follow Beaminster Pharmacy on Facebook – HERE.

Broadwindsor Fun Group’s Party Gets The Go Ahead

Dear Broadwindsor residents,

I write to confirm that the party planned for next Saturday, 18th December to raise funds for the Jubilee Fun Day, IS GOING AHEAD.

When planning the event we had given much thought to any risks regarding Covid and it is due to that consideration, we are able to still to do so. Naturally all Government rules will be followed. The numbers of tickets have been restricted to around 50% of the hall capacity so space should not be an issue. We will have hand sanitizer at the door and ask that everyone uses it please. Similarly we would ask that attendees compete a lateral flow test before arriving. Masks should be worn when moving around and whilst not strictly required whilst dancing, wearing is encouraged.

Thanks to those who are supporting the event, we certainly need something festive in the run up to Christmas!

I hope to see you there, some tickets are still available from the village shop.

Festive Regards,

Adrian
Chair BFG.

Save Our Pub Gig Postponed & New Rules At Comrades Hall

The Steering Group had organised a FUNdraising gig for The White Lion, Broadwindsor on Saturday, 15th January, 2022

Below is the content of an email sent out to all hirers of the Comrades Hall. Consequentially, the event has been postponed.

QUOTE:

This is a general email to all hirers to give you information regarding the latest changes in Covid regulations as announced by the government on Wednesday, and how it may affect your use of Comrades Hall.
At the present time, Comrades Hall remains open for use.

From FRIDAY 10th DECEMBER:

Comrades Hall is considered an ‘indoor public space’ and therefore mask wearing should be mandatory inside the premises. This applies to any users of Comrades Hall over the age of 11, except for those who are exempt, or where a separate risk assessment/ group association policy is in place for youth organisations.

However, where hirers and their users are sitting down to eat or drink, or carrying out exercise, then masks do not need to be worn. In these circumstances, participants should put their masks back on once they are able to do so, and when moving around within the premises. Please ensure you as the hirer explain this to your participants should your use of the hall include this option.
More information can be found here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-54373904

Due to the small capacity of Comrades Hall events, currently no covid vaccine passport would need to be shown for any event or hire, but it would be good practice to ask your participants to take an LFT before attending an event at the hall.

All other information remains as per my previous email and according to https://www.gov.uk/guidance/covid-19-coronavirus-restrictions-what-you-can-and-cannot-do

**COVID Vaccine Availability**

Mike Hewitson  from Beaminster pharmacy has just released the following information:

I have just uploaded another 500 appointments for an additional clinic next Thursday. You can book these via 119 or nhs.uk website.
Our team of vaccinators and volunteers are giving up their precious time before Christmas so that you can enjoy yours, I respectfully ask that if you book one of these appointments you don’t try and get a walk-in vaccination elsewhere. We saw approximately 60 of today’s appointments didn’t turn up (which allowed us to provide some walk-in availability).
Thanks,
Mike & Team

Thank you & your marvellous team Mike!
